I love nursing. But here-hate my job. HATE IT. No one is happy. Every shift people are standing around complaining about their assignments. It is very clickish. Don't report anything, NO confidentiality and when it hits the floor you are gang attacked from CNAs up into management. You are considered a troublemaker.  Then it hits social media especially snapchat, and the bullies have a hayday. There is one who is horrible about posting such things to snapchat sometimes facebook, almost on a daily basis, but can't say anything since this person is in management. And a bully himself. Best to not say anything at all or will be on the doodoo list.  Once there the treatment is horrible, especially if you complained on the unit managers pets. She will make your life horrible. Have seen it to many times. Plus she states that turning in complaints to corporate will be a waste of time since many are her friends and will believe her over anyone. Need to watch her she is a snake in the grass. But if you kiss her butt, all will be fine. Everything there is just stressful from the workload to the computers not working. From staff negativity to bullying. To difficulty having working equipment (computers, beds, call lights,etc) to running out of supplies.  Another thing that adds stress is that there are to many family members that work together especially nurses who have daughters that are CNAs. OMG, if the CNA doesn't like her assignment, or what her floor supervisor tells her, she runs to mommy. There have been words over this. And one CNA has a mother who is in management, it was rumored that the mother called a nurse over her daughter's assignment or something. And there were some heated words exchanged over the phone.  Everyone is now like "better give that CNA whatever assignment she wants or she will call her mother on you". Having nurses with their young adult daughters working as CNAs is a disaster! I had hope that when the new administrator started that things may turn around. But it pretty much stayed the same.  I am not real sure who the administrator is. I don't think there was even a meeting introducing her to staff.  The language there is horrible. The F-bomb gets thrown around like confetti!!  I am not kidding you, it seems like it is a favorite word of about 3 in management. But in general the language is horrible facility wide. There is so much I could post here. I guess I am a little down and out and venting some. However, I do have some hope, a little glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. It is rumored a house cleaning is taking place. There is a corporate nurse manager there and changes have already been made. A couple of management people are no longer in their positions. One had been terminated and there are others being watched. Per unit manager no one is safe in the nursing department and some others maybe stripped of their positions or terminated. But regardless, I can already see a difference. It is still stressful and the whiners still whine about their jobs, staff still complain and whine for about 30-45 minutes every morning about their assignments, smokers still take a break right after getting shift report (CNAs and Nurses). They go out back on the porch to smoke, have someone watch for management so they can get back in. Sometimes there isn't even a nurse on the floor cause they are smoking!  But anyhow, I see the difference and hope things will get turned around. The facility didn't get this way over night and can only change a few things at a time. Gonna stay a bit longer to see how things play out and see if any of the rumors pan out. 

I was very excited to start a Kissito in Bland. I had heard excellent things. How stupid I felt when I  found out I was just a dollar sign for a recurrent bonus. The environment in the nursing department is TOXIC. There are clicks between the management staff, floor nurses and CNAs. New employers are treated like the plague. Long term nursing staff are right down mean to new folks and talk about them like trash. "Best Friends" or as one nurse calls her bestie "my work wife" trash each other behind each other's backs.  There is strife between day shift and night shift, not only do they talk about each other at the facility, they take their issues to social media. That act in itself causes more friction between the 2 shifts and employees. The DON tries to please everyone and the scheduling is horrible. I can't tell you how many times I have been asked to cover a shift with promises of a bonus, then to find out that "corporate" would not approve. Don't promise a bonus and not deliver. Management will not listen to suggestions for improvement. If you have a ligit complaint or report something that is concerning, everything gets swept under the rug. Nothing is taken seriously. AND if you do report something, nothing is confidential, so the best thing is to go to work, keep you mouth shut, do you job and go home. But hey keep you ears open because you will over hear lots of interesting stuff from your co-workers and residents. Residents know more about what is going on in the facility than staff do. Amazing what I have found out from the residents, stuff they should never ever know. The one good thing about working day shift, is you hardly have any admissions. The admissions coordinator has all admissions coming in after 5, that is a plus. So in summary, if you are part of the "click" your life will be good at the facility. If not, then good luck to you. Luckily I will be going back to where I came from prior to my recruitment, should have never ever left in the first place!

A typical day at the Brian Center of Alleghany? 
I faced several challenges that significantly impacted both staff morale and the quality of resident care.
The hardest part of the job? 
 The facility often operated short-staffed, making it difficult to provide residents with the attention they needed. Despite this, management frequently cut staff when census was low, even when the remaining team was overwhelmed. Concerns raised by staff were frequently dismissed or met with hostility. I personally experienced this when I expressed that I would not tolerate being spoken to disrespectfully, only to have an administrator instruct someone to "clock her out because I don't want to deal with her." There was also a noticeable lack of accountability among some coworkers, and instead of addressing these issues, management often told others to simply pick up the slack. Favoritism was apparent, with gift cards and recognition given selectively (e.g., one staff member receiving a gift card for having a baby while others in similar situations did not).
Overall, the lack of support, professionalism, and fairness led me to the conclusion that I would be better off seeking employment in an environment more conducive to both staff well-being and quality patient care. 

My work in marketing was extremely meaningful at Kissito - this is by far the best work I've found to do for a company, especially on their international side. I learned so much about the field of marketing and public relations, and about nonprofit work, especially during the time I was in Africa. It was life-changing and I had one manager, Josh McGilliard, who I adored (still do). However, other management can be difficult to work under, especially the president himself who basically thinks there's something wrong with you if you're not just like him. He fooled me with his initial charm and charisma, but in reality, he was very assuming, had not just high expectations but ridiculous expectations that set his people up for failure, and functioned somewhere else outside of reality. This made for a lot of conflict - and I know for a fact that I was not the only one left frustrated, burned out, offended, and flat out angry due to his management style. The company's core values of integrity, passion, excellence, and respect would be great if he followed them. The only one of them he has is passion. He cares about his business, but not about people. He was the most difficult part of my two years there, in addition to the lady in HR at corporate - total thorn in my side.

Everytime you walk down the halls of this “wonderful” organization, all you hear is griping and complaining about how someone’s always annoyed that a few certain people are always hitting their call light. They’re always complaining. The residents can’t help it if they’re not comfortable. They can’t help it if they had to wait so long to get taken to the bathroom they go on themselves. 
I’ve been employed long enough to think I should be entitled to knowing when things are supposed to be happening that I’m supposed to be a part of. 
Needless to say I’m honestly disappointed in how the RN’s especially handle themselves. They’re always cocky and never really want to help anyone. They always just sit at their desks and are either on the computer or talking amongst themselves. 
In no way am I saying these ladies are bad people, their minds are just in the wrong places. I started out loving my job, loving coming to work and being able to see and meet new people. But now, I’d rather just stay home.

At the beginning of my career at Kissito it was great! Everyone helping everyone. After working awhile I began to notice the drama between some of the cna. The scheduler at the time was the ADON made sure schedules was covered for the residents. She was good to work with you around your school schedules. 
I notice that a couple of the  aides would leave to get them some lunch but wouldn’t clock out until they got back from getting their food so they took a longer lunch than other employees. Was reposted to ADON nothing done. 
It was like some of the other cna could get by not doing their job. Administrator was very nice. Sometimes I don’t think she was aware what was going on with some of the cna leaving  and not clocking out for their lunch until they were back from picking up their food. 
I think if the ADON was changed that would improve a lot of the turn over at the facility. After being at a company over 20 years a person knows how to manipulate people and the ones that was her pets got by with a lot that other cna would of definitely written up for.

I have worked for contract companies before in therapy and this is not a contract company this is in house; which I can say this company will make you feel appreciated and valued being an in house company. They make you feel wanted and needed ; that in itself is really all you can ask for in a company! Kissito is also a great company to move up in as well. Kissito is 10/10 the best company to work for! 

I worked in the Rehab department with a close knit crew of the most caring, compassionate and supportive staff. We’d start our day catching up on each other’s frame of mind, Pt status and logistical issues. We’d hit the floor ready to assist one another and others in interdisciplinary teams. My Director of Rehab was always easy to approach did everything within her control to make our day run smoothly and was always accommodating to time off. Our crew in turn would do anything for her. Upper management was fair not quite as accessible but very human. The Administrator frequently became a order cook making omelettes or burgers for staff. He would carry trays to patients rooms and always willing to help on the floor . The hardest part of my job was the documentation and the easiest was building relationships with patients and staff.

Caring for and creating a bond with the patients 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Upper management does not acknowledge the hard work the staff puts in. Especially the CNA's. Always short staffed

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It could be sometimes hostile. High-school like tendencies from staff members. Always drama going on at this facility 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Come into work for a 16 hour shift after being begged to do so and told you would work a certain floor/assignment then being moved to a floor you never worked before only to have a mess/undone work left from the shift before. Being told that it doesn't matter what floor you were promised because you go where your needed and if you don't like it you can be replaced

I was searching for an organization that would allow me some entrepreneurial autonomy yet give me some supportive structure. I also wanted an organization who understood what it meant to have integrity about living it's mission. Kissito delivers this opportunity each and everyday. From its work with the elderly to its clinics in Africa, Kissito is not afraid of change for the betterment of the people they serve. If you don't do well with fast paced ever-changing work environments and serious accountability for life saving results, steer clear. But if that sounds like a challenge you are up for, and it will be a challenge, then look seriously at Kissito long twrm.
