I had a great experience overall during my hospitality management internship with Kitty Hawk Kites. It was a really unique environment where I was able to gain hands-on experience in customer service, operations, and daily management within a fast paced setting.

The team was welcoming and supportive, and I appreciated the opportunity to take on real responsibilities rather than just observing. I was able to build confidence interacting with customers and learned a lot about handling high volume situations, especially during peak times.

One of the highlights was getting exposure to different aspects of the business, which gave me a better understanding of how hospitality and recreation operations run together. It was also a fun and energetic place to work, especially being in such a popular tourist area.

At times, things could feel a bit hectic and there were moments where more structure or communication would have been helpful, but overall it was a valuable learning experience that helped me grow both professionally and personally.

I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a hands on internship in a dynamic hospitality setting.

I worked in the reservations, mostly at the call center, especially until I got comfortable hearing my own voice. I even had a panic attack twice! Mgmt were absolutely supportive and attentive, but also made me get back on that proverbial bike and try again. It made ALL the difference. I overheard one of them training a new gal and told her to listen to how great I connect naturally on the phone! So they DO give you tools to become your absolute best! I have ZERO complaints about the staffing there. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
There’s no good parts. The company runs in a very old school way. There’s no confidentiality. Everyone knows everything and a lot of the information and gossip comes from the HR office lady. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The long hours and the low wages. The owner expects the company staff to work 6 days a week and pays extremely low wages. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic. The culture is that of a company who trash talks staff to other staff and expects high level functionality regardless. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Organizing the store(s), merchandising the products, scheduling staff (often times we’re under staffed and expected to work extra as a salaried employee to cover), etc

This was my first job and I was 17 years old. I started at $9/hr. After about a week or two of working, I was promoted to being a key holder/opener and closer of the store, which involved cleaning the store and balancing the cash register every day (i.e. counting all the bills and coins) and then depositing cash at the bank. I learned how to work quickly under high pressure/busy situations. I also learned how to balance my work responsibilities and my school responsibilities. The best part of working here was the valuable customer service skills and being personable with customers. The hardest part of the job was working alone.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Understaffed, unprofessional leadership

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Understaffed, and constant stocking and emphasis should be on customers when it isn’t.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stocking constantly and lots of pressure to get stock out on shelves and customers are left floundering around the store. That is the reason for poor sales and loads of shoplifting.

You'll work 9+ hour days, 6 days a week, & get paid for 40. Don't expect anything else. Don't tell any co-workers or higher-ups anything that isn't totally necessary - the gossip never ends. There is transparency where there shouldn't be, and a lack of transparency where there should be - Example, no pay listed for any of KHK's job postings. It's a fine job for just the summer, but don't get roped in. If you "stay for the winter", you won't be paid, even as a salaried employee, for a couple months while they completely shut certain locations down.

Very out of touch company. They want to keep everything how it was when the company started. Make a suggestion to change something and they shut down. From April to November you will not get time off so don’t ask. The people they ship here frequently m other countries are the only ones who get time off.  Management tells a lot and accuses people of everything, but don’t take responsibility for the actions of themselves. 
Pay is low for the work and hours you put in. 
Do yourself a favor and do not go here for a job! 

It's the middle of Covid, it's tough to get customers. I created a new efficient menu. Restaurant employees not included in interoffice contests. No room for growth. Bonus awarded for being open ten months March to January 1st, but zero bonus for being open January 1st to December 5th. 

The typical day at work consisted of the a few different daily tasks as well as some that were on specific days of the week. A lot of the work was repetitive, but other employees made it enjoyable. I was always busy which made the days fly by. It was a great job, and I learned a lot that will be helpful for the future.

so i worked in the top of the summer and i worked in the back of the store unloading trucks and opening boxes and stocking shelves but it was a non air conditioned back room with one box fan where temps hit the 90s every day. it took a month for my first paycheck to come in so i had worked almost 80 hours before getting paid. corporate offices are incompetent but i had fun with my fellow employees because we were so overworked and so underpaid
