First off, can this be a successful position? Yes, BUT it is pretty much up to you and your effort. If you don't have drive, motivation, and self-discipline, the odds are you are going to fail at this position. You will be given somewhere between 400-800 members, but you probably won't be able to touch about 35% of them because they won't qualify to buy anything from you. You will need to recruit new members to keep your business going meaning they are going to have to be over 18, male, and Catholic to join. Expect mostly evening appointments, and you'll be driving to their home. Depending on how your territory looks like, you could be driving 15 minutes to over an hour away to see someone. Products aren't bad, but are very limited in this day of age especially if clients want to do investing. You will not get paid for service work (update banking information, beneficiary changes, loans, etc) but you are expected to meet with people and do the work as their home office doesn't have the means to do so over the phone or with technology. You will probably work out of your home unless you are close enough to the General Agent's office. NO SALARY. You start on a draw which you are expected to pay back, or the GA is on the hook for it. After that, straight commissions. You can get an expense allowance, but only on life sales and as long as you are 'on pace' for benefits. If you can't stay on pace, you lose anything extra you were supposed to make. You won't be the first agent clients have seen, and they will remind you of that over and over again.Most of the membership is also more concerned about fraternal activities and not what you really offer to the Order. Until leadership puts the business first, it will always be second class to those activities. Calls to the home office for help can take anywhere from 10-30 minutes and sometimes you get different answers each time. A good General Agent will help you and train you, but if he is swamped with other things it will probably be up to you especially after your first 90 days. Be sure to ask 'what happened to the last agent in this area?' because odds are your replacing a person that had all the same issues before you and quit.

A typical day of work begging when: You have to wakeup at 5:00 a.m. every morning to start verifying your e-mails because you have to send an inform of how many visits you do have being doing during the last past week, sales and visits to council and members of the organization. 
Then you have to do like 30 to 40 phone calls to make a coordination of visit for new candidates and existing member for service during the current week. 
Then you have to go to visit the member of your appointment of that same day to try to do a sale of the instrument that the organization offer. At least 3 to 4 visits a day.
 At the end of the day you have to scan all the policies and send them to home office in New Heaven, Connecticut. during that same night and study online the different classes that they give in the organization network university.
 And you have to plan and organize visits to different church, council and Catholics movement organization to see how can you activate futures candidates to be part of the organization or gate related to it.
 Participate in every mass in different towns of your assigned counties or districts. 
You are most of the time alone driving and speaking by telephone; have to be every organized;
 The structure of the company have to go by the channels of command most of the time. They have many departments so you have to continue calling for follow up of the information that you summit and requirement of each policies.
 They can cancel any policies for many reasons, even when you bring all the correct information. 
The most enjoyable part is when you really show the people how many things the organization do without doing any publicity in the public marketing system.

A typical day at work for me involves shipping approximately 250 packages, mostly going domestically or to Canada, with some packages going to the Philippines, Caribbean countries Europe and Guam. I have learned a great deal about the shipping industry, including what changes costs of shipping and time of delivery. My supervisor is a very hands on individual, almost to the point of being a hindrance. He is knowledgeable about the items and information being shipped but not very knowledgeable about carriers and the daily operations of the department. The majority of my co-workers are unmotivated and disorganized. They take a very careless view to their daily work and production suffers on occasion as a result. There are a few co-workers who take their job seriously and perform well on a daily basis. The most difficult aspect of my job is deciding between FedEx ground and USPS in domestic shipping. I've learned that price jumps for the USPS when you get south of Washington D.C. and west of Ohio. The most enjoyable aspect of my job is knowing that I am helping families financially while they are going through a very tough personal time and that I am helping people to celebrate what they believe in and share it with other people.

Typical day might be 10+ hours with zero pay frequently resulting from efforts. Management uses bullying tactics and only negative reinforcement. Management repeats the same stale ideas over & over again. Management forces only online calls, but then claims you should be selling more than in normal non-covid times! Other members of the agency are completely unwilling to help others. This is partially because they don't have extra time, but also the most successful agents are selfish jerks who only care for themselves. Hardest part of the job is working 50-60 hour weeks without any compensation at times! Most enjoyable part is talking to the clients and figuring out how to help them financially. Because of the high premiums to the products, typically clients cannot afford them and do not buy from you.

The good? Make your own schedule. 
The bad? Software in the computers is terrible. And they take over $60 per paycheck as a technology fee. 
Poor management. They’re hot then cold. No proper training. On your own. Your market is limited to Catholic males and their families. 
Cannot sell to women over 18 if they’re not married to a Catholic man. 
You have to drive A LOT. You cold call everyone in your system. Some of them aren’t even Catholic any more and don’t really care about the Knights. A lot of the listed members are long-dead or have no good information for you to follow up on. You have to recruit new members yourself if you want new leads. Yes you have to pay for your own marketing materials. Yes you set up these events yourself. 
No base salary at all. Generally speaking you only make about 57% of a policy’s first year premiums. You’d have to sell A LOT if you want to make enough money to survive. This company will die with its rapidly-aging membership unless they change something soon. 

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternity that was created 150 years ago to support the widows and orphans of Catholic gentlemen. Since then it has exploded into a world wide organization that supports anyone in need. The brother knights at the lowest levels of the volunteer organization work together to create programs that bring in money to support the needy in the surrounding communities. The upper levels of management are paid positions, and like many organizations are devoid of understanding of what is happening at the lower levels. Even with this rift in the volunteer and paid portions of the Knights, the focus remains on helping the needy and keeps new volunteers coming on board to help. With that said, it is a wonderful organization with wonderful people supporting the needs of God's world.

Ability to be connected to clients of the Catholic faith and knowing you can assist them in their current and future individual and family needs and financial growth, in a Catholic manner 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Present Economic condition impeding clients, as well as the company's inability to provide specific hands on training. And no company benefits. Company is all about SALES. SALES. AND SALES and rather less concerned about assisting clients with important everyday issues and concerns.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Dynamic work environment if you can work on your own with little support.  No company culture. Could not even afford to provide an office to allow fellow agents to work out of and discuss day to day matters. Agents had to vent for themselves  with little support

I loved working for the Knights of Columbus. I was always on time willing to take extra shifts even though I was a high school student in activities such as Soccer, Drill Team, & Softball. Loved my job and was always happy in the environment where I worked with many different people.  Never had problems with the customers I dealt with but had a couple problems with a couple coworkers. It was the hardest problem for me because I noticed they were stealing tips we all had to share so I professionally brought it to the managers attention but since they were related to other coworkers I was punished with fewer shifts which then led me to put in my 2 weeks and focus on my education. I however did learn how to check ids for alcohol and give wristbands, set up tables and chairs, put napkins in the glasses, set up the silver ware properly on the table and cater food to parties.

The view from the company cafeteria was spectacular.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management is well versed with micro managing their staff to the point where they leave/retire/quit.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
In the beginning (before 2000), the company culture was family oriented, but in later years, it became very corporate, so the employees' morale tanked.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I was busy spending hours or days working on one translation project, depending on its scope.  I was tasked with translating documents for 20+ departments throughout the organization.

The Knights of Columbus is a community of men that places charity as its most important value. Typically the Knights of Columbus volunteer to perform tasks that benefit communities in need such as domestic violence victims, families who have lost loved ones, troubled families, and even simply those in the community who simply need a few extra funds. The Knights of Columbus is not simply limited to a local church or the nation, but internationally. The hardest part of being a part of the Knights is sometimes finding the time in your schedule to help volunteer for projects. The most enjoyable part of the job is the satisfaction received from volunteering and the sense of brotherhood from fellow peers.
