The atmosphere is fairly laid back but can get very busy very quickly. Add on examinations are a daily occurrence in every modality. You quickly learn to be flexible and available for whatever you are needed for. It is not uncommon to begin in general x-ray and go from routine x-rays to flouroscopy to OR c-arm cases all in the span of an eight hour shift. This can be hectic at times but there are slower days that make up for the busier ones. A half hour lunch is short but is normal for this field. The people that work here are the best part of the job. Most people are friendly and genuinely like to get to know you. Management and benefit packages heavily favor seniority. If you have been here for less than five years it can be difficult to get requested time off. All full time techs are required to work every third weekend and cannot request that weekend off. There are usually a slew of activities to be enjoy in the summer including, volleyball, runs to raise money for the community hospital, and even a softball tournament. Overall a great place to work!

This workplace has a generally positive atmosphere, largely because of the coworkers. Most team members are friendly, approachable, and willing to help, which makes day-to-day work more manageable. I felt supported by colleagues, especially when learning new workflows or handling busy shifts. The teamwork aspect is one of the strongest parts of the job and helped reduce some of the pressure that comes with the role.

That said, the job can be a little stressful at times. The workload can become heavy during peak hours, and expectations can feel high, especially when staffing is tight or when multiple tasks need to be handled at once. Time management is important, and there are moments when the pace can feel overwhelming, particularly for newer staff who are still building confidence.

In terms of compensation, the pay is about average compared to similar positions. It is reasonable but not particularly competitive, especially considering the level of responsibility and stress involved. Overall, this job may be a good fit for someone who values supportive coworkers and doesn’t mind a moderately stressful environment, but those seeking higher pay or a slower pace may want to consider other options.

The higher ups of both the hospital itself and especially the current heads of the IT department are good people. They will work with you to sort out both professional and personal matters. Do your job and you wont have any issues. 

That being said, the communication between departments is abysmal. There is no standard way to put in helpdesk tickets for example. So you'll be checking 3-5 different info streams to answer requests. Often those requests will NOT have all the proper information you need to fix the issue, so you will have to follow up often. 

Also worth noting. The vast majority of the employee population here are over 40 and very tech illiterate. You will have repeat callers asking you to do things you've shown them how to do 100 times, weekly. You will be shocked and just how capable the older generations are at breaking things. So if that sort of thing bothers you, I would look elsewhere. 

Knox Community Hospital is an isolated blasts from the past. The Director of Finance and Controller as well as other management has as much management experience as a third shift taco bell assistant cashier. Very unorganized, very crude, and very selfish.

There is no formal training and expectations are beyond anything reasonable. But make sure you don't try to make any improvements. This management loves the 80's management style and does not appreciate anyone who can help excel them into the current decade in terms of process improvements.

Be ready to be amazed by the lip service of how great things are and then feel free to look at the mass layoffs, benefit cuts, and incompetence from the board members down to the other management level.

I currently am a Utilization Review Nurse at Knox Community Hospital. I am also performing case management roles at this time due to recent reduction in staff. I review Medicare, Commercial Insurance, Medicare HMO, Medicaid and Medicaid HMO, self pay patients. I utilize Interqual Criteria for all reviews as this is our hospitals contracted criteria source. I submit reviews via electronically and also do phone reviews. I collaborate with case managers, social workers, hospitalists, nursing staff, ancillary staff to ensure quality care for our patients

KCH is a decent place to start out or retire but overall not my favorite place to work. My biggest complaint is compensation. I have not had a raise in the 2+ years I have worked there. I did gain a lot of knowledge and skills as my first couple years in nursing but also learned that the more you do, the more  that will be added to your plate. I do really enjoy what I do as an RN, I just don't enjoy doing it for this company. There is very much a money mindset, especially with administration/management. The CEO definitely gets his bonus even if the rest of the hospital is on a wage freeze.

Management. Everyone needs to be seen and treated the same acrossed the board.problems need to be resolved

Work environment is us good for me since I work away from everyone 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Go to a start up meeting, get my supplies for the day then go to my floor and start cleaning patient rooms, bathrooms, and nurses station

Outdated systems requiring lots of time duplicating documentation, uncoordinated programs  
Constant revolving door of  new hires in and out, wasting hospital dollars with new hire orientations continuously. Toxic work culture that pushes people out with obvious favoritism 
Billing for calls that 75% of the time is a social call with the patient.  Pushing for unnecessary calls to be completed to fulfill monthly billing quota.


I used this title because it’s true. Don’t ask for a raise. You won’t get it despite golden performance reviews. They only just within the last couple of years began giving cost of living raises. Like most management, they want to implement policies that often time DO NOT WORK for the department. Employees have little to no input on changes. Employees retention and happiness is not a priority for them. Because of this, the nurses work well together.  And as always, we love the patients. That’s why we put up with it. That and the convenience having a job locally.

It's a work environment. Good, caring staff. But it is a bit under paid compared to some of bigger surrounding, larger hospital chains. They try, but fail by comparison. Good benefits, not enough involvement in outside activities. Other companies help with fitness plans and memberships, and yet they are so into Bravo Wellness. They want their employees to meet certain wellness standards, yet they do nothing to offer help with memberships like other surrounding companies. HUM.
