Typical work day is like stepping back in time. The culture is focused on whether employees are stealing time. There is no difference between exempt or non exempt employees, time is tracked constantly. There is no flexibility. The atmosphere is stressful. Always feeling as if you are watched , being tracked, or cautious of watch you say. 
 The wfh policy is not realistic for real life events. Wfh is basically non existent and is not allowed in most depts. Although many depts did wfh during the pandemic, the common theme was that you cannot trust people who wfh. If you have children and school is out fir snow, covid or whatever you shall take PTO, you cannot wfh to be at home when your child is sick or out if school. If you get covid but don’t feel bad, you shall take PTO. “To wfh is not a privilege “
The culture for folks that come from previous jobs with experience is very different and difficult to adapt to. Your years of experience are meaningless in management’s eyes. “They” love to promote young people who have very little experience in life and work. They allow these people to know your pay, dictate your raises , and treat you poorly. 
Middle age people with 15-20 years experience are forgotten, given very little advancement, and are to answer to 20- something’s with less than 5 years of experience. This is a common theme throughout the entire organization. These team leads and mangers are encouraged to document everything on you to make sure they have something on you, whether it’s accurate or not. 

KUB does not offer maternity leave or bereavement , you take short term leave and PTO, respectfully.
Only positive aspects are: it’s stable and insurance is cheap.
If you are young and fresh outta school this is the place for you, cause KUB values younger employees so they can mold them. If you are experienced and want to be treated as if you are a child ,micromanaged , and constantly tracking your time then go for it…

Job Work/Life Balance - Well, as in intern, it's basically whatever hours you want to be there you can be there up to normal full time hours. For full time guys it seems pretty flexible with quite a few unnecessary site visits after a long lunch break.

Compensation/Benefits - No benefits (at the time) and pay was pretty low compared to other engineering internships available. I think for full time the benefits are pretty decent with compensation being pretty low compared to other positions.

Job Security/Advancement - Once you're in, it's your job to lose. Advancement, at least while I was there, seemed to be whoever kissed the most butt or was buddy-buddy got the nods for big promotions. There seemed to be a pretty expected route of promotions for everyone else. 

Management - Well, I wasn't in the best spot for my internship. For what I was doing it was incredibly lenient and friendly. School was always first since the work I was doing wasn't really important or necessary. From a full time employee's perspective, management was the enemy and arguably incompetent from the daily conversations around the office. 

Job Culture - Pretty laid back until something bad happens with the system or on a project. People were friendly and helpful to me my time there. However, it seemed to be a pretty political office with lots of water cooler chit chat always going on. 

Overall, as an internship, I'd say it's not worth your time.

Extremely poor/ignorant management.  They have no clue as to what is going on or how to do their jobs. They have their favorites list and bad list.  Doesn't matter how good and hard a worker you are, I have seen to many good people put on the bad list and will do everything they can to get you to leave, including flat out bold face lie!  There is a lot of nepotism here.  If you are related to any of the VP's you get good jobs even though you are completely unqualified and are promoted even though you are completely incompetent.  Worst run organization I have ever worked for.  They need to fire the entire VP and management staff and bring in competent people who know what they are doing, have actual skills in the utility industry, and have actual management experience.

Do not expect career advancement here. If you want to do the same thing, for roughly the same pay, for the rest of your career then you may enjoy it here. But most of the encouragement that management puts out is completely inauthentic, solely for putting on a show for HR. Your peers are generally great people, but they are also generally stuck in the same boat as you. Morale is low, and very few people feel good walking into work in the morning. There is heavy micro-managing, everyone feels like they are always walking on eggshells. Management in general is the “good ol’ boys club” and are very reluctant to change any practices to better help their employees. 

Took all orders first thing in the morning to get the equipment to all the workers to get them to their assigned destinations.
I learned many job functions such as construction, water, and electric.
Very close and healthy relationship with all my co-workers. Became my family over the 23 years of service.
The hardest part of my job was the testing and lab work I had to perform from the transformers but I love that it challenged me to utilize my skills.
My overall postition and that we all as a department stuck together in our department to help one another.

The good:
The benefits are good.
The pay is decent.
You learn a lot about the company and utilities working in Customer Service.

The bad:
The turnover rate is high.
It seems like the supervisors want you to be a robot answering the phone.
More representatives are stressed than not.
There are not a lot of advancement options in the department.

Advice:
If you are hired in Customer Service and have plans to transfer to a different department one day, make sure you network with people in the department you hope to go to. The saying "It's not what you know, but who you know" definitely applies here.

When I started working at KUB about a year and a half ago, I knew very little about the company despite being a happy customer for 15 years. Since joining, I've been nothing but impressed with KUB's commitment to excellence, being ethical in all things, and the true care they have for their employees. Not only does KUB say they care, but they show it through development opportunities, competitive pay, and a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion for all. 

Typical day at work consists of working with various Microsoft applications. Fantastic work culture, you’re truly cared about. The most difficult part is relying on other people or departments to get information to you in order for you to complete your job.

Could be a great place to work. Depends on management and how it has changed over the years. When I worked at KUB, admin assistants were managed by other admin. The chain/line of work was filtered through the lead admin and it was hard to confirm details at times.

I have thoroughly enjoyed working at Knoxville Utilities Board and I would gladly go back to work there. The environment is nice as well as the people. Every department that I have had the privilege of working with or simply meeting people from various departments has been a wonderful, learning experience.
