As a graphic designer, the job itself is fine. The management is the joke. I took the job because the manager who had hired me seemed like an excellent person to work for and he was! The entire team was great, actually and I enjoyed working with all 3 of them. That was short-lived and huge changes blindsided our team which resulted in my senior graphic designer and manager quitting. 

Ever since that change, it felt like an uphill battle to keep from not breaking down every day. I can't tell you how often in a week I just cried on my way home because the work environment just took such much out of me, emotionally. One second, everything seemed fine and then the next, we're wondering if we are about to be laid off and this type of psychological torment lasted almost 2 years. My coworkers and I toyed with the idea of quitting so many times but were talked out of it with reasoning like "Well if you quit, what if you just end up working for another team like this one but its worse? This place isn't THAT bad." 

I cannot speak for other positions at this company, but as the only on-site graphic designer, I can tell you confidently that this place has ZERO space for creativity. For one, the dress code strips you of any self expression. No tats, crazy hair, piercings. Oh and you can't wear necklaces, bracelets and no more than one ring per hand. I WISH I was kidding.

Workplace culture: the highest management is so ultra conservative that literally every facet of their business is dusty and outdated. So if you thrive in a close-minded workplace then this place is exactly what you need. 

What I learned here: Despite the frigid demeanor towards their employees, I am worth SO much more than they ever paid me there. Even if they offer 'competitive wages' for their future graphic designer, it will NEVER be enough for what they ask of you with their poor communication (if they bother to communicate at all) and zero follow through that will make getting anything completed the biggest headache.

The most enjoyable part of the day was leaving at the end of the day. Oh and the occasional Jimmy Johns sandwich you got when a birthday happened.

Good luck to those who apply for their marketing team. I genuinely hope its heaps better than my experience and I hope they wise-up soon and start caring about their team. 

I should note that I gave job work/life balance 3 stars because yes, I did get to typically leave at a reasonable time at the end of the day. However, this place was so negative that I often took home all my frustration and let it affect my life which lead to counseling. I don't think the higher-up management really believes that mental health exists or matters, honestly.

Where to begin.  It didn't take long to achieve a significant position of seniority as a caregiver here seeing as the facility is basically one large revolving door for employees and residents alike.  Do not think for a second that management even remotely cares about you or your interests, or even the residents for that matter.  All they care about is filling rooms.  

They will ignore or deny every single request, no matter how trivial it may be.  It's not uncommon to find yourself so dangerously understaffed and it's a joke to expect any managers to do anything about it.  They won't even bother calling other people to help out, they'll make you do it.  I wish I could say that it was uncommon for management to schedule you with less than 24 hours in advance without giving you literally any notice at all. 
 Then they will yell at you for not showing up to a shift you had no possible way of knowing about.

Requesting time off is literally impossible.  It could be your wedding day and it will get denied (this isn't exaggeration.  This actually has happened to an employee).  If you plan on going to school to further your career, they will get rid of you instead of putting in the tiniest amount of effort into working around your school schedule.  If you stick around through the periods of intense under-staffing where they will force you to work significantly long weeks or be fired, they will reward you with a $5 Starbucks gift card and hire more caregivers and pay them more than you.

The number of complaints residents and employees have made to state officials is remarkably high.  Residents will openly cuss at management as they walk by without shame.  I honestly could write an entire book on the ways in which management has made working at this place a miserable experience.  The only reason I have stuck around for so long is because the residents I take care of themselves are wonderful, wonderful people.  And the rest of the care staff is amazing.  We've lost so many good staff members throughout my time here, and every single one of them for the same reason.  The managers are unbearable.  Find literally any other facility in the world.  I promise.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part about working for this company is the consistent, reliable support from the Home Office. The team is highly accessible, and I’ve never felt like I was on my own…..I can always get someone on the phone to talk through challenges and problem-solve in real time. Beyond that, there is a genuine sense of kindness and willingness to help, which makes a meaningful difference day to day. That level of responsiveness and collaboration truly sets the organization apart and makes a fast-paced role much more manageable.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part of the role is the pace and unpredictability that comes with supporting multiple communities. Priorities can shift quickly, and there are often competing demands that require immediate attention. It can be challenging to balance urgent issues while still focusing on long term goals.

That said, the strong support from the Home Office makes a meaningful difference. Having a team that is accessible, responsive, and willing to help navigate challenges helps alleviate some of that stress and allows you to problem solve more effectively in real time.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture is supportive and feels very family-oriented….people genuinely look out for one another and want to see each other succeed. One of the core values is having fun at work, and you can actually feel that day to day. Even with how busy things can get, teams find ways to keep things positive and bring some energy and humor into the workplace, which makes a big difference.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
There’s really no “typical” day, you might start with a plan, but it can change quickly. The day usually includes calls with communities, supporting teams, troubleshooting issues, and moving projects forward, with a fair amount of pivoting in between. It keeps things interesting and definitely builds strong problem-solving skills.

This new location opened in Elk Grove.
You would expect it to be a good fresh start.
But I have had numerous jobs, and this was by far the worst. 

- Workers being pressured to complete tasks outside of their job description such as heavy house cleaning after extreme, construction 
- Management not being supportive or caring about the health of employees
- Staff being over worked and micromanaged with directors hovering around
- Extremely Understaffed, extra labor and stress pushed onto the staff causing everyone to project that onto each other especially with management not helping or caring enough to solve that issue
- There are Favorites who the directors will listen to or let them get away with certain activities/habits and less work
- Underpaid for the amount of Extra Labor Work being added on after you are hired, which was not included on the application, description, or in the interview

*** Stay away from the Elk Grove location if you do not want to be overworked, understaffed, bone tired, disrespected, disregarded, unseen, unheard, mentally drained and much more.

Management (The Directors) may say a lot and invalidate this, but the staff members know the truth and of course they would not understand. They are the ones being manipulative, expecting staff to bend backwards to do extra work when they aren't being paid enough for it, and making unreasonable commands/demands. 

After all, that's why 10+ employees who have been there for a few months resigned at this location, even though it just opened in February.

If you are a self-starter and independent learner, you can go far here. If you prefer a very formal environment with clear boundaries and training step-by-step processes, you might not thrive here. The focus is on action and integrity.

As an Executive Director, I found the role a profound opportunity to improve the experience of each team member. In this role, not only could I influence quality care for every senior under my care, but I could also deeply impact the people who worked at my center day in and day out. And, again, it was an opportunity to use creativity and initiative to build something I could be proud of with amazing partners. 

I appreciate Koelsch as it's family owned and operated, strives to operate with ethics and integrity while serving vulnerable adults, champions education on aging-related issues, and focuses on old-fashioned values like dignity and respect for all people.

This place is a good place to work for and pay is decent . The only down fall is the resident assistants have to help with passing meals during a evening shift which should be the kitchens dietary job to do so. There isn’t that much of the staff working in the kitchen only 3 people during the day. Also there isn’t enough staff for caregivers on the floor most of the staff either calls in or is a no show which is why this place is always hiring Not enough to help take care of almost 70 residents who live there which is why some of them have or are soiled in bed or their clothes most of the day with bad bed sores cause a lot of the caregivers are on there phones with there air pods on while working . No housekeeping staff available if a resident makes a mess with there Bm or urine so clean up is up to you to fend for on top of 70 residents you have to help take care of . The nurses don’t do much to help except count meds, stay in the office all of shift , and talk in the office the med techs which they’re not much of help either . Some Caregivers here are the ones who pick up the slack and while some leave the work load. Otherwise the other staff are a no show, making tik tok videos, talking on the phone during their shift , or not paying attention to the residents when there is a fall. Otherwise it’s a good place to work for ! Management is only around when they need to be otherwise don’t bother !

Poor management. They overmanage the staff and they don’t care about us. They are all about having a perfect staff with no problems between caregivers. They expect everyone to be best friends and never argue. When something does come up, they don’t listen to both sides of a story whoever is the first to speak up is the only side they listen to, while the other person doesn’t get a chance to explain there side. Horrible management, if you want to work somewhere that you are constantly stressed out because of your management team then this is the place for you. The schedule is always a mess and your almost always short staffed or have certain people working 6-7 days a week. Under staffed, overworked and under paid. Peer pressure to the Max. Managers have family working here under them. This whole place is just a mess. The residents are awesome and I love my job but this facility is not a good one. The nurses are your “Supervisor on duty” when management isn’t there. Which I love the nurses and they all do an amazing job but some are overstrict and don’t let the staff joke with each other, while some are too lenient and allow too much joking with not enough work. Overall the nurses are awesome and great supervisors but the management team is exactly that....they manage manage manage....instead of lead, they boss. I’m only staying here for the nurses and residents 

The Park at Laguna Springs is a beautiful community. Unfortunately, the higher ups take whatever cost-saving measures they can to save a buck. There was a 3x3 foot hole in the President's room ceiling for about 5 months (as there was no budget to fix it), exposed wires by Emmett's Garage, and warped linoleum and uneven flooring on each floor. There were constant problems with the gas heater for the pool, and every time they were reported, employee and resident concerns were tossed aside. 

As for actual work, PLS is consistently understaffed, running on less than a skeleton crew, and Receptionists were expected to be servers and janitorial staff. Servers call out? Congrats, you are now serving 60+ residents who glare at you despite you doing your best and having no serving experience. Independent Resident leave a trail of feces down the hall, in the elevator, and through the carpeted hall? Congrats, that is now your problem.

The residents definitely view you as "the help" and while a small amount are kind, the vast majority are more than happy to scream at you knowing there is nothing you can do to fix their problems. 

There is a problem with "doubling it and giving it to the next person". If one staff member is unable to complete their work, regardless of department, it will be passed onto you! Hurray! 

The first thing you notice is the horrific smell of the place. The phony smiles that welcome you at the front door then when your employed you will see the true colors of the staff. The receptionist will talk to you then talk about you like she does her own bosses, so horribly about their weight and personal lives.  Not nice, backstabbing and belittling, especially from the E.D.  Leaving you to work extra hours without notice as if.youve got nothing else going on in your life (like them).  Dont be fooled by the beauty of the bldg, it is  not as nice as it seems.  The maintenance director is immature and flirts  with staff, like hes got it going on, he doesnt but thinks he does.  He should focus more on keeping the building clean and in working condition.  The marketing lady is barbie on steroids, the nurses are so undereducated and the caregivers are overworked and underpaid!  The families complain all the time about the poor care that is given and the  residents are aloof to all thats going on.  I dont know how this building stays afloat.  Staff dors not stay long enough.

I worked there straight out of nursing school, 4 hrs orientation and boom suddenly at 5 p.m. I am the highest authority in the building. 1 LVN, 58 residents on 3 separate locked halls. Anything goes wrong and it's your fault. Anytime a family member shows up you are expected to drop everything and bring them a tray with a glass pitcher of water and snacks. 
You have to clock out for lunch but can't leave because a resident may need assistance.  The pay is terrible, no vacation and 3 PTO days a year, no holiday pay or sick pay when I was there. Nepotism is rampant! All higher ups are beyond snooty! Shift schedules made no sense, if you had friends in high places you would get every weekend off. If you dont have friends you would work the 3 -11 mon, 7-3 Tues, 3-11 Wed and 7-3 Thurs. So fun working on 5 hours of sleep!. 
Oh I worked in the Alz/Dem building. Across the street was the assisted living facility, if that nurse called off you were expected to go over there and pass meds for an additional 60-70 patients who are ambulatory and may be any where on the 3 floors and you have to get charting and everything done for both buildings because even 15 minutes of OT would mean a counseling session on time management.
