The company pays well, and some people are supportive. 

The company is also overrated.

The communication needs improvement. Too many people don't really know how to do their jobs. Expectations, policies and procedures are not well communicated or not communicated at all. There are a lot of last minute communications about a lot of things, including notifications about scheduling, where employees are expected to see clients with little to no information about them. Or you are just given misinformation. 

Location and hours are not always transparently communicated. They give some employees cases that require you to drive very far, whether distance-wise or time-wise, as in an hour or longer. They say they'll localize you but take longer than they vaguely let on. You have to be willing to work until 7PM and on weekends, which also may not be communicated early on.

The training is not very good, companywide. There's not a lot of value placed on competency in ABA.

It is surprisingly common at Gateway for employees to actually lower their voices in the office when someone in upper management is in the other room, and to otherwise say privately amongst themselves, complaints about how bad the training is, how bad the communication is, and how parents on their cases have been talking about wanting to leave Gateway. There's a surface positivity that is not always genuine. I was really struck by the schism between the emphasis on positivity and a large amount of informal complaining.

Many parents complain often about not having enough hours. Gateway takes on too many clients they don't have enough BTs to staff. It is inconsiderate to the families to leave them waiting around for so long, with very few hours worked on a case despite the recommendation for and family availability for more hours. It would be more caring to not accept the case or to clearly communicate from the outset to families that Gateway is understaffed with BTs without any end in sight.

The company shifts too many BCBA and BT staff around on clients, and parents complain about it. Whether it's because of turnover even among BCBAs, unwise scheduling, or some other reason, it is not in the client's best interests.

The company has high turnover. One of the owners, who has high influence on company culture, said that Millennials job hop until they find a good fit and that that's the problem Gateway was facing with turnover among their BTs. Blame the employee's age? As an ABA company, they should know that behavior results from the environment you create. They should look at themselves as upper management and do something to improve communication, training, scheduling, etc., and maybe then they wouldn't have as much turnover.

Pros:
* Can be really FUN! 
* Great support for BTs to train and take for the RBT exam
* Good training structure, and adequate supervision
* More kid-centric than a lot of ABA companies - emphasis on naturalized intervention in kid-led play, when possible and appropriate.
* Super supportive supervisors who will give you SHINE for doing a great job. They will not look down on you for asking many questions - in fact, you are encouraged to ask questions if you're unsure of anything, because as technicians, it is our job to carry out trials with precision, consistency, and in a way that serves the client's learning needs.
* Recognition from regional staff
* Super rewarding to work with clients. I LOVED working with kids.
* You will learn a LOT! 
* Ample career growth opportunities in a supportive company with overall positive work culture
* Flexible schedule 

Cons: 
* Potentially long commutes, especially if your clients are spread out in the region.
* No sick pay - you have to use your PTO, if you have any 
* Pay in general is low for BTs, but not as low as some BT jobs.
* Sometimes it is a struggle to get hours in the beginning, but if you are full-time, Kyo will prioritize getting you hours and it usually works out. This was a huge financial burden me, though. 

Advice and takeaways:
* Great for anyone who is growing in their career, or wondering whether working with children with autism is a good fit. 
* Great for anyone
* Agree with what others said: be open to learning. There is no place for ego in this role. You WILL make mistakes. You WILL need to problem-solve on the spot. Do your best, be open to feedback, and communicate often with your team members and you will do well in this role. As you become comfortable in your role, your rapport with the kiddos will also improve, and both of these things relate.
* Frequently communicate with your supervisor about any confusing situations, questions, new situations/behaviors, or errors that arise. They will appreciate it and can work to document this. Some of this will be important to guide intervention, as our clients are constantly growing and changing.

Working here was one of the most disheartening professional experiences I’ve had. I started genuinely excited to grow in the field and support clients, but what I encountered instead was a chaotic and unsupportive environment.

Despite the job posting listing $27/hr, I was paid $22. The scheduling team often made errors that affected my hours, pay, and even my cancellation rate. Attempts to raise concerns were met with silence or dismissal. Communication was inconsistent and rarely constructive.

I was assigned a mentor who micromanaged every aspect of my sessions, which made it difficult to build rapport with my client or feel confident in my role. The overall workplace culture lacked professionalism, transparency, and empathy.

Toward the end of my time, I faced a very serious accusation with no clear explanation or opportunity to clarify—an experience that left me confused and deeply disappointed.

The only redeeming part of this job was my BCBA, who listened to my concerns and treated me with respect.

Unfortunately, the job took a toll on both my mental health and finances. I would not recommend this workplace to anyone seeking growth, stability, or a supportive team.

Their pay sounds nice, but it isn't when you get cancellations. If you make 18 p/h at your clinical rate and you get a cancellation you don't get paid for it. YOU lose out on that money. You could take a sub-session that will magically fit your time frame (rarely available) OR you could do office work at 75% of your pay rate (15 dollars). During the holidays expect to have every single client on vacation. There is only so much office time you could do. Office time is just completing small projects like creating token boards or social stories for BCBA's (supervisors). Once all the tasks are complete, you can complete an article review on outdated articles related to Autism. None of that takes 4 hours though, you may have well over 10 hours in cancellations.

Full-Time to them is 110 hours a month. If you fall below that due to cancellations they will bump you down to part-time. They don't want to give you benefits. All they offer is 401k they don't match anything, they have health insurance, but good luck getting that as a BT.

You rarely have face to face interaction with anyone else at your company except for monthly meetings and supervisor overlaps. 

Anytime the client is late or cancels on you last minute, you basically pay for it. Some clients can be careless, sometimes the company itself is careless in that they don't communicate when something gets canceled or changes. 

There are also lots of politics in the office... That of which I will address once I find myself a new job.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Only good thing is that it’s close to home. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
My experience with this company has been disappointing overall. During the hiring process, I was led to believe that the pay would be higher than $20 per hour. In the interview, I clearly stated that I was looking for anything above $20, and I was assured that the position would meet or exceed that expectation. However, once I received the official offer, the pay rate was significantly lower than what had been discussed.
Unfortunately, I turned down stronger opportunities with other companies based on the compensation expectations presented during the interview process. The lack of transparency regarding pay was frustrating and ultimately did not align with what was promised.
In addition to the lower pay, the workload and stress level have not matched the compensation provided. I was earning more at my previous retail position while dealing with far less pressure and responsibility. Another major concern is the limited number of hours available. Employees are often scheduled for only around 15 hours per week, with no clear guarantee of additional cases or opportunities for more consistent work.
For anyone seeking stable income and reliable hours to support themselves financially, this may not be the best option.

Gateway Learning Group is an awesome place to work. It was perfect for me as I worked for my BA in Psychology. The way that the schedule works provided me with a ton of flexibility to be able to work and also go to college as a full time student. The reason I left is because I had a financial need at the time that pushed me away. Because of the way that the schedule works (you drive from client to client, at times have large gaps in the day and compensation for drive time is not the same as for session time) I was not able to earn as much as I needed. I hoped to return one day but I simply would not be able to return to a schedule like that and need to continue elsewhere. They provide excellent training, coworkers and supervisors are supportive, parents are so kind and the little ones are so awesome all in their own way! Overall, if the schedule isn't an issue or if you are still taking classes, then Gateway Learning Group is an amazing place to work with children on the spectrum, you will learn so much there and it will definitely be worth it.  

While this line of work can be very hard to deal with, I have always felt very supported by the BCBAs around me. While they do have mentors set in place to be there for you, Once you get comfortable with one it seems like they always leave (which is normal in this field). I recently got a “promotion” but with this there was no pay raise, so it sees while it is great for experience, they ask why to much of you for not enough. But because of these roles it does give extra support to BT’s when needed. While they gave an INTENSE training for this job, nothing truly pushes you to learn than being inside of the job itself. Which at that point you may feel lost because you are alone in a strangers home. Always asking questions though is VERY helpful and you should never feel embarrassed to ask. The team I have grown with is pretty open and compassionate. Clients can easily cancel sessions which can mess with pay, but Kyo does have some compensation on that (based on workers attendance). They have a 24 hour email policy that is honestly amazing because it makes sure you get answers to question in a timely manner. Over all I have fallen in love with the job here. 

Like a lot of other reviews, one area of improvement for this company is scheduling. RBTs have to wait for the scheduling department to give hours, and the process for obtaining a 40+ hour work week depends on the demand for services. Sub sessions were offered until your schedule fills up. I loved everything about Kyo and I really enjoyed my time with the company, but the reason I left was because I was not given the full time hours I expected when I applied for the job. My pay was excellent, but it didn’t matter because my schedule kept fluxuating from less than 30 hours to at most 15 hours a week within a span of two months. At times I would spontaneously be removed from cases without notice which affected my hours(no sessions=no money). Essentially, I had to make a hard decision to leave and find another job with guaranteed consistent hours to make a living where I lived(San Francisco). Other than scheduling, everything else about Kyo is exceptional.

I have worked in aba for nearly 5 years. The Oregon branch is overall chaotic. They will promise you full time then staff you for under 20 hours a week, they expect open availability from 3-7pm regardless if you already have a client in the morning; I was told I need to “be expecting to hear from them at anytime Monday-Friday between 3-7pm and am required to have that time free and available incase they decide they need to get ahold of me”, they then tried to staff me with a client in Eugene while I currently live and work in Portland Oregon so I would be making a 3 hour trip there and another 3 hour trip back- 6 hour round trip to work with the kiddo for 4 hours which they then told me I need to be flexible working where ever there is a demand for clients. I decided to put my 2 weeks in shortly (3 months) after being hired as I was unable to live off the 9 hours a week they offered despite all my efforts to pick up more hours they claimed they didn’t have the clients for it. There are far better company’s for those looking to work in the field; I highly recommend staying far away from Kyo especially the Oregon region. 

I had an amazing relationships with my fellow RBTs and BCBAs, but as this job was in-home; everything was mostly independent. This isn’t best suited for fresh RBTs like myself who had 40 hours of training and then were sent straight off to appointments with clients. While I could rely a fast response from my BCBA regarding certain behaviors, it doesn’t replace the helpfulness that in-person could provide. I recommend you get some experience in a Clinic before delving into at home services. It taught me a lot on how to improvise as well as problem solve on the dot. This position, while stressful, also taught me to be more assertive and direct when communicating with others. Being unsure of yourself is the fastest way to make other school staff, parents, or caretakers to lack confidence that you can do your job.
