LAC+USC Medical Center

I loved LAC-USC, made some of my best friends there. It is a hospital and it can be hectic, but we always worked together to figure everything out. LAC-USC gave me the opportunity to volunteer, work and perform my clinical skills all in one place. A typical day at work consisted of helping everyone with any question they may have for the hospital information desk. We received many calls and many, many visitors and patients. We would also assist any employee who needed assistance or had questions for us. I learned so much from the hospital setting, and learned so very much of the hospital itself. The hardest part of the job was maintaining emotional balance, sometimes the stress visitors were feeling for their patients I would get from them. Being the one to give visitor passes I was some of the few people they would see first, and emotionally it was hard at times, we felt their pain, their stress, their anger, and all they could feel. Keeping myself together to help out was hard but not impossible. Yet, everything was enjoyable, helping people, especially when they spoke Spanish, or a different language I did not speak, I felt so accomplished when I was able to help them out with their needs, LAC-USC has a great system with language interpreters that always saved the day. Over all, I can say this place has given me so much knowledge and experience and I am thankful to have experienced it all here.

I believe the title will say it all. Unsatisfied with what this agency provides for us employees. A typical day of our job consists of all types of batches handed out to you, and expected to be completed. Despite changes within the county forms or rules implied by the county leads and not a set forms list. Management from our agency and county is horrible! Our agency from our project manager to our project lead both can't figure how to run the office properly. Project manager is never in the facility, mind you I never seen her in my life. Project lead just gets paid to be there. The majority of employees are very good get there work completed with no problems, but you do have some immature individuals to this day. Hardest part about my job I will say is going there knowing there's no other employment opportunities where i can imply my work hard work ethics. My work here is underpaid, with no benefits and they ask to much of me without a raise. I can easily be the lead but unfortunately my project manager would like to hire a new lead without any experience and no knowledge of what this job is about. The only part i like about this job is the time, days off, and job location or commute.

A typical day at work would be when I get feedback from my clients. for Example, client telling me that they Like the service I provided, my approach, serving them in a timely manner.

 I find myself quick to  learn type of person. someone's story, incident on the road, teacher   in any of the class I'm taking in college all can be a source of Learning opportunities if I open my eyes wide enough to grasp. 

Management can be a tough thing to do if oneself can not manage his own time, money, family. I believe that I manage well when it comes to all the above things and that gives me a good Management skills at work or any social setting that needs a leading job.
 
I enjoy being alive first so I can accept what the day brings at work or anywhere I go. so the most enjoyable thing for me would be people, seeing a lots of me help me to treat everyone like I treat myself. Clients, co-workers or family members can be enjoyable when you get to provide what they need and the fact that you are able to do what people need help with would be a happiest moment for my work day.

Early in the shift you cover the phones as they are busy from wards inquiring and requesting staffing, at the same time your getting sick calls, and your also organizing, handing out timesheets for incoming personnel.  You also have to make timesheets and schedule requests on the spot when theres a line of people coming in and at the same time clocking out in which you also receive and organize their timesheets.

As soon as incoming and outgoing personnel are gone, then you organize the outgoing timesheets to enter or confirm in the system.  Once completed, you then file the timesheets, at the same time answering and following up calls form wards and outside callers regarding staffing including sick calls.  You can now get started on getting staffing numbers from each wards according to their number of patients, as well as contacting the agencies for their temporary staffing personnel.

Provide clerical support to other higher level staffers, and help to enforce policies of staffed personnel ensuring they are dressed properly and are up to date in their requirements.

I start my shift with getting a report about my patient. My patient's ailments are mostly trauma related:  such as  gunshot wounds, motor vehicle accidents, assaults, or work related injury. In many instances my  patient may have multiple injuries and complex medical issues. Often my  shift  would include providing interventions in emergency situations, such as assisting with intubations or resuscitation, administering medications, drawing blood, and managing hemodynamics as well as ICP. We often have unexpected situations, such as new incoming patients with life-threatening injuries. We are always prepared to switch gears and juggle several things at one time. Working in this environment taught me to become a very effective team player that understands how to effectively contribute to every changing situation. The best part on working here is you never stop learning.

Scheduling work assignments, for proper placement/ coverage. Doing rounds, walking the floors, and checking work for cleanliness and safety issues. input associates time into the Easy clocking data base. review and approve workforce time off, Vacations and holidays time off, and I counsel workforce members when needed. I've learned to prioritize, to delegate and to trust my instincts. My direct manager help me work through situations that may be out of my scope of expertise. he gives me clarity. We have a culture of acceptance and inclusion. Professionalism and respect. There aren't any hard days. I enjoy our stat of the shift huddles where we meet and greet on another and give the crew there instructions and directions       

This is a very good learning institution that will present many learning experiences and skills for employees.  I had previously volunteered in one of the college programs that allowed me to learn from the physician assistants who worked in the high paced emergency department at LAC/USC Medical Center in 2006.  LAC/USC Medical Center is in the heart of Los Angeles and it is the largest trauma center in the county.  Many different types of cases including accidents, stabbings, gunshot wounds, and psychiatric cases are treated at this facility.  I learned many skills and procedures while working at this hospital and I am very proud to have worked for the County of Los Angeles.

On any given day an emergency strikes and as a level 1 trauma center we are on the forefront to handle the crisis. 
The great thing about this department is everyone is aware of their position and its importance. Most workers are ready to assist. Everyone collectively gets the patient stable and on some cases bring them back to life.
The hardest thing about the job is the huge influx of patients when we are short staff ultimately resulting in increasing wait times, however the DEM Staff gets the job done and ensure patients satisfaction.
I have been in employed by LAC+USC Medical Center for more than 10 years.  It is a pleasure to be a part of the DEM staff. We are family oriented and full of love & support.

This job was one of the worst I’ve worked. A lot of blatant favoritism and a very hostile environment. I dreaded going to work everyday. Management also doesn’t inform you of some of the important details until after you accept job offer-like parking. They asked me if I drive but didn’t inform me I’d be parking a whole street over off site. Even though I lived close, I had to calculate a walking commute which was a huge negative. Pay was low and favorited  coworkers often got away with unexcused absences.  I was given an evaluation by my peers who labeled me incompetent when I did more than them. Also, I was more experienced. Their jealousy was apparent. My supervisor knew of my experience and had told me he wanted to make me a supervisor yet never did.
