My experience as a patient here was pleasant and some of the staff is patient-oriented. I was a medical assistant here for about 3 years, I quit working here when I moved out of state but got re-hired after moving back as a temp and asked to go through another interview process, I then got hired full-time. During the last three months that I was there, there was a large turnover in nurses/management/providers more than i’d seen in any other health clinic, at that point, I had began seeking new employment. There was also a large focus on reaching certain quota, as we were considered “the best clinic” in the state based on numbers that we met and were offered incentives for meeting these measures, we would actually call patients to come in for what could be multiple office visits$ until we met our numbers. The office is an at-will employer which is made clear when you are hired, they reserve the right to terminate anyone at anytime without reason. My overall experience as an employee was obviously good because I accepted the position twice. I enjoyed helping patients and many times they reciprocated their gratitude. The salary and benefits are also competitive for that county. That being said one of the things I didn’t enjoy was the gossip, not amongst or in regards to patients but sadly in between staff members and administration (some of which were related) which was bothersome because it almost seemed political and bias. Everything is a business, including medical clinics, so in addition to patient care there has to be some sort of revenue. To maintain internal revenue we made as many internal consults as possible, even if the internal specialists so to speak were not the best suited for the patients. I met many great and knowledgeable providers and nurses in this office for this I’m thankful and I do believe that most of them have good intentions. On thanksgiving I received an email from HR to have a meeting in his office later that afternoon. When I showed up to his office we were joined by the compliance officer and they immediately gave me a letter of termination and asked if I needed a box. My manager was out of the office that week and I felt very uncomfortable and confused being handed this letter because these were people that I didn’t see everyday nor my direct supervisors, although the person who signed the letter was not present. Part of me wanted to ask questions but I felt like judgments had already been made because I was never given a warning or asked to discuss any potential problems. I had, however, been reprimanded in the past about my punctuality but I feel like if that had been the case it would’ve been more straight forward because why would I try to deny FACTS. I felt that they were being sneaky for not giving me a benefit of the doubt. What bothered me most is that I was not a stranger here, I worked with people that I considered like family it felt like they turned their back on me. It was a reflection of character. This is not based on facts so I did not speak on the matter when I heard about it but a couple weeks before my termination I guess there was a federal case being investigated against LCTH involving a company vehicle and other employees who were involved including upper management (who are still currently employed for the company). My theory is that they either needed a storyline for these illegal actions (mind you I’m Hispanic and I drive a luxury vehicle), they had something to hide as everything is considered ‘confidential’, or it was simply personal. Reason I’m speaking about this is not to encourage anybody not to work or be a patient here because there are many benefits, but be mindful about who you think has your best interest.

To the organization
You need to look at yourself hard in the mirror.  I am disgusted by how you  handled my situation.  You know this is not how you treat people.  I closed my work schedule for the whole year  in preparation for working in your clinic and paid relocation costs.   The way you did me wrong cost me tens of thousands I could have made working at another clinic.   You are cold, harsh, and unsympathetic and you will get it back I promise.  What goes around comes around.   Do you believe in Karma?  Because I will make you believe it when I share this experience with all my colleagues for decades to come.  I hope you enjoy having a hard time finding good doctors to come work for you for generations and generations and generations to come.   Your children's children will have a hard time getting healthcare I promise you.  I don't care how much charity money the federal government throws at you, you're going to have to pay more than anyone else to make a doctor stay.  That's why you have to keep offering 50k sign on bonuses on top of a 200k salary because you keep losing doctors with your rude, condescending, and heartless management practices.  And then like a coward you blame the doctors after you terminate them when they are not around anymore to be able to defend themselves.  Next time you wonder why you can't keep any good doctors to take care of you, REMEMBER ME.  


To the doctors
Don't break your back and neck for this heartless organization.  Stand up and demand to be respected.   Don't take any disrespect from this administration in any way, shape, or form because they are heartless, inconsiderate, and fake and trust me, they will discard you as fast as they can when they no longer need you.    To them, you are expendable.   Let me remind you as I have been reminded by admin that California is an At-Will state which means they can get rid of you anytime they want and for whatever reason.  Just know they are constantly working with recruiting agencies looking for doctors to replace you (Trust me, I know because to this day, they keep calling me and telling me this).  Good luck and you have my sympathies.

They have fantastic benefits and are very understanding that sometimes life happens and you may need time off. Very caring staff for the most part who go above and beyond. They give you all the resources you need to succeed. The only negative is the occasional drama but that's to be expected at any company and has more to do with other employees/patients than the job itself or management. Management takes the time to listen if you have issues and works on resolving them to the best of their ability. There's always room to grow in this company and new positions and locations are constantly available if you aren't happy with where you are at. Overtime is even offered which most companies do not provide an option for very often. As with any job that involves customer service you will get a handful of unhappy patients and they may take it out on you, but this company doesn't tolerate mistreatment of their staff, at least in my personal experience, and will handle the situation appropriately, which is more than I can say about any other company I've worked for. Very good company to work for and I highly recommend.

The level of corruption in this organization is at an all-time high.  The organization is being investigated by the federal government for illegal practices.  If you live in town, you will eventually hear about all that is going on and it is all true.   This organization engages in a level of tribal nepotism that I have never seen in any other organization in my twenty years of working.  The administration will do anything and everything in their power to maintain their power, involving getting OTHER INNOCENT PEOPLE in trouble for their own mistakes and failures.   If you are currently working here, please watch out because if you are a nice person, they will take advantage of you and blame you for all their problems.   Then, they will write you up and then they will fire you.  Yes. fire you for their own mistakes.  They have no morals. 

IF you are a provider coming from another area, please don't unpack your bags and please do NOT sign a longterm lease because you may not stay here.  Beware of the terms of the sign of bonus and know what you are getting yourself into.   You may not get out of their alive.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Clean facility, almost bottomless budget, 25% matching 401(k). Sincere providers that are willing to make a change.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Medical director and nurse manager are not to be trusted on any level. New employees come in at higher wage than long-time employees, and it isn't addressed whatsoever. HR is a total joke; native connections to get the job, and "pay the fee, and get the degree" education. Lots of "pork-barrel, favoritism, and corruption always notable. Tribal board that has NO CLUE on what is happening, and takes graft to keep quiet. Major fraud, waste, and abuse of the Fed's support.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic on many levels, but really telling on the medical portion. Culture of fear and retribution.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Way busy from hour-one, employees much more interested in social media and gossip than patient-care. Wasting the taxpayer's $.

I'm glad I chose Lake County Tribal Health to work for.  The nurse manager is super cool.   She works just as hard and wants you to succeed and care for the patients.  So is the medical director and most of the co-workers.The company has good benefits too.  If you do your job, which they pay you well for, you will be successful.  If you dont care for the patients and is lazy, they notice pretty fast because patient care is their number one priority.  So I learned quickly to do my job and stay away from the few negative folks that work here.  Be aware if you come to work, because some of the negative energy can easily rub off on you.  You will know them because they want leave, they stick around to run other people away.

Difficult management, changing work start and stop times, was hired for 8 hour shifts, arrive 1-2 hours before start time for planning and paperwork and staff training, manager would ignore my needed planning and staff improvement education time and have me immediately do hands on clinical work, was hired as salaried clinical manager instead paid as staff hourly RN, never received appropriate wages no OT was paid as quazie staff, worked 6 days a week, 7th day off but worked at home for off time free no pay, never received benefits/no medical/no dental/no reimbursement for off hours work, paid out of pocket for prescriptions, expected to close clinic as late starter for 12-13 hour shifts but stay late for late patients to 1830-1900 but expected to come in for prep work at 0700 with early staff.

I have been working at Lake County Tribal Health for a year now and I love it! I had left my job of 10 years looking for a company that invests in their employees as much as their employees invest into them.  I have 100% found a home here at LCTHC! Starting out after your 90days of course you accrue PTO at the rate of 4 weeks for the year!!! 14 PAID (not having to use your PTO) holidays a year, plus your choice of a day for your birthday holiday! Affordable health benefits, life insurance policies, retirement, etc... 

They spoil us throughout the year with parties, events, BBQ's and feed us constantly! They are always finding new ways to support the community and give back. Lake County Tribal Health also provides top of the line care to all their patients. I can honestly say I'm proud to work here.

This company is a non-profit organization run by community members that value quality and compassionate healthcare services. All of their efforts benefit Lake County and its citizens. If you put the patients first and treat them good, this company takes care of their employees. Management is genuinely respectful to everyone and supportive of realistic goals that create positive changes for the patients. This company provides training, resources, and incentives to employees to make sure they are equipped to provide an excellent level of care. They do expect efficiency, accountability, and no drama.

Unfortunately, what  others have written about this organization is true. They have seen a slew of their best and most talented professionals leave, either voluntarily or fired. The senior management is openly hostile and lack the proper leadership to manage and lead an organization of this size. 

On the other hand it’s not difficult to get employment here. If you are looking for a paycheck-only job, then this organization might be a good fit for you.
