Typical day in the PACU involved providing care for 2-3 patients at a time, after they came out of the OR. Acuity level of patient varied, and it was imperative that the nurse be prepared for anything to happen.  
I learned to multi-task and to prioritize the needs of my patient's based on the severity of their condition.  I learned to anticipate the needs of the patient's before they made their needs known; ensuring medication to treat nausea, pain, etc were available when the patient arrived to PACU so that there was no delay in managing these symptoms.  
The unit manager was approachable and open to suggestions as to how to improve the department.  
The "team leaders" were inexperienced and not well suited for this role.  They did not take constructive criticism well and made the department function less efficiently.  
The hardest part of this job was balancing multiple critically ill patients on my own, as during the evening hours the department decreased staff to only 2 RN's.   In order to effectively perform this job, I had to be able to anticipate the type of bed the patient would need post-operatively so that I could call the house supervisor and have a bed assigned while the patient was still in surgery.  This was imperative to avoid patients being held in PACU longer than necessary while an appropriate bed was located and assigned to the patient.  I also had to anticipate the medications the patients would need as they were brought out of the OR, so that I had the medication ready to administer to avoid patients experiencing unnecessary discomfort due to lack of preparedness on my part.  I had to work quickly, to keep patients moving through the department so that there was always an empty space in the PACU when a surgery ended and the patient could come straight to recovery without delay.  This had to be conducted in a manner that also kept patients safe.  It was imperative that there was a balance between safety and efficiency, as minor mistakes could result in extremely poor outcomes for patients.
The most enjoyable part of this job was the challenging, fast paced environment.  It required me to continuously use critical thinking to head off potential problems before they occurred and anticipate complications that could occur and take the necessary steps to minimize post-operative complications in patients under my care.  I enjoyed the challenge of caring for patient with numerous comorbid conditions that must be considered in order to provide safe, effective care during the immediate post-operative period.

Worked with Lakeland as a contract Inpatient Coder.  Lakeland’s HIM staff is not qualified nor knowledgeable when it comes to inpatient coding.  Many of the staff members have no coding credentials.  Because the HIM staff is not well versed about coding rules, guidelines, guidance, etc. they give horrible coding advice that often contradicts coding guidance, etc. When correct info is offered to the staff it creates strife and the staff labels the coder(s) difficult.  Instead of the staff being receptive to the correct info, they create conflict which creates an unpleasant work environment.  This also made it difficult to work with the CDI team because they were being given wrong info/training by the HIM department.  Unfortunately, the company I was contracted through mission was to make the customer (Lakeland) happy, therefore things were done Lakeland’s way even if it was wrong.  Due to the stress of working with Lakeland, the company I worked for should offer the coder more money for having to work with them.  I was not compensated enough.  My rating for job work/life balance and job security/advancement is a reflection of the company I worked directly for, not Lakeland.   I would not recommend a new coder work with Lakeland because being given wrong coding info will not help the coder to grow in the right direction.  I would not recommend a seasoned coder work with Lakeland because when you stand for what’s right you will be singled out.  I would not recommend any company contracting your coders to code for Lakeland because your coders’ integrity and your company’s ethical standard(s) will be challenged.  


Management:
Knowledge of the work in the upper leadership needs to be better developed and have better understanding of the departments and their responsibilities. During my 8 years at Employers I worked under 2 C.E.O.'s, 3 Corporate Department Officers, 5 Directors, 3 Mangers and 6 Supervisors all in the same department. So, there was absolutely no stability in leadership or direction of the company during my tenure there.
Due to this instability in leadership, there are multiple leaders in positions that they should not be in (Being promoted into a high leadership position with zero years of experience in that specific field happens a lot here.)

Workplace Culture:
Under current leadership you login, Remote employees work the items that have been preassigned to them for the day then sign off. Team energy is very low in multiple departments, with little to no interactions except for instant messages to other team members for assistance. On-Site employees are usually telephony based, so interactions with your team is very little.
On multiple occasions, the current C.E.O. forgets to acknowledge department accomplishments for the year in regards to multiple departments during the annual gatherings. Being a leader of one of those departments, it’s very demoralizing for the team knowing your department worked a significant amount of Overtime hours and the leaders showed no gratitude.
The company falls behind on work very often in multiple departments and relies on Overtime to just catch up on work. Company is reluctant to bring on the adequate amount of staff even after expanding their appetite and commissions to Agencies or overhauling their systems, so expect to be overworked and overstressed.

Working in outpatient rehab at this facility is incredibly disheartening. Management operates with a clear priority: themselves. There is a complete lack of genuine support, even during high-stress situations involving patient or caregiver crises. You’re left to fend for yourself, no matter how serious the issue.

While the environment may appear ideal at first glance, spending real time here reveals a much harsher reality. Morale among staff is extremely low, and many employees express frustration and disappointment in leadership. The culture is toxic—support is superficial at best, and decisions are often made without regard for staff well-being or patient care. Management makes constant false promises and regularly gaslights employees when issues are brought up, creating a manipulative and dismissive atmosphere.

Caseloads are either overwhelming, with no time to complete documentation properly, or chaotic and disorganized due to poor planning. Management routinely provides last-minute updates on insurance changes they’ve known about for weeks, and there’s a major lack of marketing and communication—both internally and with families. As a result, parent relationships are damaged and trust is lost.

Yes, the pay is decent—but it’s not worth the mental and emotional toll. Proceed with caution.

When I started working at Lakeland, 19 years ago, it was a dream job. I loved doing what I did, was very productive and always learning and growing. Gradually, as the organization grew and more management took over, it became a nightmare. I was not longer in control of my work and personal productivity. This was true, not just in my department, but across the board. My particular job took me into every area of the hospital and I was very familiar with what was happening. The input of employees, with many years of practical experience, began to be disregarded in favor of a tyrannical management culture that is self serving and intimidating. There is a financial crisis at Lakeland, the majority of it due to poor management decisions. As a result, they have been terminating employees in cruel and thoughtless ways, robbing them of dignity, treating them like criminals and stealing their vacation time. I enjoyed working with the vast majority of employees at Lakeland and it saddens me that most of them are now living in fear of losing their jobs.

Upper Management talks a good game, but when push comes to shove, it’s all about the bottom line-money (their bonuses). They don’t listen to staff concerns about pt safety.  If you speak up, you are targeted. Unsafe patient ratios,  ER “overflow” in procedural areas. Patient placement is a joke. RNs are woefully underpaid (by at least $5/hr) Understaffed in most departments. PCAs are worked to death—only 2 per floor most days. Transportation is always understaffed. Pts wait forever (over an hour at times) to be transported to tests and back. Middle management is petty and incompetent and tends to micromanage. What’s sad is that there are excellent nurses and Drs here, and it should be a dream job. Most of the staff cares about their job, as well as their patients,  and are good at what they do, but theres a constant feeling of having to watch your back  and unfortunately, staff is disposable. If not for the union, things would be much worse. If you do get a job here, do yourself a solid and join the union!!

Working for Lakeland Regional Cancer Center had been a valuable experience. I learned a lot. The most enjoyable part of my job was working with the patients and helping them through a difficult time. I did not enjoy the constant push to get more patients through in a shorter time. They were not a number. The Cancer Center lacked personal attention to very sick people. I know the hospital is a business, but sometimes it was difficult to remember that we are dealing with patients and family members who require extra attention in solving a serious health problem.
Management never seemed to back you up, and follow through on procedural changes. That was quite frustrating.
Overall, I would return to the hospital possibly working less hours to cut down on the stress level and provide more balance in my life.

The highlight of my job was working with the doctors and midlevels. Dealing with the outside callers [patients and their family members] was like any other customer service jobs where some are stupid and others are lovely. The floor nurses as a single entity were not good to us or their patients, but some individuals were obviously fine bc they went into nursing to help people not be sour b*tches. The doctors and their midlevels were honestly a delight though, you'd have some that were moody but there were plenty of lovely people in the specialties and departments [like any of the labs or techs, even security management was lovely]. Management I felt like didnt really know what was going on or how to run the show, and while I did not get along with my manager he definitely objectively wanted better for our department and respected my input, so did his manager who also is in charge of the kitchen. even the CEO is nice.
Overall kinda meh once you weigh the good against the annoying. Loved my people though

The job was somewhat flexible.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I saw the boss approximately 3 times during 6 months.  The two ladies left in charge really didn't know the job and did things completely differently from each other.  One would tell me how to do something then the other would ask why I did it that way.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
No one talked to anyone.  If I had to label the environment, it would be toxic.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Arrive at work, the other 2 Physician Recruiters worked from home the majority of the time.  I felt like the company was being taken advantage of most of the time.  I was expected to run errands, keep bags made up for visiting doctors.   Many processes could have been streamlined; however, the two PR's had the attitude of this is how we've always done it.

It was always busy in the hospital pharmacy, I was a floating technician so there-fore I was where ever they needed me to be that day, I knew all departments of the pharmacy as well as the hospital, even taking part in this past years audit for the pharmacy. I enjoyed working around all of my co-workers they all made the place run smooth, I enjoyed the fact that my day would fly by because of how busy I would stay through out the day. The hardest part of the job was the fact I never really knew where I would be or what I would be doing that day, our management team needed better communication skills, but other than that they were great, I learned a lot in my time with the company, i came in only knowing retail pharmacy information, and left with compounding skills, and IV calculations.
