Larkin Community Hospital

As a physician within this hospital, I have been afforded the opportunity to pursue a specialized training position. The attending physicians demonstrate notable competence overall, with few exceptions, and are generally pleasant to collaborate with. Our fellow residents hail from diverse backgrounds and frequently commend the institution's inclusion and diversity policies. Consequently, there is a considerable range in the levels of capability and experience among them. While some exhibit a commendable commitment to teamwork, others display tendencies toward laziness and toxicity.
Regrettably, the salaries and benefits offered to residents are notably inadequate, ranking among the lowest in the nation. Moreover, the facilities suffer from age-related limitations, albeit a significant financial investment is currently underway to enhance technology and services. Despite these efforts, the standard of care provided by the hospital remains subpar compared to other community hospitals in the county.
Similar challenges extend to the nursing staff and ancillary services, who are often underpaid and exhibit lower levels of competency compared to counterparts in other regions. Nevertheless, this issue is prevalent throughout South Florida.
While meals are provided for physicians, the quality consistently falls below expectations. Patient experiences often mirror a sentiment expressed by one individual, who described the medical staff as "amazing doctors," while lamenting the perceived rudeness of the nursing staff and the overall ambiance of the facility. Given these observations, I would hesitate to recommend this hospital for either my own medical care or that of a loved one. Working here would be just for a limited time and for the specific goal at hand of pursuing specialization. 

The whole establishment is for an entry level job. If you have zero experience, they will take you on board. Which leads to, as expected, poor management skills. The administration is a complete joke. No one knows where they stand and there are little to no resources. Human Resources Dir. and the CEO are buddy buddies, therefore, your place there is based on how much they like you. In fact, the whole place is based on favoritism. There’s incompetencies in every corner and the culture is pathetic. If you want to work in a third world country while being in the US, this is the place. I’ve seen times where there hasn’t even been enough linen or syringes to tend to the patients. Administration doesn’t value their employees in the slightest and they’ll look at you with a smile and tell you everything is fine and the next day, you’re out the door because the hospital simply can’t afford to pay you. They owe every single ambulance company, hospital, contract and pharmacy thousands of dollars. Therefore, trust that you will always feel that there is no job security. Either people quit or they fire them for no reason. So, if you want to work the job of 2 or 3 because of the lack of employees and get paid the lowest possible, join their team. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The only good part of my job there was the immediate team. By immediate I mean the people doing the day to day work inside my department, not “leadership” who only stepped in to criticize and make exhausting demands , never recognizing or even acknowledging everyone’s hard work 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The lack of tools and resources to do one’s job. Leadership doesn’t want to invest in operational necessities, leaving the staff working double for lack of the most basic tools

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The company’s culture is to exhaust people , to expect employees to do extra because “they have to”; zero appreciation or even acknowledging people’s hard work. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working without breaks , stress due to the pressure of the immense workload and lack of tools and resources. Frustration because everyone in my department felt like they cannot help customers due to the workload and lack of time for customer service

A typical day at work was very busy, most of the time we help each other and the job was always done on time. I've worked there with foreign doctors who taught me a lot, I was not a nurse at that time and later I realized that everything they taught me , was really helpful in my career. I also learned how to deal with patient placements in nursing homes and ALFs. The director of the department also helped me and I learned a lot from him too. My co-workers were friendly and cooperative , most of them. The hardest part of the job was when I was on call, I had a 7month baby boy when I started working there and when I was on call It was difficult for me attending the calls at 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning but we took turns and that made it easier to tolerate.. What I really enjoyed was everything I've learned as well as  getting to know  people who work for insurance companies, others who worked for transportation companies, ALFs, Nursing Homes, Doctors , nurses, case managers, even physicians from the Federal Department of Correction.

When I 1st started working here I was blind to alot of situations one if them being thinking you can grow and get promoted based of how much and well you worked. The mind set in the place is, if you can do the job of 3 keep them where they are no need to hire more people. In other words "over worked and underpaid". The only way you get promoted is if 
1. You know someone 
2. Your the next one in line based of seniority 
3. Multiple people turned down the job and your name was next on the list. 
Their system is outdated yet wonder why they can't do the things surrounding hospitals can. The nurses are super underpaid at 20 - 25 dollars an hour starting. Administration staff worries more about profits than they do the patients, the doctors and the patients know it. They have a HUGE turn around but administration blames the "quality" of people for that, they don't seem to notice now toxic this place is. 

Larkin School of Nursing a very bad working environment .They give no training or manual to guide you . Every task given is left to figure it out on your own . HR and President are very close friends so it’s based on how they like you personally not working wise . They disrespect you and give  you facial expression with attitude and you have to take it if you want your job. Other staff gets preference in coming in late or leaving early . They say they have open door policy but when you try to talk to them about needing training they refuse to give and nothing gets solved .,they don’t hear you . If you get covid or have any other medical condition that will prevent you from coming to work 1 week they don’t respect that and will blow up your phone so  you can come back asap, knowing your still in pain . 

Larkin has given me the opportunity to learn and increase my experience as a therapist. Larkin outpatient community health has recently increased their management support to staff and is therefore improved with more clear understanding of the various position's job expectations. Larkin has had a difficult time maintaining patient numbers in order to justify staff therefore my position has not been utilized consistently and am looking for more stable work hours. Safety has been a concern due to low patient census therefore less support staff has been available.

This company is not organized at all.  It is majorly under staffed and people are placed in positions without the proper credentials so the company can pay them less and save money, but that creates backlog of work and issues when the person cannot keep up and others have to take up the slack.  
Departments do not communicate with each other so often times the work is doubled.  Marketing tells departments what to do instead of servicing their needs.  HR has you do their work for them like completing FMLA forms which they should be doing themselves with the employee.  Disorganization from the top down. No structure.

Helping staff patients and visitors as they arrive on campus. The opportunity to learn from the healthcare industry in dealing with numerous patients as they visit, A very family oriented organization. The hardest part of the day for me is not been able to help more. I have numerous task that I complete throughout the day CCTV Access control patrolling the campus assist visitors as they arrive on campus.

What is the best part of working at the company?
It is for me the best hospital, the human quality. It is incomparable

I feel very good, there is no stress because we work in team work

spectacular, and very professional

A typical day is a lot of work. but my happy and professional, because we always work in team work
