I enjoyed working at Lawrence general. The people who work in the cafeteria are very friendly. A typical day at work would consist of stocking the fridge with things your patient may need for lunch/breakfast/ oe dinner orders. I would then go to the hospital floor i was assigned to for that day & stock the floors fridge with things they may need for the floor. After that i would start taking lunch orders. Lunch time is busy. we start prepping trays for patients. We then deliver the patient's trays to their rooms on our assigned floor. After patients have eaten & all needs are met. We pick up trays & take dinner orders for patients. By then I do more stocking & my shift is over. Management was very reasonable. They do not like being short handed. Avoid calling out for this job. It messes up all employess & management. The managers were pretty strict on hosts who did not follow rules or procedures. You have to follow many procedures as you are dealing with hospital patients. The hardest part of this job was learning what a patient can't & can have in an order. You have to be very careful. You get the hang of it eventually. The most enjoyable part of the job was learning new things & figuring out how to do your best with the job.

Get your assignment, receive bedside report, do your assessments, document findings,do discharges when approriate, do admissions when approriate, takes off orders, look up lab work, medicate as ordered,do hourly rounding, assess patient everytime you entered the room, treatments, dsg changes,etc, educate as needed,document.

Learning of different cultures, and different ways of doing things and time management.

Management does not stand behind their nurses. If a problem arose, the nurse was always to blame. There is a big problem with some levels of management and "clicks".

Most co-workers were awesome. We would work as a team when possible. If one was having a bad day or assignment, we would try to ease the load and help out.

The hardest part of the job was  having a really tough assigned and having others just sitting around talking or on their phones/ipads, etc.

The most enjoyable part of my job was my interactions with my patients and their families and my colleagues. Taking the time to spend with that one patient who just needs someone to talk to, or who needs a hug or a hand to hold.

Prepared food items consistently and in compliance with recipes, portioning, cooking and waste
control guidelines.
Verified proper portion sizes and consistently attained high food quality standards.
Maintained smooth and timely operations in preparation and delivery of meals and kitchen sanitation.
Properly labeled and stored all raw food ingredients including produce, meat, fish, poultry, dairy and dry
goods in the appropriate storage room, walk-in refrigerator, freezer or cooler.
Changed and sanitized all cutting boards, benches and surfaces when beginning a new task to avoid
cross-contamination.
Cooked and served food and meals in accordance with planned menus, diet plans, recipes, portions,
temperature control procedures and facility policies.
Practiced safe food handling procedures at all times.
Promptly reported any maintenance and repair issues to Executive Chef.

Every day offers a variety of different specialties to transcribe, the opportunity to broaden my knowledge of techniques, infection control, surgical procedures and equipment etc. enabling me to further improve turn around time.

Management is cooperative and willing to listen to issues.

the hardest part of the job is getting to understand different accents, it is a skill I have developed over the past ten years. 

I do like working at home.  The home office has less distractions and more productivity.  However, there is a definite benefit to working in an office, another opinion on a word or sentence is always useful.  Right now we use Skype and DocQ to listen when requested.

I worked there for about two years starting at the age of 19. I started as a cashier and everything was fine. But I wasn’t aware I wasn’t a full time employee. Working 40 hours a week every week for 9 months. But not receiving benefits of a full time employee. I worked In the cafeteria. Which was always short staffed. I was constantly moved around doing multiple positions a day. Not receiving a thank you. I would come in on weekends to work 12 hrs for a host position, Just so I could get a vacation. To get time off is very difficult. The supervisors have favoritism. The employees are immature. People that are much older than me would like to get into arguments if I wasn’t doing my job to their standard. I barely ever saw my manager. Was always in his office. No team work. No one helps you. Toxic environment always arguing and fighting and drama everyday. But the only part of the job I like was my 3 friends. And the patients. 

Everyone at Lawrence Hospital is very welcoming and kind. When I come in everyone is always in a good mood. The atmosphere is relaxed and sometimes tense depending on how many patients you have that day. Management tries very hard to here any concerns we may have and deal with them very efficiently. The hardest part of the job would have to be dealing with on occasion with ruddiness from people who think the Kitchen is their just to serve them and every single thing they want. Which is not the case and many people seem to forget their there to get better; not on vacation! People need to realize theres more things that we have to do then just what you are seeing.

I am currently the night time supervisor at Lawrence General Hospital. I resolve customer complaints regarding food service. I am also able to train employees in food preparation, and in service, sanitation, and safety procedures. Some of my other duties included observing and evaluating employees and work procedures to ensure quality standards and service, and completing disciplinary write-ups. I assign duties, responsibilities, and work stations to employees in accordance with work requirements, providing employee orientation and training, and conducting supervisory activities, such as creating work schedules or organizing employee time off sheets. I also perform financial activities such as cash handling and deposit preparation.

I work on the telemetry floor. Extremely busy floor with lots of movement between discharges, admissions, and transfers to make room for more admissions. Great floor to learn about so many different things. In many ways, it's a step down unit. The floor has a difficult time holding onto managers, and when we do have one, there is a line of staff outside the door all day complaining about various aspects of work or each other.  

What is the best part of working at the company?
Compensation first; easy commute second. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The language barrier can be difficult, especially on the evening and  night shifts when interpreters aren’t readily available.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There is a strong union mentality. Seniority reigns, and can leave newcomers feeling discouraged. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical night (in my case) varies. Some nights are very slow, and we are required to help other units (within our scope). Others are wild. My unit’s team is incredibly supportive of one another.

Staff RN for maternity/nursery unit.  Working with other RN's who are passionate about the care of their patients with teamwork, high level of knowledge and experience.  Management is reasonable but unfortunately no accountability for the changes they have imposed in the past and have been unwilling to listen to concerns.  Assignments are fair.  Patient population is multicultural and include many socioeconomic classes.  Enjoy learning new medical information from interns at this teaching hospital.
