Lazard

Lazard is a world-class investment bank with a great New York office, located at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The rapport between bankers and the documents department (Presentation Center) is a good one; coordinated, friendly, efficient.

I had five great years there until the downsizing. One thing about proofing: the buck stops with you. Everyone else can make mistakes, but not the proofer. Co-workers were very smart, artistic, and helpful. I learned quite a bit about the bonds market.

It can be a great place to network with other professionals. Most of the new analysts are happy for 6-12 mos. and then they're all looking for a hedge fund or other similar firm to work at. They take their signing bonuses, whatever Apple devices the firm handed out, and run. Management runs the gamut from indifferent to abusive. Sometimes good executives can be found but it's very rare. There isn't a lot of tolerance for anyone who speaks or looks different from mainstream American society.

My experience at Lazard was very satisfactory. Worked with various departments within the company and with contractors, furniture dealers, vendors and tradesmen. 
Was able to travel international and domestically to work on new office builds in other cities.
Met many great people along the way.

I am amazed that a firm with their visibility and entree to major customers could badly miss opportunities to lever their capital markets business (especially on debt side). They were prohibited from trading/selling municipal debt due to "pay for play" issues and were involved in the Fidelity equity desk scandal. While loose management may be conducive to entrepreneurial goals these guys were asleep at the switch.

Very busy work place, international calls in the morning.
Because Lazard is a private bank, with many offices around the
world. Every day is very different, between incoming and outgoing
calls. Also interoffice calls with over 50 departments in the New York
City office alone. I did enjoy my job the hardest part was leaving
due to downsizing.

Lazard has a very quirky culture, but there is a lot of opportunity to succeed if one is driven.  You will expect to work the stereotypical 120 hours per week (they are not kidding about that), but you will learn more than you would anywhere else.

The pay is slightly below street, but the transfer opportunities are unlimited.

Lazard is a global advisory firm with an amazing network of bankers and senior advisors.  My experience at Lazard was excellent.  However, the firm has difficulty developing junior talent into senior bankers and many refer to the "Director ceiling" as many bankers are promoted through the ranks to senior Director level roles and then are let go due to lack of opportunity for advancement.

i did the job from home with other students from my school as well as needing to show my face on camera all the time , wear appropriate clothes as well as needing to work in group teams and together , monday through thursday job 9am-12pm and good pay as well.

Lazard recruited me out of Northwestern and I was able to gain tremendous deal experience (evaluating companies, due diligence, full execution through closing).  Worked with an amazing team of senior bankers / mentors who helped position me for my career going forward.
