My overall experience at Leeds West, Automotive Service Experts (ASE), Midas, was very poor. I was led to believe it was an extremely busy shop but soon learned it was not. Soon heard of a very poor reputation of making upset customers.  I believed after being hired we as a team could change that stigma but it seems to be impossible with upper management constantly pushing GP and getting every dollar out of customers. I’ve had several managers get fired for not pushing sales enough only within a couple years. Had to leave this environment as it left me feeling guilty and awful inside.
Besides that hours and pay are poor in my opinion, 7:30 - 6 Mon - Sat with Sundays off and one day off in the week. In my case it was impossible to meet commission goals as there was not enough cars so the pay was a bit above minimum wage. 

This company management is a joke! They interviewed and hired me knowing my automotive background. I was there about 3 weeks when they had me covering other stores due to loss of Managers. I also was conveniently located near 4 locations so i became the contact for the alarm company when alarms were triggered. I was running a location that had been losing profit for some time with no techs that could even do the work. 1 of the techs took an hour for an oil change! This same tech damaged 2 customer cars as well. I was being paid assistant manager pay but doing the manager job and was told they would teach me what I needed to know because I was ready for my own store. The entire time they had hired someone else to replace me and waited until he was trained the proper way then let me go. How shady

Management is a joke. Low pay, long hours, no help, micro managed, ridiculous goals by management to take advantage of every customer that walks. Expect angry customers daily due to the constant pressure to rip off everyone. You’ll work Christmas and New Years despite not seeing a customer. Executive team is in Colorado and are impossible to get any help from, all they care about is how many dollars you made today. Leadership has total disregard for customer retention, brand building and providing value to customers. 

There’s a reason why they don’t put Leeds West on their stores, they survive off of the already existing brands of their stores and offer nothing of value to the customers or the employees. NEVER take your car to a Midas.

This company sucks. tight fisted and only care about making money for themselves by HOOK OR CROOK. The peoria location is not the place you want to work. The manager and other tech are best buddies and you get the work he does not want. 45-50 hrs a week at $8-12 per hour sucks.you get $32-36 per hour after making $2000 in sales. many weeks of no Breakout. the equipment is broke or barely works and the CHEAP  company wont spend a dime to fix or get new. filthy and a lot of people with no money. their labor and parts prices and very high and scare most away. This company believes in FREE. you test a/c, charging systems, 80pt brake check and scan checks for FREE. every car gets a FREE visual inspection. the manager will do his best to get the car in the shop for FREE. GOOD LUCK

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
They claim “never work a Sunday”, but they don’t mention that you’re required to work a full day 730a - 6p every single Saturday. Makes it impossible to do family things, get to kids sports, etc, all things that normally happen on Saturdays.  Also, management from the top pushes GP, even if that means doing subpar work with substandard parts. Selling unnecessary services (ie, struts on every car that comes in).  Also, coupons and part warranty work all come out of technician pay as their pay is a percentage of total gross sales after discounts are applied.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful.

I have been with Midas for over 20 years. Things change over time and smart companies will modify things to keep up with the times.

If you are looking for an opportunity to grow and advance in a career, give us a try. No company is perfect, but the best companies will give you returns on your investments.  

They won't get rid of the one person that causes all the issues. They appoint super young and inexperienced managers. They play favorites with certain technicians. They will give you a run around when you ask for something that will help you learn more or be more productive. The district manager will talk badly about you when you aren't around.  The managers and other employees show no respect and question every thing you do. The COO is by far the best in the company but he has alot that goes on with out his knowledge.  

Great place to learn the basics in automotive. Would recommend as a starting job to anyone interested in the trade. Often the hardest part of the job is the lack of support at the tire technician position. The turnover rate is high and tire techs are usually understaffed, as result they are overworked and underpaid. The pay is low already(it is the entry level position) but additional work load adds to the stress and can diminish any benefits found with working there.

In the 4 months I worked there I was only able to have a handful of breaks and was never payed overtime as an hourly employee. Staying later than scheduled, coming in on your day off to help out, helping in the back because you’re short handed will get you know where, not even a thank you. We were constantly short handed my manager was no help and I was constantly picking up the slack. Upper management was no help either. Management and upper management can not be trusted. Be aware 

A day at LWG is very fast-paced, but rewarding. If you are looking to expand on your talents and have a desire to move up, there are no limits to where or how high you can climb in this company. There are many opportunities for advancement and it is an organization that believes in hiring from within. The first thing anyone will notice about LWG is the culture, a true family environment where all departments work well together, work hard together, and have fun together.
