I've worked for this company for a year. Within that year I've seen a lot. Number 1 insurance benefits are very high. Management is rude.  they only look out for themselves. Staffing is always short. Nurses including LPNs and CNAs have to work 16-hour shifts if they don't they're short.  At the end of the shift sometimes you don't have coverage so you end up having to stay over.( It's not a choice). When you have PTO time you can't use it because she won't approve it. So you accumulate a lot but you never can use it. Can make you cash it out  at the end of the year . But still no vacation. They don't care if you have a family. If you're sick she'll tell you to take something and come on in. If you're hurt they don't support you.. They still want you to work. The turnover rate for nurses is very high but she will tell you in your interview that it's not. People have been there for 10 years plus and not making enough to survive. They will use you until they can't use you anymore and then fire you. By working 16 hour shifts but you're only scheduled for 8.. when you call in because she's sick or tired they won't accept it. A terrible place to work. The only time the employees actually seems some benefit is when the DHEC was expected and they didn't want us to mention anything to them. ( modern day slavery) don't let the name fool you. They have nothing to do with Lexington hospital. Not even the pay. And no you can not transfer over.

My unit was good to work in because most of my coworkers were helpful and there was great teamwork.  The physicians overall were pleasant to work with and most didn't have attitude problems. 
 Even with that, we still had high turnover.

Some other departments were awful to work in and had very high turnover along with miserable employees.  Those departments weren't always nice to deal with.  Because of the need for adequate staffing I felt that some of those departments kept employees that would have been fired elsewhere.

LMC is a good hospital to start out at and work for a few years before moving on to a larger level 1 trauma center in another city.

A typical day at work for me started at 8am. When I first arrive at work I would review the schedule, which usually had on average 35 patients a day on it. I would start by bringing back one patient at a time. I would take their vital signs, go over their chief complaint, and review all their meds. Depending what they are there for, I would try to have what ever needed to be done for the patient before the provider would see them such as: flu, strep, urine test, EKG's, immunizations, injections, or have the procedure room set up if needed. Between bringing back the patients I would take multiple messages of the voicemail and send those messages to whom they need to go to. I would refill prescriptions, do emergent referrals, and call back any patient that needed a call back. I loved the work I did, and the patients that I took care of. It would make me feel so happy when the patient smiled when they saw me or were so thankful for something I had done for them. I also enjoyed working with the provider. The hardest part of the job is that there was to much work for one person, and even though I would voice my frustration or let management know it was interfering with patient care, no changes were made. I just feel that it is time for me to work in a new enviroment

Do your homework. This organization is laying off people without any notice and they are only hiring if a position is an absolute must. They will not give loyal employees honest answers and have misinformed hard working people that trusted them. LMC has gotten way too far in over their head by purchasing too many practices and investing in new ventures that they can't afford to run. Management throughout the LMC Network has held meetings telling their employee's that because of the investments they've made, expenses are coming in and the revenue isn't, therefore cut backs are necessary. You should expect longer wait times. They spend money like they own the Federal reserve! But rest assured Management will get their bonuses and annual raises!
 I speak from experience and disappointment at the same time. I personally expected better from Lexington Medical Center. I have family that helped start Lexington Medical Center years ago when it was a small town hospital called Lexington County Hospital, that cared about employees.
They want people to believe that health care reform is the problem, but Greed is the real issue!!! The truth will surface.
They are the most expensive Hospital in the midlands.

 I hope the employee's that were done wrong will find a better employer to work for.

What is the best part of working at the company?
My coworkers, supervisor, the doctors, my entire department. We were like a family. They are such an amazing group of people. There are no corners cut when it comes to patient care. We all took it very seriously and because we were all working towards the same goal it made us an excellent team. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The early hours were the hardest part. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The people were friendly, knowledgeable about their the areas in which they worked and happy to help. The pathologist were great to work with and treated everyone with respect. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Come in the morning cheerful banter with my coworkers as we prepare the work for the day. Every 30 minutes someone else arrives in our step schedule. We get the initial H&E slides and preordered stain out to the pathologist and do the stains they order as they come in. Lunch we’re all happy to have moment to laugh and talk while we enjoy out meal. We finish up the orders that can be done for the day, cut controls and and do other things to prepare different areas while we wait for the stains. Give out the slides clean the lab and leave everything ready for the next day.

A typical day at work: cleaning the entire floor mostly by yourself. Some towers have others to help. Mainly under staffed due to “Budget.”

What you believed you learned: NOTHING

Management: makes rules that fit for the better of the scores not the employees. Like to have meetings to tell you that you’re doing good or bad but needs to do better. Adds and subtracts rules CONSTANTLY. 

Workplace Culture: some people respect you and the work. Most of them act as if you’re in the way. Management doesn’t care and rest of the staff follows.  Treat you as if you’re just THE HELP. 

Hardest part of the job: given tasks that is almost impossible to do about while some in leadership positions harass employees to make sure everything is done instead of implementing better strategies to help improve productivity and employee happiness. FAVORITISM AT ITS FINEST WITH CERTAIN WORKERS. Don’t try to transfer because you will be blocked. 

The most enjoyable part of the job: meeting patients and making them comfortable, helping as you can through their time there.

As Manager for the Guest Services Department, I know that as a patient focused team of 20 employees, that we can accomplish our goals with support throughout the organization. Our challenges for the Guest Services Department are to assure that we assist our administrative areas with positive resolution when possible, and to constantly assure that we have a win-win situation for our patients and the hospital. The most challenging part of my position is to assure that we can address the Center of Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS)Grievance/Complaint process in our complaint management. At the end of my day, I can rest assured that we do what is right for our patients and that my next day will be as challenging and beneficial for our patients and for our organization.

I feel overwhelmed by everything that has been thrown at me in addition to learning a new system (EPIC), the phone rings non-stop and it is difficult to find available appointments for patients sometimes that need to be seen right away.  I would like it if I felt that I was providing good customer service but I have only been on the job for 3 weeks and I'm not there yet.  I also have to work this thing called the Referral Queque which is very challenging in addition to checking patients in and out and making appointments.  I also have to scan medical records which can be a large pile on some days.  They did train me on the system for 3 days during orientation but it is still a daily chore to figure out on a daily basis.  But maybe I am just not the right person for this position (Business Office Associate).  I also have no benefits and low pay ($14 an hour) although they told me there is the possibility of getting a permanent job offer.  I am currently putting in applications at other companies

What is the best part of working at the company?
Day one insurance is nice. That's about it.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management is a joke. They leave when it's tune for them to get off regardless if that leaves you short handed. They can not for the life of them make a schedule that had us fully covered despite being fully staffed. They have a "do as I say, bot as I do" attitude. Then there's the pay. They get paid A LOT more then us gruts but it's the gruts that do all the work. NEUC is a great place but the Registration staff is sorely under paid and taken advantage of.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
When NEUC management isn't working then the environment is actually a lot of fun. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Over worked and under paid. Sorely under paid to the point that I have to work 60+ hours to pay bills. However there's one manager who constantly takes takes away hours. It's a constant battle to pay bills while working here.

The pay for this job title truthfully cannot be beat and the benefits are great! They reel you in at your interview though, everyone is so nice and they seem so accommodating and as if they are willing to work with you, and they are for the first few weeks. After your honeymoon phase don’t expect much unless you are a favorite, and by favorite I mean someone that likes to talk about other coworkers to upper management in order to make themselves look better or keep the attention away from them. If you aren’t a favorite it’s hard to get time off, don’t ever expect to get off on time as they are constantly understaffed, and if you make one tiny mistake be prepared to be watched frequently in the observation booths until they find a new target. It’s a fantastic place for your kids and you if you can stomach the anxiety that comes from the unknown attitude that can be thrown your away depending on managements mood.
