I have worked at Wesley Glen for over a year now.  I am in love with my residents as try to understand the difficulty of no longer being independent.  My co-workers and I all work hard on a daily basis as well as helping each other out if someone is having a rough time by picking up their slack.  Our job is very demanding and physically stressful but having a strong work team makes the work day go by with ease.

A typical day at work starts with a 7 am meeting to go over diet changes for residents, daily menu, and special issues.  After the meeting all the diet aides separate to their assigned satellite kitchens.  We set up the kitchen for service and provide assistance to the residents as needed.  After the residents are done eating we prepare the dining room and kitchen for the next meal.  Typically the morning crew works Breakfast and Lunch.  

I have learned more about specific diet types and what each type are encouraged to consume and what they should typically avoid..  Communication is also a key player at Wesley Glen and I work hard to participate in that flow.  I often relay residents needs or concerns to the on-staff dietitians or supervisors to increase a resident's satisfaction as well as solving many of their concerns myself.  I have learned how to be a solid team player as well someone who works independently.  Time management plays an important role at my job as we must complete all of our duties within a very specific time window and must be able to do this with little or no supervision.

The hardest part of my job is dealing with residents or their family members who do not wish to follow the resident's prescribed diet.  In this case, I try to come to a mutual consensus as to what is appropriate or not.  Understandably, this can lead to residents or their family members becoming upset and when it does happen, I keep a positive attitude and alleviate the situation as best I can.  If I cannot do this, I relay the problem to a supervisor or dietitian.  

The absolute most enjoyable part of my job is seeing my residents get excited when they see me.  I just love my residents and I care about them deeply.  Their well-being and overall health is of much importance to me.  

Management is fairly helpful when needed but tend to take a backseat on most issues.  As Diet Aides we solve a lot of issues on our own until we have a chance to relay the information to the next tier.

I do admissions, care planning, MDS, and discharge planning. I also work with families in crisis who are caring for an elderly or disabled loved one, troubleshooting and soothing. I facilitate a caregiver support group, and do mental health counseling. The growth I have experienced over the time at this workplace has been so valuable. I had never worked in this setting, and I had to learn quickly and well in order to accommodate those in skilled rehabilitation. There have been a lot of changes in administration and management within the past several months. I have learned to be malleable and work well with different personalities and values of those in charge. My co-workers are wonderful people. Most of them are willing to go an extra mile to help those in need. The hardest part of the job is seeing people lose their independence and a sense of control over their own lives. The most enjoyable part is learning from and laughing with the residents. They are indescribably interesting and each one is unique! The most rewarding part of my job is finding a path to meet the needs of someone who was at a roadblock in their life. Entitlements, a new place to live, or even something as simple as a new motorized w/c for mobility are good examples. I love my job, my field, and those with whom I have contact in the workplace.

On any given day I would have on average 13 residents. It was my duty to ensure the safety and overall well being of every resident.  This would include:  washing, dressing, grooming, feeding, ambulating, and providing emotional support.  The hardest part of my job is having to break bonds with the residents when they have reached the end of their lives.  Friendships developed as a result of my interaction with the residents and breaking those ties can be difficult at times.  However, I work with a wonderful staff that put as much of their hearts into their work as I do.  My co-workers make the toughest days easier to face.  We are all a support system for each other not only in terms of resident care, but emotional support as well.  The most enjoyable part of my job is putting smiles on the residents' faces and making them feel secure.

A fun, challenging workplace where you can learn new skills, and improve job performance.  Working here not only provides opportunities to learn more about our customers (residents), but a chance to learn more about oneself.  Management is very supportive, and genuinely cares about its employees.  It's a very diverse culture, which allows for folks with many different interests, skills, talents, and needs to work together.  The most challenging part is retaining staff, but you get that everywhere these days.  The most enjoyable part is seeing the wonderful smiles on the residents faces, knowing you are making a difference in their everyday lives!

It is a mission driven not-for-profit with great moral values at its core while also being run more professionally than most non-profits.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
It has grown fast, which can put a lot of extra pressure on existing teams, along with the need to keep staffing up, which is a challenge in all of healthcare.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very collaborative! And, staff at all levels are very motivated to do what’s right for the residents. Many colleagues have been able to grow their careers here.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Lots of project management, remote/video meetings and responding to questions/issues/emails.

Concord Reserve is a nice, clean facility. Working on the skilled unit has taught me a few things about rehabilitation nursing. The short staff is a constant problem and most days I feel more like a secretary than a nurse. Overall the company is nice to work for and management is helpful & readily available. Growing as a nurse I’m definitely lacking on learning skills and developing a good sense of nursing judgment. I enjoy the environment with the residents and nursing aides are very helpful. They have an amazing PT/OT team. I believe I will always work for this company wether it be full time or prn. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The residents in my opinion were the best part of working at Wesley Ridge. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The constant need to try to please certain people in the company. Some of the staff and management are very racist and this has always been a constant complaint. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Management stays a certain race while aides and some nurses are diverse. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The work environment is typically really busy and constant walking through the large campus is very tedious on some days for the things you may need on certain units that aren't available.

Really awesome place to work. Not just in the hospice, but also in the long term care facilities. Any nurse or aide you speak with always has something positive to say. I've never worked anywhere before where I was treated with so much respect as a person. The supervisors actually care about the employees, and actively try to make things better for them. If you're overwhelmed, someone will always step in and help. The only negative thing I could possibly say is that the benefits are not good. Kind of surprising and disappointing for a company this size. Overall tho, a great place to work.

No support for staff that is going above and beyond for five years. Stringing you along with no hope of ever being thanked or realized. Having to get donations from families because management wont pay for necessities. Poor activities department is one worker for 90 residents. No career advancement hope. No transparency. No trust and constant interference from HR. HR does whatever they want without consequence. No support for suffering employees or honesty from this company. It's all about money in the end. All departments are suffering except for the higher ones and no one cares. 

I hate to review a place that provided me employment and sounds negative but Wesley Glen was very poorly managed, the few staff members that really worked hard were never rewarded but instead chastised and had higher expectations of them.  Their attendance policies were so tight that often you had people who were physically ill working in the food sector even with the knowledge of the managerial staff. We were working with immunocompromised persons. 

I would not suggest working here - pay is abysmal and the benefits are very shabby.  VERY high turnover rate.
