Not given proper support from coworkers, messy systems.  Made big mistakes employed here,  that were avoided in previous agencies because of experienced and supportive coworkers.  Thrown into extremely challenging situations, that could have only been properly handed by experienced nurse, not an entry level position for little pay. Huge liability for individuals welfare for such little pay. Moved into different classroom after I couldn't handle it, and they hired full time nurse and permanent manager.  As soon as their was a note of stability, they moved me.  note that my coworkers in this room were rotating room managers, and every day was a new plan for a very demanding environment, and I had expressed my struggle with anxiety upon being hired.  My main coworker also struggled from anxiety and was not able to give me strong directions. Really felt like management  didn't listen to you as a person, which is ironic to the purpose of the job. When starting in a different classroom I was ignored by management, not given any responsibilities, waited  weeks for specific training. Gave up, feeling like they were trying to get rid of me, went to another program, and made mistakes that put me on unpaid leave.  Could have been avoided if someone else had took more than a second to support me to adjust into role.  Very diverse coworkers made communication difficult, lack of strong leadership.  So many organizational issues need to be strengthed.  

My experience working at Lifetime Assistance was disappointing and frustrating.

One of my biggest concerns was the lack of professionalism among management. Personal employee matters were often discussed with individuals who had no need to know that information. There also appeared to be significant favoritism within the organization, which created an unfair work environment.

Many employees work long hours, including double and triple shifts, yet often feel undervalued and treated as though they are simply filling a staffing need rather than being respected members of the team. When support was needed, management was frequently unavailable or unwilling to assist, and employees were sometimes met with dismissive attitudes when asking for help.

I was also troubled by the way some managers spoke about residents and coworkers, at times within earshot of residents. Additionally, I witnessed situations where residents’ life plans did not appear to be consistently followed.

My greatest concern involves the way my employment ended. After requesting a driving accommodation through Human Resources, I followed every step that was asked of me. I provided documentation, maintained communication, and participated fully in the process. I was initially led to believe that alternative positions were available and was encouraged to apply. However, when I attempted to do so, those positions were no longer available.

After nearly two months of discussions and paperwork, I was terminated for “misconduct.” 

A typical work day was greeting each individual as they entered the building assisting them as they worked on their daily goals, assisting them when needed, in getting ready to go out into the community for their volunteer jobs. Transporting them to their volunteer jobs, monitoring, role modeling and providing assistance when need to do the job successfully.
Eating lunch with the individuals and assisting them in finishing their goals for the day. Saying good by to each individual as they left to go home. Entering each goal the individual worked on for the day, what job they went to and the outcome of their work while at the job in the data base. After all the individuals were gone, sanitize all tables and chairs.  1 or 2 days a week transport 2 individuals home. 

I learned it's very important to integrate individuals with Special needs into the community.

Management (Supervisors) needed to get out into the community with the individuals every known and than to really learn what they could and could not do.

My co-workers, once they learned the individuals they were ok. this job was all about the individuals and their needs

The hardest part of the job was when there was very little or no communication from the management (Supervisor) to the Direct Support Professionals.  

The most enjoyable part of the job was when an individual achieved a goal or accomplished a task that they thought they couldn't do.

You begin at Lifetime where classes of orientation are offered with excellent instructors and a feeling of being part of the agency.  After,  you walk into a Residential house where they are short staffed and the agency welcome is not offered to you.  You wonder do they really need help by the unfriendly atmosphere?  The training of the specific house is in great need of attention concerning people living at the house, routine, paperwork, fire drills, etc.  Management at the house do not want to be called if they are off, and have specific rules on when you can call the NOC and AOC.  Management needs work on communicating with DSP’s.  Way to many Chiefs and a little amount of Indians at Residential.  PTO is good if you can get the shift covered.  The schedule you are given when hired can be changed at any time!  You were not hired for the schedule you are hired for Lifetimes need to cover the house.  Management dictates the life of the DSP’s with no input, suggestions listened to or offers on how to improve working conditions.  Management sits in the office all the time hardly ever getting up and will have DSP’s get things for them?  Improvement would be DSP’s have the ability to complete agency forms on a computer instead of hand writing everything.  A look at long time Management and the style they offer to workers.  Negative atmosphere never praise or acknowledgement of good work.  

This is a nice place to work, residential environments are nice. The agency as a whole employes some pretty nice people.  Paid training is excellent, the agency supports its mission statement 100%. Tuition reimbursment is available, 50% in a like field, after a year of being employed, but you have to put the money upfront first. Direct care staff are underpaid but provide quality services because they truly seem to care about the people. Pay is ok but not enough to get by on if you have a family and especially if you are a single parent. Clinicians and those with four year degrees plus, are given more opportunities for growth. and higher pay. Diversity in the workplace is prevelant but not celebrated. Management is hot and cold, its difficult to understand some personalities or determine if they can offer enough supports to their staff. While other managers nurture their staff and assure for a nice work environment. Earning paid time off is easy but using it is another story, you are expected to find your own coverage which often times makes using your time off very stressful if no one is willing to cover. Getting off for more than one week is unheard of even when you have plenty of paid time off to cover your leave.

I worked for Lifetime Assistance for 2 years and I feel that the management is excellent. They are understanding and compassionate. After having my job for only 3 months, I broke my ankle, they were helpful and understanding about the time I was to be out due to surgery and medical appointments. I was out of work for 3 months and I had no fear that I would lose my job. They walked me through the FML process and ensured that I dotted all my I's and crossed all my T's. I recommend working for them as they are very friendly and helpful. 
Another plus is that they like to hire within the agency. I really like that they focus on their employees.

I started work at 6:30 am to get individuals ready for their day at a program for people with disabilities. Then I would work on Habilitator tasks. This involved self care data collection,processing, and the correction of missing data. Sometimes help take individuals on medical appointment and/or recreational events. Management was very encouraging and motivating. They gave me the freedom to develop some of my own ideas.The coworkers I worked with generally were very team oriented. Everyone helping each other out. The hardest part of the job was dealing with some the unpredictable violent behaviors or medical issues. The most enjoyable part of the job,were the outings with individuals. Also the paid time off was also an incredible bonus.

A typical day would be data entry, filing, making phone calls, taking care of co workers questions and concerns regarding work related situations in different departments of the Agency. Was in charge of all procedures of  check run for approximately 200 checks per week.
 Learned to be more detailed in my work, The hardest part of my job I would say was to make sure the purchase orders were complete to enter in the system.  Sometimes there was paper work not quit finished so I had to complete the purchase order as needed. Not that it was hard, it was more of a challenge which is what I love to do  I loved seeing the residents come in to the business office.They are happy and appreciate life. I miss working with them. They are exceptional people.

My typical day. I go in and I am either doing medications or picking our people up from program or prepping dinner. 
Our consumers come home from program-work and they relax like we do and prepare for the evening. We assist them with the everyday living skills. This may entail having a shower or changing into the leisure wear, which then follows the Ellen D show. This is a favorite show everyday as well as family feud. Our consumers also like to go on outings, such as too Good Will and five below. Our consumers like to eat their meals in shifts and family style. Family style is where we all sit down and serve ourselves with assistance from staff. Sometimes people get heated up when they are or are having a not so ok day and they need a little reassurance from staff. Otherwise the days are good.

The job itself is fairly straight forward. The problems exist in the company's treatment of their employees. Many feel taken advantage of or treated unfairly, especially in regards to salary. This has partly to do with practically no prerequisites when it comes to people they hire. A high school diploma and a fairly clean background check is all it takes to be hired, this leads to people being hired that have a poor attitude towards being a team and working as a team and many have a "high school" mentality when it comes to gossip and grudges. Management does the best they can with the employees they have but still come up short in communication and scheduling. The hardest part of the job is not actually what the job entails, but rather who you have to work with and pick up the slack for.
