This place is unbelievable. I’ve never seen people as happy as they are here. Management is amazing . They really do care about their employees and our happiness. Ever since my first interview I was so happy to even meet my boss. His genuinely personality made me want this job even more before even knowing what I was getting myself into.  You ever meet anyone and they ask you if you love your job and without a hesitation you say Yes !!!because the environment makes you so happy?! Well this place did that for me. I really hope this place continues to flourish because their isn’t many people like the CEO,CFO,or the director. They are genuinely welcoming and that’s the kind of leaders you need in a workplace.

They pay you 15/hr and other IFT companies pay people a minimum of 18 per hour. 

Everyone here is like high schoolers, always spreading gossip and starting rumors about other employees. 

The dispatchers play favorites with their EMTs and will make your shift miserable if they don't like you. The lifting requirement is that they take a patient up to 499lbs. I have the email to prove that as well. 

They didn't have experienced EMTs to get promoted as FTOs and just promoted random people for the role. This lead to improper EMT training and improper EMT habits that I picked up. I hated working for this company. 

DONT WORK HERE 

Low pay is the biggest issue, which is below average. As of Nov 2024, expect to earn $17.63 base rate as a new EMT, although with built-in overtime on a 12h shift that becomes $20.57 average. With unlimited overtime you can work lots if you need to.

Apart from pay, most everything else here is better than I believe the average IFT ambulance company is. Very flexible part time agreement, although you get no benefits unless you're full time. Part timers pick their own schedule. Opportunities to work ALS, CCT, special events standby, and very occasional strike team deployments. I love working at LIFEwest but will leave for a higher paying job.

Busy CCT calls getting coverage 24 he

Supportive and positive culture 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
12 hr shift anywhere from 1 call to 4 critical care transports per shift.  Ventilators, hemodynamic drips, etc.

Management honestly sucks, there’s never a fun work environment, ever one is toxic, you there’s a problem with some one you work with nobody cares, you’re pretty much in your own, everyone thinks they are better than you and honestly the stress is not worth the pocket change

  The long distance transfers

Very inviting and fun. When they say it is like a family, they’re not lying

Get there, check the rig and take the first call

LIFEwest offers a great opportunity as a stepping stone in your EMS career. Flexible hours, awesome coworkers, and excellent communication with management makes this job recommendable. However, some members of management can play favorites, which leads to unfair treatment of employees. Additionally pay is fairly low for an EMT in California, which can be difficult to live off of, even if you are full time.

The training could be better but regardless, it's a great opportunity to learn about how IFT works and how the pre-hospital system works as well. For any kind of job, you really have to learn as you go. I guess the experience you get out of not just this company but also this job in general depends on how you decide to approach the role you play in the healthcare field. 

Autonomy. Great work culture. Get out of it what you put in. Put in the work. Do as expected and you won’t have problems. Staff are great. If you have questions ask straight away so you won’t be surprised what your getting into. Not great benefits. Pay is average. Lots of overtime available. 

If you want experience go for it but you will be overworked, underpaid and not trained correctly. Supervisors are rude or lazy. Everyone is pretty much burned out. Not worth the headache.
