This is an entry level job but there is room for growth within the company and the UHS community.  This job offers negotiable pay and great benefits for an entry level job in the medical field. The MHT position should not be treated as a career job but as a foot in the door.  Besides this being an experience booster the residents you serve are diverse and great to work with.  You must, however, be a caring and compassionate person.  Mental health care is not for someone just needing a job.  It's for people that want to be apart of a team to provide therapeutic, positive light to help enhance the health of those who need a little extra assistance.

interact with residents
document on residents
report to RNs and supervisors 
keep mal adaptive behaviors at bay 
lead residents through daily activities
depending on your assigned unit, you may have to help with admissions, discharges, and appointments which include administrative work and/or transportation 
report to next shift

Lighthouse is always understaffed. The patients are bad and they are taking worse ones. There are no consequences for assaulting staff or unacceptable behaviors. The MHTs are not part of the nursing team and go against what the nurses ask or tell them. They have no consequences either. There are "code" situations and the nurse never knows - protect your license. 

Management is a joke. They do not help out when nurses are short. They just keep trying to bribe you to come in and work more. The culture is a cover your butt culture, otherwise, you may lose your job or your license. The MMs and the MHTs run the facility, not the nurses, as it should be. There are people in management positions that should not be.

The hardest part of the job is the entire job. Always chasing down the kids to pass meds, always having someone fussing or complaining about you not getting everything done before the end of your shift. 

UHS as a whole does not care about their employees. They are a multi-billion dollar corporation and they pay nothing for you to be a bouncer to undisciplined kids.

There is always a lot to do when you provide a service of care for any population of the community, but children are delicate even in their place of crisis or distress. This hospital provides quality care, comfort, support and structure to those in need of behavioral health and that is a tremendous responsibility that Lighthouse Care Center of Augusta takes very seriously. I am honored as an employee of the hospital to be present during this season of growth, expansion and vision. 

In addition, we have a great time with our peers and colleagues! Hospital Week was the GREATEST! The CEO is very creative and sponsors employee engagement events for the facility and leadership team throughout the year. The succession planning in this company is awesome as long as you have the drive, work ethic and determination, you can definitely move up. Great company!

These are the challenges:
1. Low Pay
2. Center significantly understaffed
3. Unsafe to work in
4. Extremely high turnover rate
5. Little to no structure provided by the leadership
6. Favoritism of certain staff members by the leadership
7. Numerous infrastructure issues(e.g. roaches, bugs, etc...)

In summary, if a person is assessing this operation for employment potential, there are several barriers which preclude this center from being a good place to work. Additionally, given the inadequate structure combined with the severely high acuity, this operation is extremely unsafe to work in.

We are all here for the patients! Working at Lighthouse requires employees with integrity, intensity and emotional intelligence. It is rewarding for the patients to complete treatment and express excitement to return home. The management there over communicates through bulletin boards, Shifthound email blasts, Town Hall meetings, and an electronic announcement board. I like working here because I take pride in my work ethics and the impact that I make in a positive manner.

This is an ok place for entry level practitioners. I would say get your experience build your resume and continue along your chosen path. Things are being restructured in the facility from the top down. Management and policy is changing, so that leaves things in chaos. My experience is you have a mess and a lot of resistance with change. Staff and management are not communicating very well at this time and there is a disconnect in unity and teamwork. I love the experience I have gained from being in the mental health setting and learning from my colleagues.

Helping the Kids with guiding them towards higher goals of controlling their behaviors that trigger the em.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Sometimes dealing with different personalities at the same time!!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Sometimes High intense energy and fights and behaviors could happen at  any moment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Always bust always unexpected every day you will hear a new story

Working with the kids was great. The pay was very low and there was absolutely no training provided in reference to how to do my job and what was expected of me. As a therapist I was given a caseload and expected to figure out the paperwork, therefore there was no consistency between therapists and each chart had a different style treatment plan. Co-workers were friendly and professional. This job required that a therapist be on call 1 week every 6-8 weeks. This was a very high stress job and very little down time if any.

Salary was not the best in the area. Also medical and 401 programs were not available for several years. Great upper management at one time, but that changed over time. Dietary Dept. functioned independently without hassle from CEO. Great program for so-called "troubled" kids, at one time.

Three staff members in a 9 month span charged with sexually assaulting kids from the facility should tell you something about management. Objective is to keep the facility name clean and money coming in the door. Older kids beating up little kids and staff striking kids. Techs having to run therapy groups for therapist that would not show up.
