A typical day was fast-paced and demanding, with high expectations placed on hourly employees without adequate compensation or support. I learned a lot about the work itself, but very little investment was made in employee growth or work-life balance. Management lacked empathy and professionalism, and the workplace culture often felt driven by power dynamics and unnecessary drama rather than teamwork. The hardest part of the job was being overworked while feeling undervalued and unheard, especially as a parent. Flexibility was extremely limited, and support for employees with children—or those who became pregnant—was minimal to nonexistent unless you are apart of the leadership aka mangers then you could leave if you are sick or better yet bring your child into work with you.  The most enjoyable part of the job was the mission itself, but unfortunately the internal culture made it difficult to stay.

I enjoyed working for LSS of Central Ohio for 3+ years, wasn't perfect, but work was rewarding. Pay was always lower then a comparable position, does offer more than average PTO (but was very difficult to take it), and little room for advancement. Then the Food Pantry distribution model changed, management changed, and it became obvious that upper management didn't care about clients or employees. Several key and senior employees all quit within a month of the changes, LSS repeatedly chose to ignore client and employee concerns, often completely ignoring comments from the hands on people and leave them completely out of the conversation.

 Job went from not bad/generally enjoyable, to being unbearable (mostly due to completely avoidable issues and terrible management.)

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part of working at the organization is that I get to engage with the residents.
 It's very unorganized! No teamwork! Very dysfunctional which to me is an oxymoron because you can't tell the staff from the residents! The only reason I haven't left is because I really have a passion for the homeless population.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No teamwork! Too many chiefs and not enough indians!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Cliquish! They do a disservice to the hard working employees and overlook the ones that the most they do is show up for work!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Depends on what shift you work

I worked with this company for almost a year and the management sucked. All they did was okay with the donated toys or find what they wanted before giving them to the shelter residents. They also talked about the people who live there and made them low if they were not their "type" of people.  The staff sucks and they need to fire everyone, especially the kitchen staff. But hey you get to eat all day I guess. 

Working for LSS was very rewarding. Management was great until a turnover in staff. Unfortunately, it's an environment in which the funders make the rules even if they don't make sense.  It became frustrating trying to help people with limited tools.  Otherwise, you are a part of a supportive team working toward client focused care.

It was a very pleasant experience at 1st then once the VP left it all went down hill. The managers are paper smart but people dumb. Noone knows how to talk to anyone and you can forget about Upward mobility unless you are in the in crowd and not a poc. I initially disnt want to work there but so many people said it was good and it was not.

As an Intern my position was Resource Specialist. I cannot speak to pay or advancement as I wasn't an employee who was paid. Within my department in Franklin County this was a wonderful job and very fulfilling and rewarding work. I've followed the other services they offer and I am a Fan. Id for sure work here again.

I was a volunteer stock clerk at the Lutheran Social Services. You will be part of a system that helps folks who are in great need. Some of the folks who are serviced are not patient.

Lutheran Social Services is a fast paced work environment, which at times places stress on management and staff to complete assignments timely.  Agency does s suffer with cash flow concerns as it tries to do too much with its contribution base.

Faith mission is very needed in the community....it provides shelter ,jobs ,medical and it is a consistent reminder of where anyone could end up ...as well as a blessing that it is there if ever needed
