You have to pretty much learn everything on your own. The staff that has been with the company for a while get a set schedule and management has no regard for your personal time. They expect you to be on call 24 hrs, but only pay you for the hours you’re actually at work, management and staff blow up your personal phone even when not at work and some of the staff that are allow to drive text and drive all the time.  They care very little about their staff and do not appreciate their child care workers or TAs. They care very little about your overall well being and state of health, scheduling employees to work double shifts and 2-3 random overnights a week including a random 7-3 and 3-11pm shifts, not allowing you to get the proper rest to care for minors. If you do a fly out you have company only pay you like $35  for meals for 17hr work day, and does not cover the costs of taxes you spent, they also do not pick up from the airport after the fly out, you must find your own way home and cover all your expenses.

would not recommend working for this company, especially at the Safe Haven location. From Assistant Directors to supervisors, new hires receive little to no support. The organization claims to foster a positive work culture, but in reality, it’s more of a facade. You’ll encounter cliques, favoritism, and a lack of guidance or accountability from leadership.

Be aware that the company pays only semi-monthly (on the 15th and 30th), and payroll issues are not uncommon—so don’t be surprised if your paycheck is delayed or inaccurate. While you might meet a few genuinely kind and hardworking people, most of them don’t stay long due to the toxic environment.

If you do decide to work here, take whatever experience you can get, but don’t expect meaningful professional growth or support. This may be a stepping stone at best—not a place to build a career.

Agency employees lack adequate support from upper management, which contributes to an overall “dark” culture.  There is very little opportunity for the vast majority of employees to obtain upward mobility. Many employees remain stagnant in their positions for many years. Some over 15, 20 years without any type of growth within. There is definitely a sense of “US” vs “them” type of attitude from the upper management perspective.  Perhaps closer scrutiny of employees surveys, true follow up and attention to issues and concerns raised in those surveys, would improve conditions for employees there. But for the most part, many employees feel stuck in their roles and without the tools to improve and growth professionally due to the lack of support from upper management at Luther Social Services of New York.

It appears to be a cycle of promotions, sort of a click. Supervisors are promoted to program Directors with not enough knowledge or experience.  Case managers are hired with not enough experience.  This is not a good match and I’ve watched clients suffer because of this.  Also, Vision insurance should be added to the benefits.  You do spend numerous hours on the computers.  The org provides lots of support, as far as, self care options to prevent staff from stress, etc.  Trainings are also provided, but the best training is an experienced supervisor or Director. 

 organization is a dedicated nonprofit that provides critical support to refugees, helping them achieve stability and self-sufficiency. The program's holistic approach ensures that clients receive not only immediate relief but also long-term opportunities for success. With a strong commitment to advocacy and community partnerships, the organization continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need.

Typical day very uncomfortable directives were not given with notices or in a timely manner. Some staff were unprofessional. No leadership or guidance. Management were not understanding and were not reliable. 

Lutheran is a dynamic agency with an assortment of professionals who are all focused on strengthening the families they encounter daily. The hardest part of the job was child removal and of course going in and out of uninhabitable homes of clients who were faced with countless issues.  Not enough resources to accommodate the needs of the clients.

I typical day for me is going on home visits. Coming back to the agency and writing the progress notes i a timely manner. Supervising parent/child visits. Writing the notes of the supervised visits Having lunch with colleagues. Searching  for resources that can assist the families.

I felt the management was unhelpful and the culture stressful. There was very little training as you were just thrown into the job. I had little interaction with coworkers which made the day to day very lonely and uninspiring.

Great place. Awesome work environment. Less than enthusiastic persons working there. Management/administration was unqualified for my needs as well as Special Education student needs. The hardest part of the job was the interactions between security staff and students, for it is a hands off job.
