interview process- you have to find grammatical errors on their website to be considered. Then you come in and take a spelling test like you are in 2nd grade. The words are at a 2nd grade level too. It was almost humiliating.

I wasn't able to learn much in 1.75 days of work. The training for receptionists is mediocre at best. The first day we had a 2 minute tour of the building with little to no explanation. The trainer just kept saying, "you'll understand eventually. It took me months." Is that supposed to be a good thing?
Next we lollygagged with the trainer(who seemed high on something) for about 15-20 minutes. She was creepily perky and a little lost.
After that she sped through the employee's manual skipping major sections. She even commented that she didn't understand everything.

The worst part of the day was when we were given headphones to watch a video for over 4 hours until lunch break.
After lunch break we started practice on taking messages. Each trainee was given 40 sample calls. Instead of having a modern training system with its own checks and balances or grading system, the trainer had to come and check each computer screen for each call for each trainee. She had to personally check 240 calls by herself!!! Can you say poor time management and poor planning? The computer screen said the practice would only take about 2 hours. It ended up taking the remaining 4 hours plus 2 hours the next day.

Fast forward to the next day. 2 of the 6 trainees were no-shows. We went through the remaining portion of the videos and started to role play with each other until lunch. I must go back-before we even finished the video another trainee disappeared with no explanation. We thought she was in the bathroom. We role play again after lunch until about 2 hours are left in the shift. We were told that we would sit with receptionists on the floor to learn more about the job. When the other 2 ladies were sent out I was left alone in the training room. The trainer comes in to tell me they don't like the quality and tone of my voice, it was not gonna work out, and I was dismissed. She actually stated that she didn't have a moment during the (ENTIRE FREAKING)day to tell me. This was the same woman who was complimenting me on doing so well on the practice calls the day before. It doesn't even make sense.

How do you fire someone when there was no actual performance to review? Did they not hear my tone of voice during the phone interview, face-to-face interview, and the entire 1st day?!! How rude is it of them to waste my time? They didn't know if I turned down another position or not. had to drive 30 mins to get there. They could've told me earlier and saved me over 2 hours of driving and gas. OR not even hired me in the first place!!!!

If I had made it to the 3rd day I would've been taking live calls. There is no way anyone would be prepared in that environment.
The computer system is extremely antiquated. You can barely use the mouse. The trainer even commented that she needed to break us of our mouse addictions. Really?!! Instead of having a taskbar or menu options at the top of the screen, you have to memorize F-key functions. Is this 1985?

I have worked in call centers before. Usually you are told to bring something to keep you occupied in case you have idle time. MAP doesn't even allow a book at your desk. If you are not busy you just have to sit and look at a screen until it is time to go. It gets very quiet around there at night.

I would not recommend working at this company at all. Starting pay is only $8 although they advertise $8.50. They try to get you in the door by telling you that potentially you can make an additional $2 after training plus bonuses. You will find that it is highly unlikely that you will get those bonuses. They also don't state what your final schedule will be until the 3rd week of training. They don't even indicate what schedules they are looking for or ask for preferences.

Low pay, huge turnover (example: I was one of 5 full time employees hired and they only have one left out of 5 of us in less than a month of being hired and they brought in 7 temps to handle phone calls because they couldn't keep anyone) Even a manager told me they have over 50% turnaround! They're constantly hiring.

Unrealistic expectations...you're required to use exact phrasing (it's called role play) and if you even ask a caller for example, for a phone number before you ask for their name, you get docked for it. (they review 5 calls each week per employee) Even if the call was exceptionally handled, professional, helpful you're still docked for it). It's ridiculous.

Need an extra 10 minutes one day for a bathroom issue, anything? Forget it. Once again you're docked if you're not on the phones at least 96% of the day. Totally unrealistic. I've never worked for such a place before.

I've worked for 2 other call centers and MAP is totally different...totally unrealistic...I'm very happy to be gone. I wouldn't recommend this place to work for anyone. Every job I've ever held except Map I've had marks of 4's and 5's on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being exceptional. I'm a good employee and not a quitter.

Oh, and my last call center job before this one? Our department manager listed me (and marked on my yearly review) that I was in her top 3 employees she's ever managed in her 20 years. I had to quit because I had to relocate or I would still be there. So, I know a little bit about call centers and the work required.
Review your payscale. $8/hour is too low for this type of job. I can't remember the last time I worked for $8/hour! (except here of course).

ADVICE to Map:
Make your phone policies workable (I was docked for minor things like phone number before name, yet a co-worker next to me was told by a minimum of 3 callers that she was dumb. I'm sure it was because she did her "role play" and her call handling was totally messed up because it didn't fit the call itself but she got a 96...hmmm...) I never had any complaints from your clients.

Bathroom breaks...lighten up. Sometimes we need an extra break. (or would you rather keep hiring and losing employees weekly over and over again? how much money do you lose doing that??) Set realistic goals for your employees.

Oh and if you're not going to change? Make sure you let your applicants know your turn around rate and issues. (We would much rather keep looking for a job than wasting our time

This job is not what it seems. They are almost IMPOSSIBLE to please. The job consists of taking calls ALL DAY with two 30min breaks that you can barely enjoy because management is looking for you even though you have schedules break times. The pay could be MUCH better for the amount of work and accounts we take. Then they throw accounts on us without proper training and get upset when we mess up. You’re taking calls that doesn’t follow the account so you are either saying something that doesn’t apply to what the call is regarding and you look like you don’t know what you’re talking about which leads to upset callers or you are routing the call incorrectly based off what information was given to you and you end up with upset clients. There is absolutely NO form or morale boosts. Management feels food makes it better (which it doesn’t). We are constantly being hounded to work overtime but management literally walks around not doing anything. OT (overtime) is OPTIONAL but they’ll make it seem mandatory if you don’t willingly say yes. And God forbid if you have to call out or leave early. They will literally catch an attitude for it, as if life doesn’t happen. Trying to take any of your PTO (paid time off) is nearly impossible. Then you lose it after you hit a certain amount. It’s cold in the building and no matter how many times people have asked them to turn it up, even just by 3°, they don’t. So you’re sitting at the same desk for hours freezing. You only get 15mins worth of a restroom break. After that, it will start to affect your performance. So all in all, do not work here. Management is bad. Morale is bad. It’s good while you’re in training, but once you’re done, it’s definitely not worth the stress that we are constantly having to deal with. Oh and also, you work above a LabCorp which has been doing COVID-19 testing for patients. 

Here at Map you are expected to be on the phone at a MINIMUM of 96% of the time. Out of 8 hours that gives you at the MOST 19 minutes for getting something to drink, a snack, bathroom, or even just a breather. You can get between 250 - 400 calls a day.

Attendance is by a point system. 36 points gets you suspended, 42 terminated. Calling out for ANY reason (kids, kid is sick, you're sick, car broke down) is 6 point, even with a doctor's note. Points fall off in 6 months. 2 - 7 minutes late from break is 1 point. Points increase by how much you're late. You get 2 30 minute breaks, thats it.

Its boring because all you do is take calls for 8 hours. I try to socialize with my coworkers in between calls (which can be hard on a busy day) but supervisors on occasion complain about THAT.

Be prepared to be abused by the callers and on occasion Map's clients. All calls are recorded so if you say anything off hand THEY GOT YOU. They'll let you listen to the call and sign a paper saying you acknowledged you heard the call with your supervisor (oh and EVERYTHING is documented).

I had to grow thicker skin for this job. It use to bother me in the beginning but I got used to it. Then you realize that all the calls are almost the same, even the angry ones, and you say the script that Map gives you (and if you don't they'll know). I like all my supervisors and coworkers as people. They're the best thing about Map. Pay sucks. Start at $8. But if you dont have many bills to pay or you live with your parents or your husband pays all the bills then you should be ok.

I only worked here for about a month before deciding to move on to bigger and better opportunities. The job itself is easy, laid-back and low stress; typical day-to-day duties include sitting at a desk all day answering calls, inputting information into the system and relaying messages. However, doing literally nothing but taking calls for eight consecutive hours can get boring. You get two thirty minutes breaks which always change. Sometimes the company you're scripting for doesn't always have the full information available, so it can get frustrating when callers ask and it isn't provided to you. While it is easy, the job is very repetitive. This place has pretty draconian attendance policies; if you are literally even a minute late clocking in, it will count against you. They monitor you from the time you log on, to the very seconds/minutes you're off the phone, and you need approval for bathroom breaks.They aren't flexible with scheduling and don't like when employees need the day off for any important reason (sick days, family obligations, emergencies, etc). Management is also extremely strict and conservative with dress codes. The first 30 days, they will "grade" you every week based on how you handle your calls. They micromanage their employees like crazy. I honestly felt like I was back in high school here rather than at a job for adults. The only good reason to work here is if you have no other options, and/or if you need a stepping stone while looking for something better.

Working for an answering service was my 2nd job, I've worked every operator shift, every CSR shift, sales and development. I transitioned to Map when my company was acquired by them. They made the transition period seamless and even kept our tenure. After the acquisition we had growth opportunities we didn't have before, and a great percentage of our staff was moved up within Map to higher positions in several departments such as General Manager, Regional Manager, Conversions Specialist, CSR, Quality Assurance and Software Development. There is plenty of room for growth IF you outgrow your current position and show you have the ability to grow and learn. Being an operator gives you the opportunity to talk to people from all walks of life, some angry, some happy but no matter we are there to help and that is something that left me feeling good. The Answering Service industry is not for everyone, you must have a desire to help others, follow instruction and be available to work different hours, as an inbound call center never stops when you're assisting Dr.'s, Lawyers and other emergency services.

During a regular work shift I come in set up my computer and get my station ready to take calls. While working here I have learned to listen carefully to callers and keeping up with what they are saying to make sure everything they want to say is included in their message. Management is very considerate and will try to work with you to the best of their abilities. They are very flexible with hours, and considerate to those who have to work around school schedules. Everyone I work with are delightful, and supportive. If you ever need assistance there are right there and willing to assist at anytime. The hardest part of my job would be when I am not provided with enough information on the company. For example, when we are not provided with the address or the office hours it is upsetting to have to say that I do not have that information when we are supposed to be acting as if we are in the office. The best part of my job is when I am able to help a caller out, with either taking their message or being able to set them up with a reservation. The hospitality group I am would be my favorite. Each place is different and each person has their own interesting story. Having the opportunity to assist them in making a reservation and giving them the security of knowing that it was done efficiently and effectively.

A typical day at work consists of taking calls ALL DAY. it's a good place to go if you REALLLLLLLY need a job. Starting pay is 8.50$ hourly with the chance for advancement. I got promoted to 10$ hourly within 2 months of being there. Upper management does display favoritism towards those who have been there alot longer and there is a new training class almost every 2 weeks which shows you how high the turnover rate is. You get 2 30 minute breaks everyday and they vary everyday. That was a big negative for me, as I would prefer to have the same breaks everyday. Also the training supervisor who monitors you the first 30 days is very condescending and talks to you like you're a school kid with no common sense. The company is very big on attendance and they have no sympathy for you if you can't make it to work for an actual reason. All they care about is if you have a doctor's note & you can tell them you have an emergency and have to leave and they still ask if you're coming back the same day. This company is all about making money, not it's employees and it's really hard to establish relationships with coworkers because you're literally answering calls ALL DAY. Alot of the callers are angry or upset so you have to deal with that frequently. Bottom line, if you absolutely NEED a job and can't find anywhere else then you could apply here but it's not an enjoyable job.

My time at the call center was an overall okay experience. The job itself was very metrics-driven, with a strong focus on call times, resolution rates, and customer satisfaction scores. While this structure helped me stay goal-oriented and efficient, it sometimes felt like the numbers mattered more than the people behind them—both employees and callers.

Leadership at the center was inconsistent. Some supervisors were supportive and approachable, while others were harder to connect with or unclear in their expectations. That inconsistency made it challenging at times to feel fully engaged or motivated, especially when feedback lacked direction or recognition. Still, I tried to stay focused on my responsibilities and maintain a strong work ethic.

What really made the job worthwhile were the relationships I built with my coworkers. Despite the daily pressures, we formed genuine friendships and supported each other through tough days. That camaraderie helped create a sense of balance and made the environment more positive than it might have otherwise been.

In the end, while it wasn’t the most fulfilling role, the job helped me develop stronger communication skills, taught me how to work under pressure, and reminded me of the importance of a supportive team.


MAP brought out my company last year. And are quickly making a lot is changes that are not in the interest of employees. One of those changes is we are all being forced onto their software. Not because it is better, but so that our new corporate overlords can track us better. It was missing a lot of functions that our customers rely on, and are having to be built WHILE they migrate customers to the new system. One might have thought they might have researched enough about our service offerings and such to know that their were shortcomings to afresh before forcing this change. It has not been the painless transition we were promised it would be.

We were told our c-level leaders would all be staying. They’ve started jumping ship.

It seems that they are cutting all the employee benefits and incentives programs that help with morale and have helped make us the company we were.

We had a culture of communication and open doors. Now? Our new overlords are so quiet about possible changes coming. It’s become a culture of no communication. It’s becoming truly an awful place to work.
