This should be a great place to work, the offices are nice and there's free parking. But it's not. Working in IT was one of the worst experiences of my life, senior management undermines middle managers, office politics and petty gossip are the order of the day. Forget process, efficiency, or doing whats right for the company. IT is run by old timers who have been there 20 years and don't listen to anyone new, they resent newcomers and do everything to destroy them. Constant infighting, petty bickering and complaining. High turnover, though thats slowed down with the bad economy. If you take a job here, keep opinions to yourself, always remember, facts don't matter, only the "chiefs" as they call themselves (some kidn of half-aXXed VP positino) opinions matter, right or wrong. Comapny has tons of money and spends freely on IT, way overboard really highly wasteful spending. But they pay high salaries and its easy to negotiate higher, the HR depmt is clueless and think what IT does is magical and justifies high pay. IT is seen rightfully as super hard and unpleasant to deal with and theres major friction on projects. Company struggles to install enterprise systems due to poor PM skills and bad attitutdes of IT people. Some IT are really good and dedicated but there are so many bad apples the whole place stinks. Even low level jobs are paid way over market. Any real skills like DW or middleware, six figures is easy. Certifications have no value here. Previous "healthcare experince" is almost prerequisite, even though its not really "healthcare" that they do, this business is processing insurance claims, dion't let them try to convince you otehrwise. Nothing noble, nothing important, just claims, same as tons of otehr companys. Best bet is to beblow one of the chiefs then you do Ok, as many before have done. Watch out for reorganization, which they do regularly as a way to get rid of unfavored (note I didn't say unqualified) people every once a while. Any dept other than IT should be Ok, I hear good things. Tehre's a good gym too. This my opnion only, possible someone else could have much better experience but after 11 years listening to just nonstop bitter complaining and whining from coworkers, I doubt it. Recommend to avoid this place at least until they get some grown ups (I dno't mean fogies, many of these guys are in 60's but have brain of teenagers) t orun the place. disappointing regretful experience.

"Bait and switch" is often used by new or newish employees to describe their experience at MVP. Your job description, the purported company culture and values, the seemingly giddy display by senior leadership about "helping the community"...you quickly find it's a very well-designed act. 

Your day-to-day does not resemble much in your job description. What your job entails depends on the department's culture and what buzzword business concept MVP is focused on that day. Much of what you do will be making senior leadership look good. You might even be asked to stop what you're doing and create a presentation for your senior leadership to present to executive leadership, even when that project is failing.

There is a lot of talk. Quite literally, you will be in meetings talking all day without getting much in the way of work done. Accountability is non-existent; there is an overwhelming cohort of people who do not know how to do their jobs correctly and who have no opportunity to get trained or improve. Poor performance is swept under the rug if you're playing the political game correctly. When backed into a corner, poor performers typically move to a different department, bringing no experience or skill.

All of this is a symptom of a larger, toxic culture. Executive leadership truly believes in their vision, but they're unwilling to see past their senior leadership to uncover the truth about what is happening at the department level. I would urge executive leadership not to be fooled by what your senior leadership is telling you. They will do anything to make it seem like everything is sunshine and roses in their areas. Talk to the people doing the work. 

That said, as long as you are fine not speaking up and doing what you're told, this isn't a bad gig. If you can flow with the constantly shifting politics and don't expect professional growth, you'll be fine here. It's not a bad holdover company until you find something better.

Abandon ship!

Here are the facts:

1- A recent coworker survey revealed that less than 40% of employees were satisfied with the corporate culture. Why work someplace like that?
2- In IT, there have been 8 re-orgs with the past 4 years.
3- MVP is not only bleeding top talent employees, but bleeding customers too! We went from over 750k Medical customers when I started to barely over 500k. Thus, the recently reduction in workforce and re-orgs.
4- MVP recruiters are are desperate to get bodies in the door. Ask the hiring manager if you have questions, not a dopey HR person. The IT recruiter I spoke to couldn't even give me a definition of what a server does. A true testament of what they know and their screening abilities.
5- Pay is only good because they are desperate.
6- 50+ work weeks multiple weeks in a row are not uncommon.
7- Typically, there are a lot of mid-level management positions available because they like to cut these out first, or because the smart ones leave before they do. No ladders to climb and dead end positions.
8- The only reason MVP is in business today is because they bought a successful company, Preferred Care (which they are driving into the ground), back in 2007/8.
9- All the major executives work in the Schenectady office and have GOD complexes because they work in the armpit of the state, I suppose.
10- MVP is a company that continually fails to innovate and adapt to the rapid and constantly evolving health care environment. It is a company that operates like its 1980 in the year 2013.

You may think this is a harsh review, and I ask you to take this review with a grain of salt. If you don't believe me, ask anyone that works at MVP what a horrible, horrible place it is to work.

What is the best part of working at the company?
If I could give a lower grade I would.  Unfortunately, with your new management and hostile environment the work lifestyle is a very stressful and anxious driven environment.  In addition, removing hours from members with LTSS services without adequate notice leaving them no other option then to appeal at both internal and external levels is a testament to "the new way not working". 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The Director and her rigid hostility. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I have noticed other departments and previous management were very supportive of staff. Trainer is very supportive of staff and willing to assist staff.  IT team is super supportive considering that the systems have lots of trouble shutting down on staff. Talent has not been supportive to any of the staff that have been let go over this past year and there has been a significant amount of staff let go that I would be wondering what is going on if I were in a senior management level. Also, the expectations have been brought to the Director of LTSS that they are not doable by several staff members and the Director's response to staff is demeaning.  She is not representing MVP the way MVP  culture has been in the past.  She hires friends, neighbors and previous coworkers and she has an "I" attitude not a "we or a team".  Sadly I had to write this to hopefully have someone listen. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
at one point it was good.  I have always felt I gave 110% to each member I touched.  I gave members extra support when they needed it and they always knew there was an open line with me as their case manager.

Must be on phones at 8:30 am . Calls start coming in , Providers are calling ,to ck on claims, pharmacy, set up inpt cases. for admissions\ck benefits, ck eligibility, we work off of many different programs. Try to take calls as efficiently as possible. Some calls may be as long as a hour or so. When you check on claims, appeals  and denials. Also sending remits ,and denial letters to Providers. We must follow all Hippa laws. 
 We have two 10 min breaks, a day  30 min for lunch. If you take a last call @ 4:30 , you need to stay on call until complete, could take a very long time . 

The hardest part of the job, is that everything keeps changing every day. Each person handles call coaching differently, so you get a lot of mixed messages. 

The most enjoyable part, is when you are on with a provider,You get all the information, and solve a problem , that is going on for a long time. 

Most co workers are very nice, some never speak to you, You be respectable to every one .

Management is ok, We have a very nice supervisor and manager now.They are very good, but follow every bit of procedure, there is no give and take. Also ,the rules are the rules. Except for the favorites.

I follow the rules , I give 110% every day. Try my best, Sometimes , very hard place to stay positive.

Elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, task and workflow analysis.
Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details.
Proactively communicate and collaborate with external and internal customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements as needed.
Utilize your experience in using enterprise-wide requirements definition and management systems and methodologies required.
Successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously
Work independently with users to define concepts and under direction of project managers
Drive and challenge business units on their assumptions of how they will successfully execute their plans
Serve as the conduit between the customer community (internal and external customers) and the software development team through which requirements flow.
Develop requirements specifications according to standard templates, using natural language.
Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts.
Be the liaison between the business units, technology teams and support teams.

While the company does continual surveys in hopes of boosting company moral, little is done at the core problems. The over turn that you see in customer service, claims, and other departments should have been my first red flag. The learning curve is steep, the financial accuracy of the claims you process has to be 99% or you will fail your month, it's an almost impossible / unrealistic goal to reach when processing hundreds of claims a day. The potential to do better grows as they up your processing limit, but getting a manager to do that even after being told yours would be upped multiple times was a struggle. Cross training did happen which was nice to see other departments, but it was usually done cramped around someone's desk that you could tell really didn't want to be doing it. Several managers would disappear to smoke across the street while we were closely monitored anytime we left our desk. Was very micromanaged to a point you couldn't breathe without being bombarded by messages. The only positive was the salary was decent. One manager is notorious for getting people fired if they question her work ethics. Many women are petty and get into office "drama" and you feel like you're back in high school. If you can keep your head down, work, not really interact with people you might do alright since the pay and benefits are decent. Other than that, wouldn't recommend. 

This company was heavily involved in state of the art database technology.  Performed data modelling tasks.  Wrote documentation and project specifications.  Thorough review of all documents created.  Management was great when first started working for them.  Later, they had a lot of turn-over of senior management which made the work environment unstable.

Typical work day was a normal 8 hour day.  Flexible working hours.  Project manager was interested and involved in a personal manner with all employees.

Allowed to take advanced training with no restrictions on location of the training.  Became well versed in advanced data modeling for both transactional and data warehouse techniques.

Co-workers were friendly and always willing to step in when asked for input on design activities.

The job was challenging and exciting.  There were many opportunities for difficult tasks to add to skills.

Team members were a joy to work with and there was no need for competition between them.

MVP is decent place to work at if you need a platform to grow and start your career or have started a family and need good benefits to support them, management can be flexible to your needs to maintain a good work/life balance.  As in any place Management isnt the same accross the board so you may get a less understanding manager for your situation.  Your coworkers can easily become the best part of working at MVP.  Unfortunately MVP does not have a dedicated roadmap for investing in their employees careers and while the do provide reimbursement for College credits they often leave it up to you and dont provide any direction on how to develop your skills.  There is also no clear roadmap on how to progress up the career ladder at MVP so managers are often made up of outside hires or people who have just been around long enough to get dumped into a managerial position as the need arises, i.e there is no first A then B then C plan, just if a manager happens to leave and you can fill in, then you will end up doing the job until they decide to give you title.  For such a small company MVP also seems to have a high tuurnover rate, but if you looking to start a family or support one then you will probably stick around.

MVP was a good environment and a great job.

The best part of my job was the people I worked with in the Human Resources office and some of the departments that I supported.  I also enjoyed being able to offer external and internal candidates a new opportunity with MVP.    
A typical day was reviewing e-mail to see if any new positions had been approved, so I am aware of what needs to be completed within a certain timeframe.  I would also review anything that needed follow up from the day before.  I would review my schedule for interviews that I would be a part of and also review the specific candidates selected.  
A major portion of time was spent reviewing applicants for the jobs in which they applied.  Many of the positions I covered generally had a plethora of candidates.  I needed to find the best of the candidates to send to the hiring managers/supervisors.
During heavy hiring times I did spend time co filled.mpleting folders for each hired candidate.  I did all the follow up in the various pre-employment screening that MVP required.
One of my busiest years I filled 163 positions.  I was very proud of the sheer volume of positions
