management consistently short-staffed us, especially during the weekends.

my only issue with the culture at madonna was the lack of collaboration between day and night shift. it seems like we could constantly complain about the other, and whose duty it was to do what. there were small, arbitrary tasks that weren’t scheduled and which made it very easy for stuff to slip through the cracks and have it be blamed on night shift/day shift. rooms were almost never stocked when i got to work, and i would spend probably 20 minutes each morning just grabbing chucks/briefs/clothing for patients. im sure night shift had the same issue, and setting each other up for success just wasn’t really an issue that got addressed.

title says it all. corporate puts no money towards staffing in omaha, it seems. they are still hiring, but for some reason will call off nurses and aides virtually every day and only have 1 aide for 11-13 patients at times. usually it’s not too bad, but for some reason whoever decides the aide to patient ratio being 1:13 is reasonable, even if half those patients need 2 people to transfer. MOST of the time we have adequate staff. however, we aren’t compensated for running around with our heads cut off for 12 hours when understaffed. pay isn’t enough to cover rent, car, health, and life insurance. owning a home is out of the question with this wage. a lot of people i know have a second job despite being full time employees to make ends meet.

The department in which the Staffing Service Coordinator works is stressful and negative.  The manager requires that you repeat things verbatim to staff to 'give the same message'; however, the message is often rude and short.  The training and expectations are inconsistent and unreliable.  If you are to take this position, be sure to document how you are trained, treated, etc. as you may need to talk to Human Resources.  The more details (time, date, witnesses, situation) the better.  It is best to get the required expectations in writing as it always seems to conveniently change to the manager's convenience.  Overall, this position does not pay well enough for the poor treatment, inadequate training, and other negative aspects.  This position/department is most likely not representative of the culture at Madonna.  If you are looking to work at Madonna as an RN, LPN, or NA, you will find that it's a great place to work.

Monitor patient's physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, or blood chemistry changes, and consult with physician if adverse reactions occur.

Provide emergency care, such as artificial respiration, or assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Set up and operate devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, or aerosol generators, following specified parameters of treatment.

Work with patients in areas such as the Pediatrics, Acute Rehabilitation and Vent Assist Unit treating conditions such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, pneumonia, stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and heart failure. 

A very rewarding place to work.  I have the privilege of seeing people get better and going home.
I work with some of the smartest, team oriented, supportive RTs around.

4-5 patients per nurse on LTACH floor.  Can be overwhelming and stressful at times as any nursing position.  Very wearing on body with the amount of lifting, pushing and pulling.  Watching patients progress and gain their independence back from life changing illnesses makes you feel as though you are a part of something much greater than yourself, God placed me here for over three years to be a witness to the miracles and blessings bestowed upon these patients.  It gave me a completely different prospective on Whole body medical care (nursing, therapy, social work, family and patient drive to regain the abilities that were taken from them.)  Im so thankful this God allowed this to be a part of my nursing journey.  

Night and day with nurse staffing. I was night shift staff member there and only seen my boss come to night shift only during nurses week (nurses week is a joke there as well to management). Literally the only time I’ve seen my boss was a handful of times. Got injured at work, but they could not “accommodate” me, is what I was told by HR. Day shift leaves patients rooms a mess with a bowel movement in the bedpans and leave it sitting on the toilet with linens and trashes full. Making the patients and families sit with the smell until night gets there. They don’t care for staff members with medical issues if it has anything to do with Covid, if the n95 mask doesn’t fit your face, they still give you a Covid patient or three. They’ll float staff constantly around hospital with no warning. They’ll call off core staff members and send you to float to that unit instead. Pay is good, and night shift staff are good.

This company is one of the worse I have ever worked at.  Very poor management and supervisors.  They really don’t help out nurses.  Just likes  giving out orders and sitting back.  If they don’t like how you are doing your job they will put you on a “plan.” Just like they do in nursing school.   So beware nurses!  They also like making people “supervisors” who have no business being supervisors.  I still can’t get over they made a RN who walks around the facility like a high school girl a “supervisor”  over a person who has been a nurse for years and is well seasoned.  Makes no sense.  This company also likes to take in patients that have out of control mental issues and is abusive to staff.  No business taking in these types of patients.  Save your sanity and found a better place to work for.

Care of injured patients or those that need rehab from an illness. Worked with vents, trach cares, Gastro tubes, tube feeding, intake and out put, grooming, bathing, meds, detailed assessments wound cares, burn cares, feeding. Make sure the patient is getting the best care for the best final outcome for the patients life and being there for the families while teaching and education. Everyone works very hard. It is very busy and a lot of hard work. The hardest part of the job is knowing a Traumatic brain injury will not recover or watching a patient pass away due to lengthy illness. The best part was knowing that our care, concerns, assessment skills, hard work , and love did help others acheive higher goals.

I initially applied to Madonna as a CNA to see if I would want to further my healthcare career, its just not for me.  Most of the time its just the aides doing a lot of the work, and even then I don't see great teamwork happening. They hand out RTOs a lot when there could be more staff on the floor. I have not been impressed with management on acute, but on ltach I've seen nurse therapist get on the floor and help. The pay is okay, but their differentials are great. I do feel like this is a great place to start to see if you want to further your healthcare career, you work with OT's, PT's, SLP. They also have a part time, full time, prn and the option of working 12s, 8's or 4's. 

My typical day at work consisted of getting report, which was given in a group setting due to working in the long term care facility.  Medication pass and treatments were completed.  These would range from trach cares to extensive wound treatment, including wound vacs.  After my residents were put to bed, it was two hour rounding and answering lights.  I learned a lot on the job.  I'd never seen a tracheostomy before.  My coworkers were great.  The hardest part of the job is getting to know the residents.  Since they were there long term, they had specific routines that they didn't like to have messed up by a new nurse coming in.  Getting to know my residents was also the most enjoyable part of my job.  Hearing about life experiences and their knowledge was incredible.

Worked third shift laundry. was very quiet always something to do. When I would go around to stock all of the linen closets all the other nurses and employees were very respectful and nice. This was a very physical job I was always on the go running around. security was amazing, after a certain time all the outside doors were locked until morning. The childrens side of the hospital is always locked as well. In the laundry room it was very organized. The dirty room/ was room an the clean room/dry/folding room were separate minus normal laundry lint. great place to work. hardest part of the job was probably delivering the linen everywhere and making sure that everywhere had enough linen they also gave you flu vaccinations.
