I enjoy employment with Mainsl several years, working part time with flexibility as I hold other jobs. I enjoy the clients as individuals, as well as co-workers. I love getting the clients out in their communities doing things they want to do as well as new exploring of places they may enjoy. I have had opportunity to assist them in exploring cooking, camping, grocery, crafting, exercising, singing as well as games, movies, sporting events and have learned so much from the clients and have grown a larger heart toward them all. 
Management is available for questions, continuous training offering further contributions to wellness and satisfaction of our clients. I work one on one as well as with individuals as well as group home setting.  I believe the hardest part of working with any of them is when they pass on, move away or move to a home in am not working in yet. I think that is so I have the opportunity to work with yet another who melts my heart and makes me want to strive to find their niche in life that I can assist them with for their futures.  I have heard of other companies. ...but am satisfied with what this company has offered myself and others.

Customers of Mains'l Services, Inc. all have special needs and need a little extra help to live happy, independent lives. Each and every client has unique needs that staff must adjust to meet. Flexibility, patience, and superior knowledge of Vulnerable Adult and Vulnerable Child policy are essential. 

Group Home 78 is a children's home for teenagers with behavior problems. This position required me to work one on one with all 3 of the kids to find fun activities, as well as manage daily tasks. Sometimes duties included physical intervention to prevent harm to other staff, housemates, and client. This job helped me learn to keep cool under ALL circumstances. Good days were spent lounging on the beach. Bad days were spent keeping a client from killing my staff members.

Mains'l also serves individuals that live on their own. I travel to my clients' homes and help them balance checkbooks, go shopping, set up and attend appointments, and set short and long-term goals.

Like any job, there will be times of stress and craziness.  For the most part, though, my job is relaxing and I enjoy it very much.  I work overnight while my clients are asleep.  I am there to provide support for them should they need it.  Apart from a few chores that need to be done and some documentation, I am am free to do what I want as long as I stay alert in case a situation arises with my clients.  I have full support from management and my co-workers.  The hardest part of the job is to stay awake.  This isn't always the case, but there are times when the night is long and I am tired.  Coffee helps...a lot.  Through this job, I have learned a great deal about developmental disabilities and it has helped me understand people better and some of the hidden areas that are a daily struggle for them.

Training is not a strong as could be, they offer various types however new hires need more "walk with me" through this assistance from management. There are multiple locations that seem to be "clicky" and do not want help from others or to help others. 

Management seems over worked and do not have time to unplug so they can give back more effectively. Upper management is not coming in to help alleviate this. Even getting into trenches where people are working daily to try and find a working not working to change things.  

The environment of the people you work with is amazing, each area makes a family out of who is around them, The company truly wants people to have wonderful lives and they will change the world.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
 The most stressful part of the job is not being properly trained, and how to deal with certain aspects of bowel and bladder care. Some of it feels like you’re dealing with a CNA or RN job duties.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment for Mains’l is stressful if there are not enough people to cover, or if management is under trained. They claim to support people who are their Program Managers or DSPs when they don’t.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day would be cooking, cleaning, bowel and bladder care, shower, grooming, laundry, giving meds, clearing stoma, and doing bowel care with a catheter.

My work day at Mains'L goes by quickly with collaborative staff and knowing what is expected of you to do. I have learned to think outside the box, how to focus on patient-centered care, and techniques that work well, or don't work well, with special needs adults and geriatrics. The hardest part about the job is incorporating all the individuals in activities so that they all feel included while still focusing on what they are interested in. Many day-to-day activities at Mains'L require problem solving skills such as using the correct word choice when encouraging an individual to engage in an activity. The most enjoyable part of working at Mains'L is the freedom to care for the individuals in your own way, every day. Not only is management flexible with your schedule,  but also very open to new ideas.

I worked in home care with a patient with cerebral palsy.
Job duties included but not limited to:
•	Provide safe, direct patient care in the home health setting. 
•	Safely adminster medications: PO, inhalation.
•	Created schedules for nurses and additional staff. 
•	Monitor patients for desired effects.
•	Effectively communicate with  non-verbal client using an AAC speech device. 
•	Suctioned and provided patient with breathing treatments patient as needed.
•	Carefullly fed client with risk for aspiration. 
•	Advocate for clients needs in the community. 
•	Assist client in taking notes while client attended college.
•	Accompany client in multiple volunteering commitments.
•	Assist client in instructing younger children with disabilites. 
•	Assist client in training new nurses.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Very supportive environment within management teams. The people we supported were the best part of working here. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working really long hours and not always having the support I needed. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is positive and upbeat. The culture has went down within the last five years due to the tremendous growth. Not everyone knows what is the Mains’l way nor displays this in their work. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Started my day at 9 am and worked through until about 5p. In another position I worked a whole lot more and got burnt out.

Management positions are a broad area that has an overabundance of work and do not see them very often at the work site or office.

This organization does very well to accommodate work/family balance.  The workforce at the residential sites is a mixed ethnic group, but they prove themselves very capable of work and fitting in here in America.  

It is difficult to not have a manager on site, which at times will slow down a response or fulfillment of job responsibilities at group residential sites.  Pay is low compared to other agencies who provide this employment.

Since family is very important to me, I greatly appreciate their work values of supporting that.

A typical work day was unpredictable as it was managing residential services for adults with intellectual disabilities. My duties are described in my resume. During my time there, I was able to grow and advance in my management and leadership skills. My co-workers and supervisor were the best and we did our best to be supportive of each other and the company. The hardest part of my job was finding a good work/life balance as it is a 24/7 operation. The most enjoyable part of my job was getting to be a part of making a difference in the lives of others each and every day.
