It is with a mix of gratitude and sadness that I reflect on my over ten years of employment with Marathon Oil. My tenure with the company was marked by fulfillment, growth, and a strong sense of belonging. Unfortunately, my journey with Marathon Oil recently came to an unexpected end due to the challenging economic conditions brought about by the pandemic. Despite this, I am compelled to express my sincere appreciation for the enriching experience I had as a member of the Marathon Oil family.

I felt a profound sense of purpose and connection to the community throughout my time at Marathon Oil. The company provided me with a platform to excel professionally and contribute meaningfully to the greater good of the business. I took pride in my role as an integral part of the organization, and every day presented me with new opportunities to make a tangible impact.

One of the aspects I cherished most about working at Marathon Oil was the diverse range of experiences I had. Over the years, I was involved in various departments, gaining invaluable insights and skills. Serving as the authorization of approval for the Eagle Ford asset stands out as a particularly rewarding responsibility, allowing me to play a pivotal role in the company's operations.

Moreover, Marathon Oil's commitment to its employees was evident through its competitive compensation packages and supportive work culture. I felt valued and respected, which motivated me to strive for excellence in my role consistently. The camaraderie among colleagues fostered a collaborative environment where everyone felt empowered to contribute their best.

While my departure from Marathon Oil was not by choice, I hold no grievances against the company. I understand the difficult decisions that had to be made in light of the economic challenges posed by the pandemic. Despite the circumstances, I am grateful for the opportunities afforded me during my tenure and the lasting relationships I forged.

In conclusion, my time at Marathon Oil was characterized by fulfillment, growth, and a deep pride in my work. While the end of my journey with the company came sooner than expected, I will always reflect on my time there and the valuable experiences it provided me. I can only hope that one day, circumstances may allow for a reunion with this esteemed organization, but until then, I am grateful for the memories and the lessons learned.

I love Marathon Oil and will cherish my time there. Unfortunately, I did not make the second round of layoffs during the 2nd year of the Pandemic. There are many pros to working at this company, one of them being immediate leadership in the Field Offices. The immediate Supervisor that I had for the majority of the time there was the best boss. My Supervisor wanted me to succeed along with my team and took every measure possible to make it happen. I learned a great deal and I am incredibly appreciative of the opportunity. The only con I would say is instability and the unstable nature of the CEO and surrounding teams. Much like most jobs, your job is not guaranteed. The biggest problem with this is Marathon's first method or solution seems to be cutting employees, rather than alternatives. I've seen many other companies, both smaller and larger make smarter moves and leaving lays offs for the final step. I think this is a more efficient way to run a business but can't speak for everyone.   

This has been the worst place I have ever worked. The job is so cut throat the only thing it’s takes is a hurt feelings compliant to get some one fired. If you go to work here you may want to wear a steel lined jacket because it’s onky a matter of time before you get stabbed in the back. You’ve got the topical mix of lazier then normal employees. The only problem with that is management falls right in with that. There’s a select handful of hard working employees while everyone else and the supervisors sit around and play games all day on there phones and rarely leave the office. I’d any complaints are made or questions asked you should probably look for another job. The Hr department is the most comical thing that I have ever seen here. You could literally get told on for someone else cussing you at work and they try and fire the innocent person. I’ve seen a lead safety man get fired nearly for doing his job. Most of the full time employees are so lazy they had to hire temporary contractors to do the job and then put them in a lead role while the lazy employees cry and wine about someone telling them to do something. If you are looking for career advancement and looking to move up in this company then all you have to do if friend your boss on PUBG and be as lazy as possible and it’s almost guaranteed that buoy will be a lead within a month. This place is very toxic please do your self a favor and keep looking unless you are a gladiator and you enjoy a fight.

A typical day at this company makes me happy I have a job, but as for a happy place to be in daily, would not be my first choice to spend my time. The customers that visit this gas station are mostly, if not all, very rude, loud, ungrateful, messy, and very disrespectful towards me and every other employee that works for this company. They treat us as if were, ( the employees) uneducated, worthless and insignificant, when really everyone that is employeed there is either in college or has been to college. I myself have attended Wilbur Wright College but unfortunately had to drop out because I had to choose between paying my bills as a full time employee or going to school and further educating myself. I can say without a doubt I have made the wrong decision. As for management, lazy, would be a word best to describe them. When things go wrong at this company, they are not in any hurry to fix the problem and make things better. There really is not any hard part of my job. It is a gas station. I know what to do as far as customer service. I respect people that visit this store, even when they do not respect me. I would say the only good part of my job at this company would only be, it pays my bills. I am looking for a respectable job in a good neighborhood, and to work with a company that cares for their employees and cares how they look as a company.

Marathon is still a prestigious oil and gas company despite the various downturns and degraded management that have affected the company over the last six or seven years.   Under its previous leadership, MOC made great strides in overseas acquisitions, reserves building, and mentoring of younger staff.  After that leadership was replaced in 2013,  ill-advised management methods destroyed camaraderie and cooperation within the ranks.  Exploration also ceased and the company began selling off assets to maintain its Eagle Ford efforts. 

The best part of working at Marathon was the availability of resources to get the job done.  The worst part was management's placement of unqualified and untrained junior staff in charge of teams to supervise activities with which they were completely unfamiliar -- all in an effort to "reach deep" for the next generation of leadership.  The young leaders usually gravitated toward the young team members, ignoring or denigrating the experience of the seasoned employees.  Exploration ceased as original ideas were shelved.  Unsurprisingly, MOC stock plummeted in 2014 to a fraction of its previous value and has yet to recover.

My job was to load petroleum products at their terminals into their tanker vehicle and deliver those products to customer sites. (Company owned or independent dealers.)  Dispatches changed on a daily basis and sometimes changed during the day. Those dispatches were often challenging to accomplish during the work day even when few delays occurred and that was rare.  Usually dispatch was (reluctantly) understanding.  Any terminal delays were often verified by others as all drivers loaded at the facilities.
 Generally, Marathon supported and valued the company drivers. They were very safety minded and taught and preached safety.
For me, the most enjoyable part of the job was training other drivers.  I began the toward the end of my career.  Some trainees were successful but not all.  That is because, as I said above, the job is demanding, requires honesty, and can be a drain on your family and social life.  If you go to work for Marathon, plan to make it a career, not just work a job.

Work consisted of geoscience data management, using various software packages, primarily on UNIX workstation platform. Wrote SQL scripts to pull data from ORACLE-based software apps such as LandMark's Openworks, et al. Also maintained/updated paleontology database for the Gulf of Mexico via SQL, and managed all well log curve data using Geolog software. Got first exposure to Geolog software. Most co-workers were great, but there were one or two who made work more difficult than it had to be...nobody can "win them all" at every workplace. What mattered was getting the job done, and nothing interfered with that. I thought shorter-term, ongoing effective communication between myself and my superior were lacking when it came to year-end employee review time, but in retrospect, with the company undergoing rapid downsizing and reorg, I think my superior was out of the rapidly changing loop at times as well. I loved working with the software apps to achieve work goals.

Marathon was rated by Forbes magazine one of the top companies in the US.
Marathon has more benefits than you will ever use. 
But, the current Transportation  Middle Management does not  treats Transport Drivers very well. In many cases we are  micro managed by management.
Dispatch is consistently turning over with  new employees which makes it difficult to make improvements.
 We are the only hourly employees not paid overtime and have lost several pay benefits since the current Management has been in charge. Recently a New Pay plan was put into affect and our pay has been cut by$200-600 per pay. If you don’t make your target loads and miles for the pay period. You will be paid regular pay on extra days.
We work out of a small construction trailer with a portable toilet outside. With no changes in sight.
My job has become very frustrating recently and I am regretting taking this job.
Take the time to talk to a driver before taking the job. Ask a lot of questions during your interview.

I started employment with Marathon overlooking our artificial lift program which typically included tracking, maintaining, ordering, and change out plunger lift equipment as needed. I would also schedule and supervise all slickline and swabbing work as needed. After 1 year I was promoted to Workover Rig Supervisor. I am in charge of planning, scheduling, and supervising jobs associated with the workover rig and still schedule and supervise slickline and swabbing jobs. I have been involved with numerous workovers such as converting dual string wells to single string, down hole pump changes, tubing string changes including using x ray and pressure testing units, rod string changes, milling and fishing packers, fishing tubing and rods, bailing, perforating, wellbore clean out, installation and removal of coil tubing, and drilling out plugs. I am also Well Control certified through Chapman and Associates.

Marathon is a great company and enjoyable to work for. It is large enough to provide a variety of opportunities for employees, but not so big that you feel lost in the masses. One thing that I really like about Marathon was their active involvement in charity and giving back to community such as involvement in Susan G Komen Race for the Cure, Impact a Hero, volunteer project in 5th ward Houston, and Books for Bioko and anti-malarial projects in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea (West Africa).
Overall, Marathon appreciates a proper work-life balance and treats its employees well. Employees are well-compensated, however other areas of employee improvement could be improved. Marathon promotes a very friendly and comfortable work environment where you are surrounded by great people.
