My first day was during the time they still had an active and fairly big Covid unit. The staff member who was training me had a death in the family two hours in and had to leave, which was totally fine. What was not fine was that the DNS thought it appropriate to give me my own section overloaded with patients when I had no experience, no login to see patient care/charting, and few resources with only one other overloaded CNA and one nurse with me.

This was to be their operating logic for the remainder of my time with them. 

Now, we would go through a few periods where we were properly staffed, but months would go by with critical shortages. While there was a good incentive to pick up extra shifts, the level of care being provided suffered between employees doing a number of doubles or working 7+ days straight (not to mention still being short CNAs), along with the nurses running a full side of the building by themselves.

Then there were the budget cutbacks. Anything that was seen as extraneous was cut for both staff and residents over the time I worked with them. It felt like problems were dealt with on a superficial level to avoid the expense.

It became an extremely depressing place to work. There was constant staff turnover, constant loss of resources, supply chain problems that they refused to resolve by just going out and buying what we needed to provide the most basic of care. There were shortages in laundry, especially during my last few months, even on Day but especially on Noc. RCMs often seemed completely disconnected from what was actually happening with the residents they were assigned. The list goes on and on.

I will say it was a hard decision to leave both the residents and the nursing staff. The management could not be bothered. And I think that's the best takeaway here - as long as there was profit it didn't matter if we spent months working far outside of state regs. 

There are amazing staff members at the facility and all facets of this place need caring, compassionate people. The pay compared to other opportunities isn't great and you will often be working beyond what you should be. 

I don't regret my time here at all but for my own well-being, I knew I had to leave. It's a shame that Marquis became so deaf to the working conditions of their staff that they actively stated that anyone who left would never be welcomed back again.

The company has a lot of very ambitious goals that I have little to no doubt it will succeed in achieving.  
To be transparent the good and the bad:
Pros:
*They promote within. They are infamous for this. 
*They have a fair amount of longevity broadly against the board from cooks and cna's all the way up. They also celebrate those who have longevity in the company every year and host special events to celebrate them for their work. 
*The company overall does show appreciation for their workers. They are very interactive with their staff, have holiday company parties (for the entire company. They have even flown in out of state employees to celebrate together.) 
*They have a clear sense of purpose and a very clear mission for their business. 
*When covid first was even a possibility the first thing they did was fill warehouses with PPE gear to ensure staff safety in the case that an outbreak happened in one of their buildings. 
*The CEO is very down to earth and does not make any employee in any position feel above or Below another. 

Cons:
*Staffing is difficult for all of Healthcare. This plays a role in the day to day operations of their buildings. The workload can be very overwhelming. 
*Nurses are typically in these kind of places to gain experience before moving on to hospital settings. Having new nurses in and out of a building can be stressful especially on cnas as the expectations for them are every changing. 
*If you turn down a position offered to you by the company within the company, it's unlikely that you will be considered for another position later on. 
*Favoritism is prevalent in every building and can make you feel very out casted. 
*Getting time off feels like pulling teeth and you feel guilty for it.

I worked primarily swing shift, but occasionally days and nights as well. A typical day at work upon arrival consisted of a report from the previous shift's CNA that covered the "run", I was assigned to. After this I would gently knock and announce my self, and say hello to  each of my residents, to let them know I was here, and make sure they were ok. I learned a lot on how to organize time, and provide adequate care to each resident without feeling a sense of neglect to other residents. This skill, I feel, can never be mastered, because of the human element involved in nursing, but I strived to improve my abilities every day. The management team, was, I feel, professional and entertaining. We had several monthly meetings, to appreciate that! I really appreciated their open door policy. The most difficult part of my job was having a resident, who you became close to, pass on. This caused an interruption in my routine that was very difficult to deal with. I found ways to cope with this, mostly by witnessing family members displaying profound courage and faith. The most enjoyable part of my job, is truly the residents! I always loved interacting with them and listening to what they had to say, and their willingness to share their lives with me!

Location specific:The overall work environment is very positive and supportive. Upper management makes an effort to get out on the floor and help the staff when needed. I was impressed by how the administrator and DNS are always open minded and listen to any concerns brought to their attention. The administrative team works together and take action to resolve issues for staff and residents. The CNAs and LNs are always staffed according to regulations. I often received good feedback from nursing students, families, and staff about their experience at the facility. The DNS strives to provide educational opportunities to the nursing staff.
Company wide: They offer a free CNA certification course that is open to the public. Marquis is very forward thinking in every aspect of care when compared nationwide with other competitors. They provide an annual trip to Washington D.C. for WWII veterans and spouses. Their new healthcare plan (AgeRight) is innovative and has made a great impact in geriatric population at Marquis. The Vital Life Foundation is commendable.

I just can't say enough good things about this company as a whole.

At first I really enjoyed my position as a CNA but the longer I work there the more unethical, unprofessional, dismissive behavior I see. I had an incident regarding another employee seeking retribution against me and upper management has done nothing about it. Never have I worked for a company where retribution is tolerated, but I guess Marquis does. The majority of the charge nurses are almost intolerable to work with. They are lazy, dismissive, all with power trip issues. At one point the charge nurse yelled at anyone who even sat down or where taking a 30 second drink break telling them that it was not allowed and proceeded to lock all of the chairs in the charting room when all the charge nurse does is look up anything on the internet that DOES NOT relate to her job or play games on her tablet. To make things worse upper management seems even more dismissive about wrongdoings, yet the CNAs are constantly getting scolded for the smallest mistakes. I put my heart and sole into my residents but never get any positive recognition

I started at Marquis several years ago.    The administrator and  DNS  are very much supportive of her employees and tough when she needs to be.  To her it is not only the money that is important but also making sure that she is supportive of her employees and most important, making sure the residents are taken care of the way anyone would want their loved ones taken care of.  Life happens and when issue come up that an employee has no control over, she is there to lend an ear.  She is very much a valuable asset to Marquis Plaza Regency.  There are other staff in management who are just as supportive and professional as the administrator.  This goes to show that the management team is a well knit work of art that mesh together like a fine oiled machine to get the job done.  Whenever issues arise regarding patient care, the management team is the first to let front line staff know that the job is not getting done the way it should, so lets put our heads together to figure out what we need to do to make it work.  

The hardest part of the job is becoming attached to a resident and then the resident becomes very sick and is either sent to the hospital or passes away.  

I could not think of a better place to work.

This place will treat you like garbage! The management and floor managers are incompetent. Watch out for the grouchy nurse on 3rd shift, she throws CNAs under the bus like it's no ones business! Resident's complain over the littlest things, and guess what CNAs? They will suspend you, fire you, and then try to take away your CNA licenses! The management raves about how much they adore their staff, but won't have your back over anything. They listen to residents who are demented/high on medications and make stories up, over their own staff.
The rest of the staff (cnas) are terrible to each other! They all talk about each other and try to get each other in trouble. BAD bad bad cliques in this place, and management does nothing to try to stop it either - it is as if they LOVE the drama! The floor cnas/nurses argue like children, to the point they threaten each other with physical assault and fist fight in the parking lot.
This place is DIRTY! Infested with cockroaches. Resident's have cockroaches crawling in their beds, and on their dinner trays! Also have scorpions! 

To top this cake off with a sweet cherry - they pay lousy. Lowest paying facility in the valley. 

BEWARE of this place! It is bad news!

One of the worse run facilities I have ever been to. Administrator does not work Monday's and does nothing but send emails and have countless pointless meetings. In my opinion, has been off more than works. Expects employees to follow and work hard and sets a poor example.  No please or thank you.  Constant lying to residents and special treatment for the "pet" residents only.   They will tell you that the residents are the #1 concern but I promise you it is money. They will expect everyone to do everything exactly how they want, but very few do any work. There is a clique of 5 managers if your not involved and gossip after work about others you are a marked person. There is not one management person to be trusted.  There is a ton of very, very questionable things that go on daily. I have never been somewhere in 30 years that had so many people take off so frequently. If it is owed PTO or not the building can not run that way, no leadership or absence of leadership in every department.

Observed and documented patient status and reported patient complaints to the case manager. Read and recorded temperature, pulse and respiration. Completed and submitted clinical documentation in accordance with agency guidelines. Prepared patient rooms prior to their arrival. Collected urine and fecal samples. Support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus. Assisted with adequate nutrition and fluid intake. Positioned residents for comfort and to prevent skin pressure problems. Assisted with transferring residents in and out of wheelchairs and adaptive equipment. Assisted nurses with cleaning rectal tube, G-tube, J-tube, and regular catheter insertion. Charted daily information on the residents such as mood changes, mobility activity, eating percentages, and daily inputs and outputs. Recognized and reported abnormalities and/or changes in patients' health status to nursing staff. Documented resident records on daily flow sheets. Assisted with ADLs. Exhibited compassionate care and communication with regard to issues of death and dying.

I enjoyed working at Marquis Care Plaza Regency and gained a great deal of knowledge from my supervisor as well as my fellow team members. A typical day at work was not having a typical day at work. Every day entailed different situations and plans could change in a second which meant switching gears and finding different solutions. The population of residents which I worked with varied and I gained experience working with the residents and different situations. I managed the short term rehab unit during my time at Marquis Care Plaza Regency and worked with many outside agencies to help residents transition back to their home in the community. The most difficult part of my job was not knowing the agencies and resources in the community when I first started the position. However, taking many notes and building relationships with the representatives from the agencies helped a great deal and it didn't take long to become familiar. The most enjoyable part of my job was working with the residents and getting to know them along with their history/story.
