universal staff opinion is that HR and upper management are disingenuous or nonexistent, unsupportive, or fake supportive.  community population overwhelms the limited resources so work is always stressful; upper management are above you and uncaring, caring only about bottom line; compensation comparatively low, and a constant revolving door of travelers filling jobs temporarily, at significantly higher pay rates than permanent staff in same role.  The cafeteria meals are the best perk.  Staff are very friendly and kind and hardworking and underappreciated, but all are simply enchanted by the beauty of the geographic location and are willing to work for less money and less job satisfaction to work in a beautiful part of the world.

I have learned so much with this being my very first job at a hospital. How wonderful  that this one has given me a chance at a new profession.  
The hospital is very diverse with people of many cultures and ages which adds a wonderful spirit to the facility. Of course the hardest part of the job, as it has been for me, is being new to this field of work while being surrounded by people with many years of experience and asking their patience and help as I learn. The best part of this whole job, while it has been a struggle, has been leaning a new profession that I really enjoy. I would recommend this Hospital to anyone looking for not only a beautiful town but, a beautiful Hospital to practice their profession.

I loved going to work and would look forward to the next shift. I learned a lot to help me further my education in nursing. My coworkers including my manager were all very approachable and easy to get along with. The hardest part of the job was having patients who spoke different languages other than English but the best part of the job was going home at the end of the day knowing you had made a difference in someones life whether they were part of the community or not.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Paid holidays are probably the best thing 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
They don't pay enough to survive on Martha's Vineyard. Seeing how the cost of living is so high. You would think they could help in these tough times. But they only care about the bottle line not employees.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Everybody is grumpy and upset because you're working to survive not to live a normal life here on the island.

I was hired because of SEIU problems for management. I wish I stayed. Was forced to leave because some SEIU employees and a shop steward all kept doing mini strikes, and I was stuck covering their shifts, and I was their non-union manager. I wish I stuck it out but the CEO at the time was afraid to be direct with the union. Wonderful HR manager, she did a great job and she was very supportive when I left.

Check machines and computer to be sure they are functioning, construction goes on constantly, there's always a new office being built 
Be ready for a 180 change in a longstanding policy on any given day, rarely did anyone consult the personnel doing a specific job before changing work area the employee worked in.

I really enjoy working at MVH…the staff and community is small, friendly, and hard working. Staff should be prepared to be flexible since the hospital is the only hospital on an island. The hospital serves a very diverse population, increasing considerably during the summer months. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nice benefits. Beautiful area.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Mostly temp support and you work outside of your role regulaly. Got called in a lot on cases that didn't require an assist because of low staffing

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic.  Was the only mid-level in the department. Felt unwelcome and unappreciated

This facility is trying to improve itself. One non complaint but suggestion would be for the Cafeteria Improved menu…Friendly staff (you feel like you are bothering them if you ask a question or for extra condiments, no smiles, no friendliness, strictly business) Other employees complain to each other but not sure how to go about making suggestions. 

The department I worked in was short staffed continuously for 2 years and still is.   Overtime was not mandatory but the manager was intimidating employees to pick up open shifts.  I typically worked over 40 hrs every week.
