I was brought on as a contract temp. Worked at various locations, which was pretty good because you got to experience the different levels of management.  What they don't tell you is that you are mandatory to work on every Saturday and they have extended hours which change as the company sees fit. The management at the Parkville branch is a joke. Nobody is on the same page and will throw supervisors and customer service employees under the bus to SEEM competent. They go through branch mangers like running water. The assistant manager is allergic to work and has no back bone with customers... To save time, you might as well bend over backwards to give the customers what they want. The pay is way below what they should be offering for such a fast pace, stressful position. It is competitive for a permanent position. Some people have been Temps for years after their contract with no pay raise opportunities.  The company as a whole act like your are the worse person who has ever working the history of capitalism to request for a day off. Even with a doctor's note.  They also have equipment that never work properly,  will not upgrade their systems,  yet time your transaction process. When Covid hit,  management didn't notify employees that they might have been exposed nor followed guidelines until after being reported to HR and upper management. I don't understand how a Customer Service based company undervalue their customer service agents, yet are so dependent upon them....

As our departments goal I try to achieve best customer service everyday all types of customers come in with a different variation of issues. When I became part of the Dept. of motor vehicles family I never expected such a stressful yet great place to work in. Management staff that we currently have are so helpful and knowledgeable, instead of just giving orders they provide hands on assistance when needed. One individual at work handles many functions and sometimes management panics due to our customers volume in the building and begin to pile up more work to where they want one employee doing a two person job, which gets irritating due to the fact that we don't even receive raises every so year. Customers plus the work can become very stressful and I find that the hardest part especially when you get that type of customer to which he/she just doesn't want to understand the states regulations and wants us to break that policy just to satisfy their needs in which of course is not discussable. Although we each one of us goes through a lot in this career we always manage to end our day together as a team. Holidays and certain company celebrations are the best times for when those times are when we unite and spend quality time together and that is my enjoyment with the dept. of motor vehicles team. This work environment has taught me a lot I which I am so greatful of because I know in the long run it will follow me to a future career in which I can expand that knowledge and stabilize in a more progressing career.

What is the best part of working at the company?
There's no best part of working in Vulcan If they like you you'll get work if they don't you'll be home by 12 everyday


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Vulcan itself is stressful people are lazy like to leave their work for you to do and then when you get there you have to offload somebody else's so before you even can start yours or either dropping hook to your load they're just a mess

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I'm really surprised they have it went out of business

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Nothing ever gets fixed somebody is always passing a book and then mechanics or get mad or whoever get mad at you when you're just a truck driver and they have mechanics and other people to fix the trucks but somehow it's your fault

of chosen team leaders based on favoritism. Chosen team leaders lack communication skills which affect the driving force and motivational task of the team force of the workplace.The hardest part of the job is working in severe and dangerous weather and management patting one another on the back for a job well done, without recognition to its employees. The most enjoyable part of the day meeting different people from all walks of life. Team players are competitive but when there is work to be done they stand together as a single driven force.

Working at the motor vehicle administration benefits were great. With the budget cuts there hasn't been proper raises for years. The amount of stress and work that employees deal with is to much to be working at those wages. I've learned a great deal about people working at the motor vehicle. Management is driven by wait times based off the governor. They do not account for the employee and how well and efficient they work. The hardest part of the  job is feeling like you're  not  supported  by management and the administration. The most enjoyable part  of the  job is  you  create work family. Since everyone is going through similar work experiences and  life you gain sisters and brothers through experience and time.

The work I did as a FMT was to take care of the state roads. I learned a lot due to the amount of different tasks we would be working on from a daily basis. It was refreshing to have different tasks , it keep it interesting and gave me the chance to learn and encounter stuff I wouldn't have . The Management was structured so that was a plus , of course you had politics to some extent but I just came to work and if you do that and just take it all in and learn, you will progress well. The toughest part for me was being a essential employee, which meant I was on call 24/7. My problem was the commute , but you work in teams so its definitely manageable. I am very glad I had the opportunity to work for SHA I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants a good career.

As a Nurse Case Reviewer at the Motor Vehicle Administration, I reviewed medical records of individuals whose driver's licenses were suspended due to medical or psychiatric issues. I enjoyed presenting cases to the Medical Director, and interviewing clients with the Director to determine whether or not the client was safe to drive. The hardest part of the job was observing the recidivism of drivers who were alcoholic or drug abusers. Since I enjoy writing, I especially enjoyed preparing Statements of Case to be presented in court to the Administrative Law Judge.

Worked temporarily in the planning and capital programming division. Management is great about its employees having a work-life balance and treat all employees as professionals. They expect the job to be done well, but don't micro manage on how to get the job done at all. This is rare at its modal agency, SHA. Pay is also better here than at the modal administrations. Its a small office though and vulnerable to political change. Also, not a place you will gain much recognition in the industry as it plays mostly an administrative role rather than technical role in transportation.

A typical day at my work, usually it depends on which state of the project lifecycle I am involved. But, typically, about half of the day it dedicated to meeting and driving engagement with various people.
The other half on analyzing data and preparing for the meeting in the other half. As long as you're on learning mode, you learn something new every day. I would describe the workplace culture as teamwork and fairness. The hardest part of the job, any job has difficult or unpleasant part, all I do is to keep a positive attitude. The most enjoyable part of my job is interacting with people, reading between the lines. Finding what are the issues they're trying to solve, and finding the best way to solve them.

a typical day at work was come in first and wait for all the workers to come. then when everybody come e was assigned to different jobs each day. most of my jobs was filing papers ansawering phones, making flyers to put up for the staff. I learned how to interact with other poeple how to be professional how to file things the right way, how to ansawer phones and put calls on hold. My o workers they was cool and always there if i need help with something or if i didnt understand. The most enjoyable part of my job was meeting the other kids i met because they was really fun and easy to get along with. another thing is when we took a trip to the mayers office and we got to it in a court room when a trial was going on.
