When I was initially hired - the production requirements were very different from what they have ended up being.  I was given a car and a tablet to record my assessment findings, I must mention that it is a very poor quality tablet - using a very poor quality program that was designed with very little to no clinical input.  There is no work/life balance, and in fact, the work requirements are so stringent that it is almost impossible to find time to interview for another job.  The number of clients who need to be seen has risen, the time frame in which to submit the assessments using a very poor quality and a very slow program has decreased.  No matter how much is done, they want more and they want it faster.  The star NPs are those who drive few miles and see six people a day.  Others of us are forced to drive over a hundred miles daily (approximately three hours of driving time) while still seeing the same number of people.  There is no information sharing between the providers, and in fact, it is discouraged.  The company's medical director is condescending and demanding.  While the company claims to value its nurse practitioners, it only sees them as money making machines. If you are sick you still need to work, because the company frowns upon cancelling appointments.  They will tell you to wash your hands and use a tissue. They will tell you that this is 40 hour a week job.  It is not, unless you are very close to the people on your route OR you just really don't care about people enough to actually spend quality time with them.  If you are able to get in and get out, then maybe.  And you will be told to have your manager show you how to do the assessments in 45 minutes.  They will tell you to skip steps, but even your manager will be there with you for over an hour.  And then you will be reprimanded for skipping steps.  I wouldn't wish this job on anyone.

As a prn travel NP, this job fits my personality to a t. I've traveled all over the country serving clients and patients as a provider.  Shifts vary based on the client needs.  

Management is fantastic. There is a great deal of autonomy as management is mostly remote but always accessible.  They encourage, help us lead, trust, and have our backs.

Workplace culture can be tough as a contract employee because I work when there is work.  Not ideal for a candidate needing stability and security. Most colleagues are exceptional, fun, caring, and clinically sound. We have a tight-knit group of travelers who enjoy working and traveling together.  They are like family to me.

One downside is our Fleet team, the mobile unit drivers. Those that have been around are true professionals but a lot of the newer drivers are the opposite.  Young, inexperienced with no professional or communication skills, think they are in charge of a clinical site rather than the clinicians. Their branch has weak leadership seeking lower paid staff with few areas of expertise.  The old guard are/were former military/EMT/Firefighter class with the utmost respect for us as clinicians and lots of life experience.  You get what you pay for.

Schedules are hit or miss.  Top notch staffing and leadership but very little communication unless you are needed.  It's to be expected with a prn job but can be challenging when there are no updates about potential contracts, future work agreements, etc.  Again, not a staffing department shortcoming, just the nature of contract work.

The most enjoyable part of the job (1) working with amazing colleagues all day every day, and (2) serving our communities in such a unique way that delivers health care access to the underserved or those most in need.


Matrix as a company is nice, if they changed the process of the way they call health plan members the job would be much better. It's s voluntary service provide by Medicare Advantage to members by their health plans. We keep calling members even after they have declined this voluntary service. So we the callers are the ones getting yelled at for these continuous call. Matrix prides itself as a contact center, but the way we call member's under a telemarketing concept. A lot of members have express that they feel harassed. I do belive some of the members need this service and has saved some of their lives. Matrix is suppose to be a contact center, we just need to stop the calls from being process from a telemarketing concept. The calls are suppose to be 30 seconds apart but now since they've changed the amount of visits to be scheduled for the year, there is only 0-5 seconds between calls. The average timeframe to schedule a member for a visits is 7 12 minutes and the script has become very wordy and long. So back to back call are mouth drying and you barely have time to take a sip of water before your next call comes in. By the end of the day your throat is burning, your mouth feels like sandpaper and you have massive headache. Matrix and the people who run it has changed a lot. It seems it went from caring about irs well being for the employees to about how many visits they can schedule. We are not robots and we should not be having calls coming in so fast that we feel like we don't have rime to beeathe in between.

I’ve worked for 2 home assessment companies as an NP.  Of the two, Matrix had more members to see and a lower no-show rate.  Those are the main positives.  

Now for the negatives.  Matrix lowered its home assessments pay rate the week I started (after signing on at a higher rate) and then paid deploringly low rates for telehealth visits implemented during COVID.  Also, and perhaps most disturbingly, they provided NO PPE or hand sanitizer while continuing to send its NP’s out into people’s homes during the initial COVID surge.  They attempted to make amends by sending an annoying number of emails calling us “heroes.”  It was pretty insulting and upsetting, not just for us NP’s, but for the many vulnerable patients we see.   But ultimately, the worst part of this job was the notes.  The EMR they use is incredibly cumbersome.  They provide us with a tablet, which is much less user-friendly for this type of documentation than a laptop.  And they will ding you for every imperfection in documentation, which ultimately affects your rating as an employee.  I found myself spending hours on reworks after having never been asked to rework a single note at my other home assessments company.  They do this so that they can bill the maximum amount per assessment, I gather.  My manager was very friendly and made herself available; but at the end of the day, she couldn’t make up for an overall frustrating experience.  The amount of work and stress of perfecting documentation on an unreasonable EMR system was completely not worth it for the low pay.  Look elsewhere.

Typical day at work involved visiting 7 patients in their homes completing the annual comprehensive health assessment for Medicare Advantage patients.  Each assessment took about an hour but in some instances less (people on no medications and no medical history) to two hours for complex patients with multiple medications and medical history.  On occasion would come upon a member in distress with respiratory or cardiac issues and would triage patient, call their PCP for directions.  Either sent to PCP office or hospital depending on PCP recommendations. I learned how to improve my listening skills.  I improved my ability to educate members on their medications and/or disease processes.  Management worked hard to help you succeed.  Hardly had contact with co-workers. Most of co-workers seemed to leave out parts of the assessment to get all 7 patients in for the day.  I had a difficult time doing this.  I was very thorough. The hardest part of the job was to manage my time for 7 patients on daily basis.  When we were doing five a day, it was much more manageable. Since driving from one home to another there could be 30 to 45 minutes from one site to the next so seeing 7 people a day made for very long days. My most enjoyable part of the job was meeting the patients and educating them on their disease processes, medications, providing resources.  I loved working with the patients.

PROS: Great job if you love lots of independence.  Working with sweet senior citizens in their homes. No co-workers. Just you & the patient. Lots of travel.  The clinical managers were all NP’s, which was genuinely appreciated! 

CONS: This company has a TON of documenting & extra testing in the home etc (compared to others I’ve worked for) this was fine, because they paid a higher rate to compensate for all the extra work. Lots of work was taken home by NPs  & completed at night ! 

 However, they had a ton of upper mgmt turnover from CEO down to clinical managers. In that process they made a huge pay cut, many were very unhappy with.  6 mos later they made a 2nd equally large pay cut. The explanation given from the CEO was that they were going to correct logistical issues (instead of sending us an hour away between visits, they would all be “very close” together) so we could actually “see more & make more”!! 
 Unfortunately, this never occurred. Of course, the pay cuts went thru immediately.  One cut was bad enough, the 2nd was completely unrealistic knowing the amount of work they still required compared to their competitors! Yes, I (would have) recommended this employer in the past, No, I would not recommend now. 

Highly recommend looking into multiple different companies if you want this type of work. They have (by far) the most work &  yet pay the same as others that have no where near the time demand (you can complete your charts IN the homes at other companies !)  just do your research ! You’ll be glad you did 

I don't recommend working here. Most people appear unhappy in their real life so they bring it to the job where they have little power to abuse. Everyone is very negative about the company and the ways they have been treated by the leadership team (THIS IS THEIR CAREER). Despite the rhetoric, people come last after profit and process. The top management believe the way to get the most out of people is to beat them with a stick constantly, finding every opportunity to take money away from people and beat them down. They seem to think that their employees should be grateful just to have a low paid job and nothing more. There is no attempt to make people feel like they are part of the company (ONLY FAVORITES), people here are supposed to just feel grateful. Every decision is based on whether the company can save a few pennies. Management take the view that everyone should do as they say, not as they do. All in all it's an inhumane, robotic, miserable place to work. Better management is needed to make it a place where people actually want to come to work. Literally everyone resents the company and their job which makes for a very difficult working environment.
At the end of the day I need to be transparent this place is awful and needs to change. No one is happy and no one cares or at least it seems that way. A happy worker is a good worker! If your respected you'll get more done as well! The culture needs to change BUT NOT WITH CURRENT FOLKS IN CHARGE ITS A CULT!!

This company has several issues with being corrupt from Medicare and Medcaid Compliance issues. I reported to my supervisor a computer issue/error that was forcing and diagnosis in their program if it was clicked as a past diagnosis. . ( I don't know if they are paid for it or not.)  Which we are required to report,  a simple "I will look into it." is all that was needed. According to their policy I was to report it to her first. She then retaliated immediately reporting me for saying something to her supervisor. I told her I will just call the compliance line! She then retaliated further by canceling my contract. I asked for a copy of my last invoice for Tax purposes after that. They continued to retaliate and be argumentative stating it could not be sent. Then as proof they could send it and to be difficult they sent a PDF file of a prior invoice.  They were deliberately dishonest. They also did not pay me for all the completed assessments I did! They have major ethics issues on Compliance regulations and retaliation. They also stated it was not "matric corporate culture" to care about the patients we saw and trafficking risks.  This including helping them with social issues such as housing loss! I do care about my patients so I did not fit their corporate culture. One month was enough to know I don't fit "in."

Company strongly lacks conviction, order and equality. The management team proves that every time someone threatens to leave/quit...they are then offered positions otherwise they would have never been offered but Good For Them who wants to be stuck in a dead end? You will be constantly under scrutiny/monitored call after call after call, short breaks, short lunch. 
You will learn very little because you're there to just make calls - that's it...no variety no growth, no knowledge just stuck to your chair like a parasite. 
In order to avoid and recover from the revolving door which has hit the company hard speaks very clearly by selling the pipe dream with no reality. Supervisors have no growth in the company, departments have no respect for the other. There are incentives but honestly just not enough to keep people in the company furthermore there is a lot of tension and every time you see someone in a position they bullied their way into just shows desperation if you are the type of person who has a choice take it. This is a job for those of us who need a paycheck as we move on. A job like this requires a much better pay scale. I thought this was going to be a job I would never want to leave but after 2 months I couldn't think of anything more. Pay raises have been set in place but it doesn't feel very good - every thing just becomes harder, more pressure and less appreciated. Sorry but it's the truth!!

I don't think that Matrix is aware that without good nurse practitioners, they have nothing.  There is no sharing of the wealth with the people who make the wealth possible.  For NP week, we were insulted with a $5 Starbucks gift card that we had to download and print!  over the holidays, we received a $15 Amazon gift card. And wait for it..., every NP received a salary cut of 10% with an "incentive" program that if you worked even harder than you have been working, you can come close to making what you are currently making, minus extra 25% tax cut because it is considered a "bonus."
The management and leadership folks are very happy and making bonuses off of the worker bees' production.
The schedules are horrendous. If you have a cancellation, you have to call in and wait for the schedulers to find you a replacement.
There are no extra compensations for any extras that you do.
Can't fault a company for making good business decisions, but share the wealth with the people who are making your wealthy lifestyle possible.
In regards to the company car...Hello!!! you are paying for it! You would make more money if they paid your mileage.
