Speaking for the office I was in particularly; there has been 100% turnover for the recruiters (4 recruiters) and nearly 50% turnover in the entire office with another person leaving in another job family only within less than 2 months. Consistent turnover with the recruiting team is normal for this office from what I've learned. The way this office has trended over a long period of time with recruiter turnover makes it a not-so ideal office for someone that is looking to grow. The operations team, for the gross majority, can’t seem to get recruiters to stay over the past 4-5 years which is essential to a growing office and to a growing professional in the office. It's very difficult growing professionally in an office like this because even when the office might have opportunities way in the future, the style of management will guarantee that recruiters will keep leaving around their 1 year mark, or sooner as time has shown, so it will be nearly impossible to keep the office growing the way it can and should which stunts your growth as well.

Constant micromanaging, which is extremely defeating. The amount of micromanaging and distrust from management down to the recruiters in this office makes it a very negative and discouraging work environment for the recruiters. Leaving recruiters feeling burnt out, not trusted, and not capable of doing their jobs. We need managements support to get there, someone to lead and guide us, not micromanage.

Meetings are 2 hours long and they can very easily be cut down to an hour, everyone in the office agrees because it’s been openly spoken about amongst office team members, but the ops manager is the one leading the meetings to go so long, because its mostly that person speaking the majority of the meeting. Sometimes it's difficult to get a word in during these meetings because of this. There is a lot of work to keep up with so spending 4 hours of your day just in 2 meetings talking in circles makes it near impossible. Days like this, I'm staying later than usual and having to work outside of my normal hours, which goes unappreciated and ignored when it comes time to talk about everything we're doing wrong.

Regardless of Maxim being a for profit business, we are hired on knowing empathy is essential for this position, but management doesn't practice what they preach. Money seems to be the only driving factor, it is very apparent to client and caregivers, and they are turned off by it. Management forcing things for office financial gain, regardless of it not being the best decision, has caused employee, caregiver, and unfortunately client unhappiness/back lash. Clients and caregivers have reported concerns that our operations manager is pushy when it comes to options that are not the best choice for the them but they are "convinced" to do it anyways, only ultimately leaving them upset with the result and a recruiter taking the angry phone call about it later followed by the recruiter having to do the brunt of the cleanup work.

Discouraged to take a lunch break. We're scheduled for 45 hours a week while being paid for 40 hours a week. That means we're allotted an hour a day for a lunch break. On my first week, I was told we get a 30 min break max and to tell him if we're going to go over the 30 min and that it should only be on occasion, which was not true because we are supposed to get an hour. I've actually been told by my manager that breaks are optional and that if you're really busy, not to take one. This is clear lack of training on MA employment law for managers because taking a lunch break is absolutely not optional for both hourly and salaried employees.

The "Team Rule" is a very good idea but team members in the office have noticed that management doesn't do well with criticism from internal office team members. Any con towards any idea, process, etc is not taken well from management. Concerns and difficulties for certain processes and ideas are supposed to prompt a conversation on how we can overcome these concerns and recruiting difficulties. Con's aren't acknowledged, only the pro's and instead of improving on the con's, they're ignored. Issues we're having and the reasons for why we're struggling are important and shouldn't be ignored. We're never heard for this and I can confidently say this is one of the offices biggest downfalls and a big contributor for losing so many people in the office in such a short period of time.

Unfortunately, all of these concerns have built up and caused significant turnover in more than just one job family. This leaves the office with mostly just managers left.

I worked with Maxim as a Behavior Technician and worked with the company 2 separate times. The first time I was working with one client in the home setting and I enjoyed working with my client. Unfortunately I left for a few reasons. The first was when I joined the company the BCBA was never there for support and after she was fired, the new one didn't really give any feedback. He was just sort of there during sessions. The second had to do with my lack of hours due to cancellations. My client cancelled a minimum of once a week. There was actually a time I went two weeks without working and no at Maxim seemed to care. I brought the multiple to the manager and BCBA, I was told there was no policy in place for cancellations. The majority of ABA companies provide policies like this to protect the BT's to not lose their hours often and to ensure that clients are receiving the hours they are supposed to have. I wasn't offered another client, so this job wasn't worth it to me because I wasn't able to be financially stable. 

I later returned with Maxim Healthcare Services in a different location and was informed that in home therapy wasn't a service anymore, but instead service was in the school setting. I decided to give Maxim another try because I felt as if the school setting would be more consistent and I believed with my RBT certification I would be valued. Turns out neither of these statements turned out to be true. I wasn't offered much of a salary increase compared to what I earned before even though I have 2 years of experience as a BT, have my certification, and I'm bilingual. I decided I was just going to stick with the job because I was offered what was supposed to be consistent hours, but after a month of working with a client he no longer was going to attend the school he was at. I spent almost two weeks showing up every day to see if he would ( I was unaware at that time he was pulled out) and after I was told he was no long at his school, I went 7 weeks without working. Even within those 2 weeks of waiting to see if my client would go to school, I was only offered 2 sub sessions. Those sub sessions were also 20+ away from me and I was sent during rush hour. I was only offered .50 per mile and no pay for having to wait an hour in traffic. I was promised another client, but it turns out they didn't need me. I basically went 2 months without working because the days I showed up to see if my client was there I was only paid for an hour. Maxim did not do a good job of helping me have a consistent schedule, but what made it worse I didn't have a manager to go to. Both of the ones who I was assigned to quit. This also happened the first time I started working with them. I also was told I would be able to have RBT supervision, but when I told the BCBA I had my certification she said she couldn't supervise me. She had over 100+ clients. Maxim shouldn't have told me that because I chose them over a company that also offered supervision and was offering more money. I decided to go for Maxim because I wanted to continue working in the school setting (the other company was in home only).

I personally think the company needs to work on being consistent not only with assigning cases, but making sure managers and recruiters stay. It's hard having to switch around and not having a consistent person to talk to. They also need to be sure about what they're talking about because I got false information a number of times.  I really don't like to complain, but I want to warn other people about what they're getting themselves into.

I enjoy working here. The work is low stress, the pace is much slower than a hospital, and there is a lot of downtime which is perfect if you get overwhelmed easily. There are definitely busy shifts where things happen, but for the most part, patients are stable and its predictable routine. If you find an assignment where you love the patient and their family, its literally a dream job. Zero work stress. If you're feeling burned out by the chaos of bedside nursing or prefer a calmer work environment, this can be a great fit. One of the advantages is the flexibility... you can generally choose your patients, decline assignments that aren't a good fit, and create a schedule that works for you. If youre in a high population area, there seems to be a lot of cases to choose from. The pay is fair for the work and comparable to other nursing positions in my area.

One area that could definitely be improved is communication. There were occasions where I arrived to meet or orient with a patient and the current nurse had no idea I was coming. I've had nurses arrive to train with me without warning. Once a nurse was sent to shadow me after I had only worked a single shift with that patient. I was still learning the patient's routine myself and was being trained by the parent, so I wasn't in a position to train someone else. 

The biggest downside for me was the lack of benefits which is unfortunate because I would stay forever otherwise. There is no PTO, no holiday pay, no affordable health insurance, and you are only paid for the hours you work. I haven't ever gotten a raise, it seems pay is pre-determined per assignment, thats what I was told. If your patient is hospitalized or leaves town, or theres school breaks (for school assignments) you don't have pay unless theres coincidentally another case needing coverage at that time and its all arranged perfectly, but it's never worked out that way for me. If its a last minute shift cancellation, which 95% of them were, it is impossible to find a replacement shift.  While the flexibility is amazing, the benefit package and lack of work hour stability made it difficult for me to stay full time which I am very sad about because I thought I finally found my niche. I would have happily remained in a full time role if the benefits had been more competitive, but instead I'll only be working PRN. 

I think this position is ideal for nurses who are looking for PRN work, have health insurance through a spouse or another employer, are covered through a school plan, are retired but want to keep working some hours, or simply want a lower stress job while deciding on their next career move. I will definitely consider returning full time if I find another way to obtain at least affordable health insurance coverage. It's actually extremely depressing and demeaning to work as a nurse without having  the same access to healthcare as your own patients and management (they are offered different better benefits than us) 

Overall, I would recommend this job for the flexibility, autonomy, and work life balance. If the company improved communication and offered more competitive benefits for full time employees, I think it would significantly improve both the employee experience and nurse retention.

Overall, I had a good experience working at Maxim HC. I was a Recruiter for almost 2 years and the position WITHOUT A DOUBT has its ups and downs at times. Healthcare staffing is a challenging industry, but the work is rewarding and it's so gratifying to be able to help medically disabled patients and their families. I always had an interest in social work so I loved helping the patients and families we serviced. All the office staff work together "in the pit" which basically means we sit together in an open setting and not in cubicles. Even managers would sit with us at times which was nice to see. I liked this a lot because we could all work together and talk to one another whenever we wanted. It was a team environment and the culture was fun. 

In my position I primarily hired nurses which isn't easy, so the work was tough at times but when doing well I was always recognized by peers and managers for my hard work. I worked really hard, but some of the other recruiters I worked with did not work as hard so it was frustrating at times. If office staff were not producing results and were slacking, the managers challenged them to work harder which is expected. I saw some negative reviews about the managers and those must have been from the recruiters that were just in there not working hard and trying to coast by and collect a pay check. This is NOT the company for coasting so if thats what you want to do STAY CLEAR OF MAXIM! You need to work hard and if you do your recognized for it. Being there 2 years, I witnessed some turnover in the office but other offices had turnover too. My position was more of an entry-level role, so others would leave if they were not doing well and didn't see promotional opportunities in their future. The office manager and the recruitment manager were very supportive and focused on my development. I was on track to most likely get promoted but an opportunity came up to make more $$$$$ and to work from home so I had to take it. Maxim is always looking for sales-minded employees who work hard and are hungry. You don't see a lot of recruiters at Maxim stay in the same position more than 2 years because if they are good then they'll get promoted and if they aren't good enough to get promoted the recruiter position is tough and demanding so it's tough to stay in that same position for a long time. I couldn't see myself working as a recruiter for a long time so I had to take the opportunity that came up and who doesn't want to make more $? 

I'd without a doubt recommend Maxim (and especially this office location) to anyone who is motivated to work hard but also likes to have a good time in the office making friends and has a sense of humor. The industry can be tough at times but the office environment made it fun and the work is rewarding. If you want to make 6 figures, Maxim isn't for you but if you want to make decent money and gets some good experience I'd recommend it. 

Maxim Healthcare Services is a company that provides excellent coverage of special needs children. On a daily basis (depending on the child) I would either drive to their home or pick them up from school then take them to the current destination of the day (typically their home). Each child has paperwork that has daily goals that I must achieve. One example would be something such as helping a child with Cerebral Palsy use a head-tracking system for X amount of time. Due to healthcare laws I can not speak of what I have actually done and with whom though.

The hardest part of the job is helping the children achieve specific goals that they dislike. It makes the goals that much harder but with experience you learn how to overcome these obstacles. 
The most enjoyable part is when you surpass specific goals and seeing the children's face. It is what I live for. 

The management is good. Due to their policy they must visit you at least once a couple of months. Some of these coordinators are better with that than others. 

To elaborate on the cons, each child has paperwork. As stated above, the paperwork has their goals and you must write after each goal how the child performed that day. This paperwork ranges from 3-10+ pages depending on the disorder of the child. On the back of each page are large blank squares where you elaborate on what happened. Everything must be dated and timed correctly. Also, at the end of each week you need a signature of a parent or guardian. Even though the paperwork can be a pain I understand its use. What I do not understand is the fact that these things need to be delivered back to the company's mailbox. Maxim covers all of Wake County but is located in Raleigh. So if you live and work with clients in Fuquay-Varina you must still make a trip once a week to deliver your paperwork or you will not be paid. I was hoping there would be a way to fax or just do this digitally but it is not possible.

Also, pay is divided into three categories: Skill-building, personal care, respite. Each child is allotted X amount for each category but the pay decreases with skill-building being highest and respite being the lowest. Unfortunately, when children have days off though the allotted hours can change for the worse. For example, the child has one caregiver for 6 hours regularly with 4 hours of skill and 2 hours of personal care. On his day off though he may have 12 hours of coverage which requires 2 caregivers but instead of each getting 4 hours of skill and 2 hours of personal they now split it down the middle and whatever remaining hours comes from respite. Now this is NOT Maxim's fault and is actually Medicare's. But unfortunately this is passed down to you.

I feel conflicted about my time at Maxim. I had two different managers with Maxim, as well as my ever-changing onsite managers. That wound up being difficult, knowing who to report to and who could answer questions knowledgeably. For the most part, I was paid fairly, but without benefits. I got hired at $45/hour, went up to $60, then it went back to $45, so the pay swings were significant.

I worked 3 hours (one way) from where I lived, so I was originally given paid travel to secure a hotel or furnished apartment. (Any travel back home on the weekends is on your own dime.) The contracts ran a few months a time and then got extended, but the terms of the contracts would change without warning, including the hourly rate and reimbursement for travel. One of my friends stopped being reimbursed for the place she rented out of town entirely.  Maxim stopped reimbursing for meals at some point (they raised our pay to make up for it, but then lowered it again), made us start showing proof that we had the cheapest rental car available, etc. None of that is unreasonable - if those were the terms you had agreed to. However, they mostly just changed without warning when they'd explain that you can't get reimbursed for your rental car this month.

I had to check my pay and reimbursement constantly because they were frequently wrong, to the point I had to maintain a spreadsheet of what I'd invoiced vs. what I was paid to constantly track whether they'd caught up. 

My first Maxim manager barely responded to my messages/emails and sent threatening emails to groups of people about working enough overtime. I found these emails to be inappropriate because it was often contrary to what the client wanted and sometimes more than the workload warranted. Later, we were told we weren't even ALLOWED to work overtime without getting written permission in advance, so that was weird. However, my second manager was great and I LOVED her. I'd love to work with her again at some point.

Overall, I would recommend Maxim --temporarily. It was great pay, but the stress was quite impactful to my life and emotional wellbeing. I'm glad I did it, because I had great experience, learned a lot, earned a lot, and worked with some wonderful people, but I'm glad to be out now. Please consider how much stability you need in your life, and how you feel about reporting to many different people at a time. You need to be confident in your ability to communicate and strive to keep everyone looped in.

I will also say I worry how much the Texas taxpayers are paying for these contracts. 

Maxim was fun to work for in the first year or so. After the first year and hearing about their big push and the thing that they pride themselves on; "personal development" and "advancement/promotion" within, the waiting game for the personal development time got old and swept under the rug when it was mentioned or spoke about to management. Management was so preoccupied with conference calls and reports they had no other time to provide personal development to others and help them advance. I don't necessarily blame management for that, but if the corporate office boasts about that being a BIG important part of the organization, then one would think more time towards it would be allocated. I'm not the type of personal that needs a constant pat on the back or helping hand.... but after a while at Maxim it felt like I was looked at and treated like as easily replaceable even after contributing quite a bit to the overall success of the branch. Promotion is talked about from the time you come on and given a 2 year window at which point they look at it like "well, your promotion window of 2 years is up, we didn't have anything to promote you to in this office or think you would do ok with relocating, so.... just keep working in your position" ....(again brushed under the rug.) The corporate structure is a mess, there is so much red tape it almost hampers you from doing your job and the overhead for each branch to corporate was astronomical for the branch to be able to grow as regional and office goals were set to. I say that also with promotion opportunities that I saw as well... and I like to use the example... you're given a ship that can make it to the moon, but yet you're expectations are to be able to take it to Pluto. You're also blamed for market trends and aspects that are completely out of your control and instead of corporate or regional level management changing and adapting goals and forecasts to the current market situations, you're told in your position that is the lowest in the company and pays the least that it's your job to 'make it happen' and 'find a way' with no extra compensation or incentive to really do so. It just gets exhausting after awhile and feels like a dead end/non career type job. Great to get experience in a variety of different aspects of business functions on a branch and somewhat corporate level, not so much for advancement up the ladder.

Maxim's an old school company built on authentic relationships, hard work, rolling your sleeves up and grinding stuff out when needed, having fun when you can, and celebrating wins..or it used to be.  

Maxim's in a weird spot right now trying to catch up to these new very modern tech based companies and I feel that in many ways we've lost what made us special and different from other staffing agencies making us in this weird middle point where people are encouraged to use the CRM and put notes in rather than just call people and figure out problems.  

They also have changed the approach from being promoted because you've thoroughly earned it to what seemingly feels like a promote if they follow instructions correctly and do what they're told approach.  There's so many new managers with bad support systems and too much on their plates and in a post covid world with rates droppign and people looking to cut budget I see a lot of those promotions quitting over the next couple years.  They just frankly are not prepared for what's to be expected of them and will be met with passive aggressive KPI driven responses these days v actually having a genuine conversation about real concerns.   This shows when you go into any maxim office and there's like 2-3 offices with a bunch of random junk and boxes and various stuff people just don't have time for. 

They also are stuck between a post covid hybrid/remote company and a "you better be in the office every day" company approach, you can just feel they DO NOT WANT people working from home.  We just had 2 amazing years in a row and proved we can work from wherever.  Why make it an issue?  Going to lose a ton of talent there.  

No real paternity/maternity plan they just encourage using all your PTO, very vague and people who need to know these policies barely know them and tell you to email employee relations who is just a faceless inbox who gives thumbs ups and thumbs downs arbitrarily.  

There is also an unspoken talent to tolerance ratio thing going on 100% with a bit of boys club thing. They try and roll out all these new diversity and inclusion initiatives which is ironic because the top 10% of the company probably openly mocks those initiatives. Have heard first person obscene things on a regular basis because they assume I'm "ok" to talk about that around. 

Ultimately you can absolutely do this job a few years, make pretty good money, make great life long friends, and have a pretty good time..but it just isn't what I can see myself doing for the rest of my life.

I've been with Maxim for five years now and have worked for three different area branches, so feel that I have a pretty well-rounded opinion of how things operate. I work for Maxim primarily because I appreciate the flexibility of schedule - the upside is you can make your own schedule and hours and are able to adjust as needed. The downside is there is little to no paid time off when you need to take time off for any reason. They give the state minimum hours for sick time, but at 24 hours annually, if you work 12-hr shifts, your whole yearly allotment is gone in two working days. They claim that PTO can be accrued but every quarter when it comes time to use it, I'm told that I'm not eligible for one reason or another. So basically - work when you want - but don't count on any ability to be paid if and when you would like to take time off. The pay rate is not competitive. I understand that a lot of this depends on each patient's benefits reimbursement for home health care, but regardless, the fact remains that the pay is subpar which I think is the main reason they struggle to recruit and retain staff. You don't receive annual merit increases - you basically have to call your recruiter and try to petition for more money. And I've been told that despite having the highest markings possible on my annual evaluations every year, that I cannot receive a raise because I "already make too much" and my patient's insurance doesn't pay enough to afford to increase my hourly rate. So since 2020, as the cost of living has ballooned and inflation has soared, I have received not a penny more. Maxim's benefits are offensively expensive. Premiums are insanely high - the most I've ever heard of from any company I've ever worked for. I was able to get benefits through my husband's employer thankfully because I would have never been able to afford them through Maxim. Communication between the branch admin and field staff has improved over the years but still has room for improvement. You really have to follow up and be a squeaky wheel to get any issue resolved. But again, it's better than it has been historically. The patients and patient families that I have worked with have all been amazing though. I have always had wonderful experiences which balances out some of the frustrating aspects of the company. Having a job where you enjoy what you do is worth more than just the money you make - and in that regard, Maxim is great - I have adored all of the families that I have worked with and my patients (primarily pediatric) have been such a joy to provide care for. 

short version: one on one patient care. poor pay. pay out of pocket benefits, no PTO. considered PRN not full time. patient hospitalized you will not be paid. staff/managers/co- workers average.

typical Patients: One on one patient care for pediatric and adult patients with development disabilities. They usually have g and/or j tubes; tracheostomy's; and/or ventilators. most are non ambulatory so expect to use Hoyer lifts, wheelchairs. most have normal beds.
 
typical day: Think CNA/PCT work as well as working as a nurse. you give medication as well as personal care such as bed baths, diaper changes, cleaning room, doing laundry.

what I learned: Home health agencies will try to pay you as least as possible. I learned no new nursing skills but they will train you in skills you need if you lack them.

Management:  average. I see them upon hiring, once a year for evaluation. they don't really care about you. Case manager is knowledgeable and will help when you call or email. If there is a problem they expect you to fix it.

workplace culture: case manger needs to be updated and its usually you since other nurses don't feel the need to call them to update them even though the event happened on their shift. so its all you, but managers will appreciate you for that.

hardest part of job: when you get your extremely small pay check weekly. very weakly.(think 1/2 of what a hospital would pay you) no additional pay for nights or weekends. if your patient is hospitalized you don't get paid, unless you pick up another emergency or fill in case.

most enjoyable part of job: seeing your client smile, keeping them happy, safe and out of hospital. There is ALWAYS work if your willing to drive anywhere to get it.

CEO: I don't approve of them because anyone who works for a company that pays so poorly, and offers no or expensive employee out of pocket pay benefits to nurses is padding their own pocket ad the companies at the expense of the workers. They do nothing to fight for a better work environment. Give us a better salary and benefits and paid time off and I can support you. A minimum nursing job pay rate should be 3 to 4 times the minimum wage, 100 percent health coverage, and two weeks vacation.

That being said, I work for this company for me because I have to take care of a family member and the hours and location work with that. otherwise I would work somewhere else.
