McAngus Goudelock and Courie

Part-timers work 30 hours and full-timers work 37.5 hours, so 7.5 hours per week is the only difference, yet part-time employees get absolutely nothing. No PTO, no sick days, no holidays, no bonuses, no health insurance, no dental, literally nothing. The hourly pay is also extremely low. I was hired with a degree, 6 years of relevant work experience, and a second degree in progress, and they paid me $12 an hour. 

Corporate is awful. They are rarely here in person and have no idea how anything works here, yet they are always sending out random pointless demands that don’t help improve anything at all. For example, cutting every full-time employee’s hours to 37.5 per week maximum with a mandatory unpaid lunch hour, with little to no warning. On the rare days that they are here in person, they don’t respect boundaries or personal space/belongings. They have gone into multiple employees cubicles and messed with, misplaced, lost, and broken several of their personal items. For example, recently they decided that no one is allowed to hang anything on their cubicle walls anymore, and they decided to wait until the late afternoon of July 3rd to announce this, while almost everyone was out of office for the holiday. Instead of giving people a chance to come back to work and remove their own photos and artwork, they began ripping them off THE SAME AFTERNOON, which damaged both the walls and the employees’ photos. Another example is when they decided to “help” unpack employees’ personal boxes the weekend after office renovations when no one else was there, and they lost multiple belongings, some of which were never recovered. 

On the positive side, the work is usually manageable, the dress code is casual, and the office atmosphere is relatively relaxed on most days. A lot of the full-timers seem to be fairly happy here, but I would definitely not recommend taking a part-time position here.


Management was super helpful and willing to lend a hand when necessary. The culture was great from what I experienced of it, even as a remote worker during the pandemic. The company often did little things to make you feel appreciated, such as employee gifts and gift cards during the holidays. My role itself was more of an over-flow position where I was just taking random tasks from different people to help fill in the gaps so no one had to work crazy hours (on salary, without overtime) so I think as a company they really care about work-life balance. Overall I likely would've stayed if the tasks were more challenging or if there was a clear path for me to move up.

I really loved almost everything about MGC!  My co-workers for the most part were fantastic, the attorneys were mostly down to earth, there wasn't a divide between attorneys and staff that seems to exist at most firms.  The only issue I saw while there was the "Upper management clique".  Although it generally didn't affect me or my work product, I did see the ramifications of its existence and saw people get pushed out due to personality conflicts with someone "in the clique".  Even with that being said, individually I got along with all of them, however as a group I saw the behavior and wished the management committee would intervene.

Some perks like gift cards for hitting goals.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Although there is training, there is a lot to be desired.  Each location is its own and operates as such.  Communication with home office is severely lacking.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Nice offices. Business casual dress code.

Loved working at MGC - made many friends and worked hard.  Was forced out by backstabbing management partners who came in to deconstruct the litigation department and change the culture. Typical day involved typing my fingers to the bone and then going home.  There was no hard part of my job.  I enjoyed my job, but I felt used and lied to by management.

Co-workers were friendly, but employers higher up look out for themselves and their families. I was let go because of someone's son wanting my job. They hired me, used me to get their company and firm up to date and caught up, then let me train this boy only to give him my position because his mom worked higher up. I felt used. I loved working there, but they have dirty people working higher up.

There was no direction from supervising attorneys. There was not enough work to go around and new employees were punished for it. In the beginning the partners create this false sense that the firm is different than other large firms and that they actually care about you and your success. This is completely false. 

Not an overall bad place, Senior Partners are extremely nice.  The HR department is lacking.  You have a since they really don't care about you unless you are part of the "click".  Yes, this place at times seems like high school.  At times I did not find it to have professional atmosphere or that they were welling to assist staff in professional growth.

It’s great for flexibility and adaptability, but they think since they allow such flexibility that they can pay you way less and not care about you. No recognition for accomplishments, birthdays or milestones. And very corporate driven answers when asked why. 

Overall I was not satisfied with the management or the lack of attorney/paralegal communication. The stress level is high and work life balance is non-existent.
