I've worked here for a year and I'm so burnt out. They never have enough staff, the nurses are treated like they never do enough work. The nursing station is on one side of the building only on one floor, so you have to do a lot of walking. Residents act like they are entitled and ask you to do EVERYTHING for them, even if they can do it themselves. There's residents that are so badly declined that they should be elsewhere, but all this place cares about is money. Several places in the building will and have been under repair for MONTHS. The maintence people never fix things in a reasonable amount of time. There's several places that have been painted white, not the color of the walls, and still not have been painted over even though it's been well over a month. The food is constanly complained about, and there's been no adjustments. Even though they have a resident food meeting every month. The food is expensive (10 dollars for a burger and fries and the drink is not included). It just feels like nothing changes until you say you'll quit if something doesn't changed. The walkies suck, the pagers are barely ever working and management knows about it but has never fixed it. I'm so ready to start my new job. Trust me, don't work here.

The work is easy, most of the residents are pleasant and look forward to seeing you, your coworkers feel like family, and the McCrite family is amazing to work for. But management is problematic and despite multiple complaints and grievances, nothing has been done to change and no apologies have been made. The managers are condescending, sarcastic, and just plain mean. Training varies by who they assign you to learn from, which sets you up from the beginning to do at least a few things wrong. If you are a hard worker expect to get in trouble for not doing the slackers jobs for them. You are made to feel stupid on a daily basis and get treated like you’re replaceable. 

At the end of the day it’s a great facility for the residents, and maybe if you were in a different department things would be better. But in my opinion the way the dietary department is run does not reflect the standards of the rest of the company (as of March 2019 when I left)

Senior managements opinions never mattered to administration. Profit was always placed above patient safety and well being. Very disheartening workplace environment. Very poor home/work life balance despite what the owners preached. In fact they were really good at preaching on thing and practicing another.  I bent over backwards so many times for them…. Yet nothing I did was ever noticed let alone good enough for them. The building is beautifully run by a family that sells its business on the ruze of “ Age in place” “family matters” yet staff are treated poorly. It’s almost like the owners go out of their way to spend as little on their staff as possible. then expect you to turn around and sell their concept of perfection..The decision was made to leave after the “administrator” screamed in my face. 

Pay is low, $16/hr for CNAs, but ratios are amazing. The rehab side is typically 30:4 on day shift and evening shift, 30:2 on nights, same with the LTC side. The facility itself is clean, smells clean, and is well stocked, residents are well cared for. 

That said, it *is* a nursing home. It's going to have nursing home problems. Staff calling in or not showing up, short staffing sometimes, management/administration never coming out of their offices to help, only to berate, some nurses not helping (though this was actually surprisingly not very common here), hard work earns you more work, etc.

But for all of the general issues, this is one of the best nursing homes in the Topeka area to work for. I am genuinely proud to work here, and would put my own family in here. 

There is a lot to say but to be brief, management makes the job more stressful than what it really is. Also the residents family members treat you like you are beneath them, as well as other staff in different departments. There are absolutely no benefits except high health insurance and dental and vision. You are treated as if you’re replaceable, even though the turn over rate is through the roof. And last but not least there is so much pettiness and disrespect floating in the air it’s ridiculous.

Horrible environment. Owners do NOT care about the residents, they only want the money. 
Disgusting conditions in the dietary area (old food, dirty containers, etc.).
Management is not encouraging of new ideas, favoritism is rampant throughout. 
Racism and bigotry are tolerated, with no repercussions if those boundaries are overstepped. 
Major holidays are not compensated, and the pay is low. 
If you complain to the director(s) and/or owners, you might as well say goodbye - you'll be fired.
DO NOT WORK HERE!

I worked at McCrite for 6months, the first month was hard cause everybody was quitting and I was left to work extra hard by myself no help from the Charge nurse  she didn’t even wanna come in to help.... they will work u to death... beg you to come in so they won’t have to... then give u a .39 raise they do not recognize you when you cover their buts to make sure everything rush’s smoothly they maintenance workers don’t do nothing but sit at the desk and watch the cameras and gossip... the bosses just sit back and gossip about other employees it’s just terrible... no help there for Christmas they fed the residents sack lunches like REALLY!!!

McCrite Plaza in Topeka, Ks. Has been the best company that I have worked for in the past 30 years. Unlike corporate companies, they are not all about the numbers. McCrite is family owned and they truly care about their residents and staff.
Health Care jobs are very demanding on all of the employees who choose to work in the field. All jobs can be difficult at times. If you have a good work ethic and care for and about your residents, you will be treated well too.
McCrite Plaza will always hold a close space next to my heart!

Out of all the LTC facilities in this area, McCrite's is the BEST! Clean and good food. 8 hour shifts for staff. 4 days on 2 days off so you always know your schedule and can actually feel rested. Management that actually cares and tries to make things better or resolve issues. You don't feel like you are totally on your own if something difficult comes up. Management also tries to have a lot of activities and special days for the residents and the staff. The good outweighs anything "bad". I am being paid well.

There management skills lack all they do is sit in there office very comfy..They treat resident's good but employee like not so good.The work environment is level 10 stressful... You might need therepy after working there. The nurses leave you alone to do all the work by yourself.The charge nurses sit in there office and gossip allll day..The food is not good and expensive and the kitchen workers always have an attitude!! Making resident's wait forever for the food..
