Work-life balance
Work-life balance at Meadville Medical Center is fair. MMC does not support their employees needs. Especially when personal issues arise.  Employees are not given any consideration or  leniency for personal issues or responsibilities even when they involve family. You are penalized for these issues instead of supported. Work loads are heavy.  You are expected to do the job of two or more people within a 40 hour work week.

Pay & benefits
My pay and benefits at Meadville Medical Center are not enough for the amount of work expected in a 40 hour work week. Overtime is not permitted at all. If you go over your hours even 15 minutes you are reprimand and even written up for it. The amount of work expected to be completed is impossible in a 40 hour work week. Employees often work off the clock to try to keep up or complete their work.

Job security and advancement
In terms of job security at Meadville Medical Center, you are just a number to them, and are treated like such. When you bend over backward to help MMC or the patients you are not rewarded financially. You are penalized for it in your annual review especially when you are putting the patients needs first. Your annual review is the only time you have a chance for advancement unless you are applying for another position. They make it very difficult to get raises. However, they do give everyone a small cost of living increase each year.

Management
In general, managers at Meadville Medical Center do not support you. If you go to Human Resources for anything, HR notifies your supervisors that you went to HR and tell them what you went to them for. Afterwards this is used against you and you are targeted until they can get rid of you. I have see this happen over and over again to my colleagues. This is a defendant pattern that is occurring within MMC. Once it starts it does not stop. The employee does not have any support from HR at all.

Culture
Collaboration with my colleagues at Meadville Medical Center is difficult if you are trying to work with a team or an individual. If you go in with a positive attitude and a willingness to help you are targeted.  Supervisors do not have your back. In fact they use your coworkers to help work against you. Bulling is often used by the supervisors. It is a very unprofessional environment.  Supervisors play favorites and stir the pot. Team meetings are not conducted professionally. Patients, Doctors, and Staff Members are made fun of, disrespected, and worst of all HIPPA is often broken despite the seriousness nature of the situation. Most team meetings are treated as a gossip session by the supervisors and the team. If you choose not to comment or participate during the meeting/gossip session you are talked to by your supervisor and even written up for it.

Overall
My experience working at Meadville Medical Center has tough me you cannot trust anyone at MMC. There are some good people who do work at MMC. Unfortunately, the bad ones make it very difficult for the good ones to exist there. The good workers are often forced to leave MMC or they are fired. Patients with private insurance are often kept longer in the hospital than necessary to make more money for the hospital. When advocating for the best interest of the patient, if the plan of care does not make the hospital the most money you are told not to do it.  Practices can be unethical at times and best practice is not used in most cases. If the supervisor does not like the patient, the patient's requests are denied even if they are in the patient's best interest. I would not recommend working at Meadville Medical Center.  If you do, it will seem good at first, but after 6 months to a year things often go down hill from there. If you do accept a job with MMC plan on making it a short term plan and keep looking for other employment opportunities.

The place is a circus with way too many people acting like ring leaders. The training is a joke, the pay is a joke and the people treat you like you are beneath them. Everyone has cliques like if you were back in high school and someone is always talking about someone else or they are arguing over ridiculous things or gossiping about patients and nobody bats an eye. I The respect in this place is non existent. Funny part is there's anti workplace violence posters everywhere (laughable) It's like they hired every mean, evil person they could find and put them all in the same building on purpose. The nursing staff is no better. Every single day they are up there being the most unhelpful, rude, obnoxious, gossipy mean people I've ever encountered. They will push you to your limit. I would hate to have an emergency and have those people care for me.

I loved the work I did on a daily basis. I enjoyed the co-worker relationships I had made. I found that I started disliking the job when I felt I took on a lot of responsibility with little recognition. Expectations and standards are different for each person. Expressing any kind of concern ended up with management aggressively handling problems and ended up with the entire department getting misconstrued stories. There was no privacy. Whatever management knew, everyone in the department knew soon after. I felt defeat on a daily basis. Human resources will ignore normal employees when conflict arises. The wrong people are leading at Meadville Medical Center causing a lot of hard-working people to seek other opportunities. 

I work in a very small and cramped 256 square foot outpatient oncology pharmacy. We have a USP797 complaint clean room with gowning/ante room but our space is extremely limited. Room temperature varies widely between 50 and 80 degrees on any given day. Refrigerator and other electrical run very loudly contributing to distracting noise. We prepare chemotherapy and other outpatient IV therapies but we see 80% of our patients between 8am and 12 noon due to physician work schedules. Concerns that have been voiced regarding working conditions and schedules go unheeded by management. My hours are quite good; Mon-Fri 8am-430pm, but despite my best efforts to bring problems to managements' attention, still much needs improvement.

Typical day in the ER, short staffed, unrealistic expectations of staff. Management makes staff feel like they need to do overtime. Poor work/life balance. Not flexible for emergencies.
Learned many new skills, i.e. working a code, iv skills, time management, how to eat lunch at lightening speed, cardiac monitoring, triage.
Co-workers typically work well as a team. Some charge nurses unwilling to help nurses with breaks and new admits.
Hardest part of the job is dealing with poor patient outcome, wait times, and frequent flyers.
Most enjoyable part of the job is the fast pace and opportunities for learning. 
Accidentally put 4 stars for work/life balance, it is more like 2 stars for ER.

Competitive pay/benefits, job is very satisfying professionally, you use your RT knowledge/skills for good patient care. Great coworkers who care about the work they do. great team work except for manager.  The manager is extremely hard to work for. She takes suggestions as a personal attacks and gets vindictive, has very weak RT knowledge.  A lot of change under her that was good, but its from the staff battling her to get it and the carnage is there to prove it. She makes it too hard for dept growth and progress. Its very unfortunate because if different leader, a lot of potential for our field there.  I left SOLEY because of the manager and wish I could have pushed through it, but me and >25 others could not. If she leaves I would come back instantly and so would many others.

Managers of some departments of the hospital were great and others not so much. Great benefits given to employees such as health vision dental and prescription. They pay for your life insurance and offer a fee gym to use as an employee for your health as well as discounts at the YMCA they are partnered. They are also partnered with the Meadville Area Rec where you can get a free pass for yourself as well as family such as your kids and husband/wife. The hardest part of the job was some days were busy at the hospital and others not so busy where they would send people home. The most thing I would say I loved was my fellow co workers they all seemed to be really great and we all got along and enjoyed working together.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Very nice people to work for and with. Pay scale is good for this area.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The same as any other hospital today. Too many senseless regulations imposed by outside certifying bodies. Hospitals are inherently stressful because the health and well-being of people are at risk. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There were cliques within the employee groups. One person totally lacked people skills. She had been sent to special classes to teach her the needed skills several times with no improvement.  She should have been fired.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Rapid pace.

I enjoy what I do very much. There's something to be learned every day. They compensate well with pay, overtime bonuses and benefits. My unit manager is flexible and approachable. The downside is that people outside of our department will overlook you if you're not "high on the totem pole" and others are just plain rude. Some doctors are down to earth and others won't acknowledge you if you're not a nurse. There are a lot of two faced employees however you'll have that anywhere you go. Just be smart in what you share with your coworkers.

Administration and HR at this hospital are a joke. The wages and benefits are competitive but that’s the only positive thing to report. The other staff are pleasant and welcoming like nursing, environmental services, lab and physicians. There are no respiratory policies and protocols which makes the department unorganized and dysfunctional.  The respiratory department is a very unfavorable environment due to the managers lack of professionalism, inexperience and drama. The scheduling is a joke!  The staff members are good people in a bad situation and pitted against one another due to the managers actions.
