Overall, the company operated very well as a big business with one of the largest populations to monitor.  It was operational and productive, not progressive or inventive at the IT level. And unfortunately, its focus was on finances, not population health.  Claims and Billing employees were/are still very satisfied with their experiences; but integrative resource management and managers failed to make fullest use of their Big Data potentials. I am especially surprised how much management from Mid-level to C*Os lacked much knowledge of the details of disease and health itself, and therefore couldn't recognize or take advantage of opportunities.  The potentials were there, but are now lost due to the merger.  The new owner has a different perspective on this business; not focused on PBM as health, but on PBM as business.  Not patient oriented, very product/finance oriented.  This results in more failures at the consumer level for Quality of service, efficacy of care, etc.  In general, advances at the corporate level might still remain, but overall future is hampered by the company's lack of an adequate HIT-GIS background (remapping the US at such a coarse level is a 20 year old skillset); poor use of the population health PHI, the lack of a sufficient mathematical knowledgebase, and no newly trained management are resulting in lack of innovations or best use of resources.  Individuals progress in this environment on their own; I was surprised how little teamwork plays a role.  Outsourcing was used as a replacement for lack of internal personal management and IT skills--making it take 15 months to produce only a prototype for many projects--a big waste of money and time.  Coworkers were very competitive, and not at all team-oriented.  Big Data and Teradata use are what made this work a very valuable opportunity, with future potentials unperceived by the business in general.  That was quite a surprise.

Medco Health Solution was a great company to work for until Express Scripts bought the company and ruin my employment there. I was a victim of Express Scripts big lay-off plans. Medco provided me with great opportunities for internal promotions, great benefits, training, and incentives. I miss Medco very much! I will gladly work for Medco again.

Last Job position- Pharmacy Coordinator;
Most recently, my responsibilities as Pharmacy Coordinator at Medco match the qualifications you are seeking. As the Supervisor, my responsibilities included managerial skills and analytical skills. I assisted in the successful completion of project and training materials. My supervisor also relied on my ability to complete project in a timely manner and to oversee daily operation. I’m proficient in various computer skills, and Six Sigma.

My day to day responsibilities is to over see a team of 120 technicians and 200 Pharmacists. The Pharmacy Coordinator monitors productivity and performance standards, plans and directs work flow and project assignments. Over sees production volume to ensure service standards are met. I facilitate training and evaluation of staff. I was also responsible for team's adherence to corporate attendance and employment policies. I work with the Pharmacy Manager to develop policies, procedures and the business work plan for the team. Recognizes and recommends operational improvement.

Management- I had the upmost respect for upper management

Co-worker- As a agent of management, there were some opportunities for improvement amongst various departments. For a overall veiw statistically we met company goals most of the time.

Hardest part of the job- was keeping folks focus on their jobs such as; adherence to company rules and policies, being in complaince.

Most enjoyable- Is meeting departmental goals/ facility goals as a whole (bonus). I especially loved employees engagement!

I had worked with this company for over 5 years. How, I don't know and in that 5 years, I had seen over 150 people leave on their own or get fired.  The Management is constantly making changes, never seeing them through, or realizing that THEY are the problem.  Too many cheifs.  The HR department does nothing and has no say so.  There is no confidentiality, the whole place is messy, and the mangers openly show favoritizum, but dont be fooled because that still does not mean you will not lose your job if push comes to shove. Everyone is out for self.  There are some people who have been there for years on end, but that is because they paint the picture that there are no other jobs out there and that they are the best place to work. The pay is well depending on what department you are in because they will pay you low if you allow it and yearly increases are usually between $0-.45. They do offer quarterly bonuse, but you hardly ever see them because the goals they set consist of you hitting a goal, your department hitting a goal, and all departments as one hitting a goal. Dosent happen often! They do do things to try and keep moral up, they do have nice Christmas parties and give Christmas bonuse, but this place is a mess and NO ones job is ever safe. They record and listen to all your calls as well as monitor how long you are on the phone, read your emails, and there are cameras all over the place so they can watch what you do all day from the office or the managers home.  You can only call in 4 times in one year and after that you will be required to bring a Dr's note every time after that and you can and will get fired for being late too much.  Do not waist your time with this place.  YOU will regret it!

I'm not going to say it's the best job I've had, but it's definitely not the worst. I had my own spacious cubicle that I could decorate, and my co-workers were awesome. My manager wanted the best for his department and I loved that he was passionate about seeing his employees grow under his supervision and guidance. I've never had a manager who cared so much for their employees, it was refreshing. The pay is above average. The work is very repetitive, and mindless...so it gets old real quick and there aren't any opportunities to learn new areas. They have crazy policies in place like one, for example: If you request off without sufficient PTO to cover your shift you will get a point for it. So, in other words, you pretty much get a write up if you take time off with out enough PTO to cover your missed hours. As if losing the hours isn't bad enough, you're also getting punished for it. It doesn't seem to be the place where you'd want to move up and start a career, but if you're just looking for a job that pays above minimum wage and isn't hard; this is it. I didn't hate my job, but I didn't love it. It just paid my bills.

productive and fun workplace with break rooms, lounge, computers in the break room, free coffee, tea and water. Free continuing education classes to renew your license. plenty of room for parking (parking lot and garage) Awesome pay raises, they have a union, great hours M-F 9 am - 5:30 pm, coaching and training always available, they work with you when you have an emergency...they created a quite work environment, there was always a Pharmacist available for questions. They had a very diverse team of Technicians and pharmacist. You had a chance to meet some really cool people, (lifelong friends) :-)    I learned a lot, awesome customer service, name and uses of medications, how to handle irate customers, how to stay calm on a call, no matter how angry the person on the other end became, ect, the best part of the job was that the managers did not stand over your shoulders (very important to me), the work hours and days, being left alone to do my job. There was nothing hard about the job, we always had all of the material needed to excel...

Overall rating is very poor. Compensation and benefits through their contracted agent of hire-APAC is very poor. Benefits are very poor. Additional Compensation is promised through making 'bonus'. When too many reps start meeting requirements to make bonus the criteria is changed and may or may not be announced immediately. No raises. Culture and values do not exist at APAC. There is no job security and in order to keep the MEDCO contract APAC will bulldoze over anybody or actually tell flat out lies to both Medco and employees.
Management above the team leader status is cut throat. Team leads are only fair to good.
APAC who represents MEDCO doesn't care about work life balance. They will hire you for a shift to get you in the door and then change your hours in training class
The hardest part of the job for customer service reps is during hours when management has gone home but we are not allowed to say that when a manager is requested. Although this is primarily APAC ( I hope) APAC is the caliber of workforce Medco contracts.

•         Perform analysis of claims data at the pharmacy, physician, and patient level in order to identify and target inappropriate claiming patterns as desk audits and supplemental to field audits.
•         Effectively investigate / analyze claims data to identify and target inappropriate claiming patterns.
•         Prepare detailed summary reports and discuss findings with the applicable plan sponsor.
•         Direct interaction with plan sponsors, members, physicians, and pharmacists.
•         Utilize pharmacy knowledge to evaluate the accuracy of claims billed.
•         Understand and evaluate unique drug and plan design criteria that can result in improper claims activity.
•         Evaluate claims reimbursed to the pharmacy against the pharmacy's prescription records (hardcopy prescriptions, signature logs, computer information, invoices, daily logs) and determines discrepancies, if any.
•         Discuss audit discrepancies with pharmacies and attorneys.
•         Coordinate with Legal to respond to subpoenas / arbitrations / attorney letters.
•         Participate in arbitration proceedings regarding specific audit findings and audit procedures.
•         Special projects as assigned.

Processed claims routed to Customer Service Research & Correspondence due to system edits. Verified addresses and conflicting information in Access database. My co-workers were a lot of fun, like a second family. Everyone was very good about sharing resources and ideas. The management was the best I ever worked with anywhere. These people were clearly picked because they knew what they were doing, not because it was their turn to get promoted or they knew someone. Best of all, they understood my job thoroughly. There was nothing I could bring to them that they werent expert at, even when I wasnt in their department!
The hardest part of the job was the fact that it could be unbelieveably boring. This was stressful too because you had to stay very focused for hours at a time while paying attention to every little detail. Making a mistake could have serious consequences because you are dealing with medications. The most enjoyable part of the job was my co-workers, the bonuses, benefits and overtime.

Working at Medco was one of my most educational life learning experiences. When I describe it as challenging , there was always a different nuance occurring on a daily bases . Whether it was policy or people or work material , which caused you to constantly keep on your toes. It was never boring . The management was great and my co-workers were like a family. I spent my early years there in the call center . But my last four or five years were spent working at home . So I was pretty much on my own , with an occasional virtual visit from supervisors to check equipment or to see if anything was needed and to do monitors. As a matter of fact I was so happy that I started working at home because it gave me the opportunity to spend more time with my family especially my husband before he passed God rest his soul , and to be with my children and also to save on gas and wear and tear on the car . But of course I did miss my co-workers .
