Medical Solutions

I joined Medical Solutions with genuine excitement and high expectations. I first learned about the company in 2022 through a close friend who was thriving there, and the culture, growth opportunities, and flexibility described to me made it a place I aspired to work long-term. At the time, I lacked the required experience, but I intentionally gained relevant experience elsewhere and later applied again when an opportunity opened. When I was hired, I was extremely proud and optimistic about building a career with the company.

During the interview and onboarding process, the role was presented as one with a strong, supportive culture, a desirable office location, and a clear path to hybrid or remote work after demonstrating performance—specifically after building a desk to a stated benchmark. After starting, several of these expectations changed. Performance benchmarks were significantly higher than originally communicated, and plans for hybrid or remote work became unclear and inconsistent.

Most concerning was the unexpected office relocation, which was not disclosed during interviews or onboarding. This change substantially increased commute times for many employees and had a real impact on work-life balance. For a role that involved long hours and could be performed effectively outside the office, the lack of flexibility felt unnecessary and discouraging.

Following the move and a change in upper management, the culture shifted dramatically. What had once felt collaborative and people-focused became highly micromanaged and metrics-driven, with little regard for employee well-being. Many employees expressed feeling dehumanized, undervalued, and disconnected from the culture that was originally promoted. While I understand the demands of sales environments, this was not the role or culture I accepted.

Despite these challenges, I continued to work hard and believed in my ability to succeed. However, the constant pressure, lack of flexibility, and fear of discipline for taking time off—even while working extended hours—took a significant mental and physical toll. I strongly believe my performance would have been stronger had the original structure, culture, and flexibility remained in place.

I am no longer working there and my mental health has been significantly better. I feel so much relief being out of that toxic environment. 

Overall: Medical Solutions appeared to be an excellent place to work prior to the changes in leadership and office location in summer 2025. Unfortunately, those changes significantly altered the culture, expectations, and employee experience. While others may thrive in the current environment, it was no longer a place where I felt supported, respected, or able to succeed.

I  completed two assignments with this company.  Both times I was less than satisfied.  

The first assignment I asked how much my travel reimbursement would be.  I was instructed that I would not be receiving a travel reimbursement.  I asked for a breakdown of my housing so that I could see how much they were paying for the apartment and furnishings.  I became acquainted with another nurse who works for MS and she told me she always received a travel reimbursement.  I was then told by my recruiter that there is a bucket of money.  Each time I withdraw from that bucket, like travel pay, that bucket becomes smaller and as a result my paychecks would be affected and pay would be less.

On my second assignment, I received an equitable travel pay without question, but was told that my travel pay would be allocated in two payments.  On my second check and the last check.  Ridiculous.  This is not a bonus.  It is the cost of my traveling over 2500 miles to a job assignment.  

When setting up for my third assignment I was asked to perform training online through HealthStream.  The last orientation I performed on HealthStream had 29 modules and took over 14 hours to complete.  When told about Health Stream no pay for training was discussed.  When I asked how much I would be paid I was told $200.  I asked about how many modules and did not receive an answer.  When I told them that $200 would cover about 4 hours of work.  No answer.  I told them I would not do hospital orientation on-line at home for $200.  If I was to do orientation training at home, I would be paid a professional rate and told them that this was non-negotiable.  As a result, I did not take the third assignment.

Finally, never take the health insurance.  When I needed to use my health insurance I went to an Urgent Care.  The Urgent Care told me that my copay was $100, but the cash visit is only $80.  

It is amazing to me what nurses are now willing to accept for a job assignment.  We have got to say NO.  I am not doing that.  Also, is it possible that I had a terrible recruiter or is Medical Solutions really that cheap?  Who decides how much nurses are paid?  Is it the recruiter or the company?  I cannot wait for the day when nurses are paid a professional wage and not have to contend with these third party hacks.

Stay strong nurses!  Know your worth.

It's the same story here as many, many other places. When I started, I didn't believe how positive, and uplifting the culture was, and it did really take a long time for that doubt to be justified. The job is easy, managers were supportive, you could get your unlimited PTO with ease, and there was a real commitment to mental health and a work life/balance during the pandemic. 

In my opinion, the company got greedy because the pandemic really had business booming, but it truly seems the good times were going to keep rolling, and they hired on A LOT of people in the past year or so. Fast forward to today and bonuses are cut, PTO policy constrained, audits and micromanaging everywhere, and now unfortunately a surprise layoff for many of my teammates and friends from the past couple years. 

They are working on a number of large technology upgrades - that are mostly needed - but the planning and execution is truly terrible and it makes the job so much more difficult. However, to complain about it, you're labeled negative, and I've seen what happened to those individuals so you just have to force a smile and try not to go insane.

I think a lot of the project managers are very unexperienced or operating outside their expertise, and it's way too much to try to change at one time, but it doesn't seem that lessons are learned here without complete and utter failure. You will re-do work on a weekly basis, and there's no point in bringing up potential pitfalls, because no one listens. 

I really cannot recommend starting here now. Morale is horrible, there's no trust in management, and we're all fearful of another round of surprise layoffs. Pay is below market average, the benefits are ok, but the soul is gone.


Certified with NY State medical board’s mandatory immunizations for 2018.  PSA’s responsibilities include reporting to nurse or charge nurse each morning. Myself and the charge nurse discuss the patient’s condition prior to patient introduction. PSA’s are to provide for each client the prevention of patient harming themselves. Assisting the patient care technicians or nurses with toileting, diapering, mobility, walking of the client with the use of gait belt, wheel chair and or stretcher. Feeding of the client if they have any diet or regular. Turning patient both left and right. Bathing for purposes of soiled pad, diaper etc. for cleanliness of patient including showering if needed to include oral hygiene. Calorie food counts for patients coming off feed tubes to the nurse directly for charting. Observing and progress noting daily is very important role to the nurse on duty the patient’s condition if progressing or digressing.  Abiding all HIPPA laws for all patients, and hospital facilities. Assuring all equipment is intact. Ambulatory assistance always and asking for the appropriate assistance to lift a patient or to move a patient with little mobility.  Assisting with agitated or pike patients in the emergency department with a happy compassionate calm demeanor always with a great attitude. Ensuring loving safe and proper care with group home and all.

A typical workday depended on the shift you were assigned and the type of nursing care performed. I worked primarily in ED, so the workflow was unpredictable, and patient loads were often high. I gained a lot of valuable experience on top of my career previous to traveling with Medical Solutions. The management at Medical Solutions was focused on ensuring that the nurses were making the clients happy. Day-to-day management came from the client facility and its nurses, charge nurses and supervisors. The nursing climate or culture varied with the client facility. Some facilities were good and appreciated having travelers While others saw travelers as someone who was making more money and taking jobs from local nurses. Of course that’s not the case because travelers are there at high expense because local talent isn’t available. Overall, I stayed with Medical Solutions because they were a large company and had an abundance of assignments. I also had a cordial relationship with my recruiter. Pain is always on time and reflected what I put on my timesheet. Again, the big downside working for Medical Solutions was the limited support for the nurse and strong support to the client.

Login to computer go through emails and get ready for your meetings. Then work with team members and other teams/departments to complete tasks from meeting takeaways.

What you believe you learned?
I was giving the opportunity to learn everything about my job as I was new to the role. Is this the case now. Probably not but I really enjoyed it and felt I was encouraged to learn new things.

What was management like?
All of my direct managers we great and wanted me to be better and always let me know if I was doing a good job. They were also always available for questions and to chat about projects.

How was workplace culture?
It was great when I started but once the company started to not be doing well financially and new executives took over you felt like there was no direction or that you could be let go at any moment.

The hardest part of the job?
Not being able to do the work you were givin and having to be the middle man to get the job done.

The most enjoyable part of the job?
The learning, the people, the projects and seeing them through to completion. 

A typical day at work was always a great day! I was always leaning something new wether it was a cultural thing of that particular hospital or it was stepping out of my comfort zone. I was always engaged and supported and felt confident and included. Management was okay. They would definitely work with you if you needed to switch work days due to medical reasons. And always worked with me if they needed to me to pick up a shift. Very easy going! The hardest part of my job there was the rift between full time and travelers. But I feel like  that is at every hospital.  The most enjoyable part of my job was that even when learning something new I had the support 6o feel confident in whatever it was that I was doing to perform my job duties!

My experience working with Medical Solutions has been very positive, and a big part of that is thanks to my recruiter, Sydney Mendenhall. From the start, Sydney was incredibly helpful, responsive, and supportive throughout the entire process.

She really took the time to understand my goals and encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone by taking a contract in Albany, NY—which turned out to be a great decision. Her guidance and reassurance made the transition much easier, and I always felt like she had my best interests in mind.

Sydney was quick to respond whenever I had questions or concerns, and she consistently followed up to make sure everything was going smoothly. Having a recruiter who is both proactive and genuinely supportive made a huge difference in my travel experience.

One minor downside was that I felt a bit of pressure initially to take the Albany contract, but in hindsight it worked out well and helped me grow professionally.

Overall, I would definitely recommend working with Medical Solutions, especially with Sydney as your recruiter.

The hardest part of my job is getting up early in the morning to go to work, lol.  Working as a traveling Surgical tech has its challenges.  I can be assigned to work with difficult staff and Dr's, hard cases that their staff can't scrub, going from task to task without a break, and many more challenges too long to list.  Some days the best part of the day is when I clock out!   But on these difficult days,  I find my recruiter has a knack for checking on me, and allowing me to vent my frustrations. She has always had my back, and always gets back to me regarding questions, or requests.  And for payroll issues, the staff has helped me with questions in a timely manner.  I have had a great experience with Medical Solutions and my wonderful caring, and experienced recruiter.  I would certainly work with MS again!

My experience with Medical Solutions has been deeply disappointing. What’s most frustrating is the lack of transparency and consistency in how things are handled — from pay discrepancies to shift bonuses that are suddenly revoked without explanation. Communication across the board is disorganized, and when issues are brought up, they’re often deflected or downplayed rather than resolved.

I’ve worked with other travel nurse agencies before, and I’ve never felt as unsupported or micromanaged as I did here. Promises made during onboarding were not upheld, and internal team dynamics felt more like a power struggle than a collaborative environment. Leadership appears more focused on optics and metrics than actually supporting the clinicians or recruiters doing the day-to-day work.

If you value professionalism, clear communication, and a supportive work culture, I would suggest exploring other agencies before committing to Medical Solutions.
