Hallmark Health/ Melrose Wakefield is a beautiful inner city hospital that provides excellent care to all of the patients. Hallmark Health 
has all of the newest equipment to offer its client who come there for care. All documentation  is done on computer . This is a very advanced community set hospital beloved by all of their clients and employees alike. Hallmark Health has been rated as one of the best places to work in Massachusetts for years.
I generally work 1900pm -0730am 3 nights per week I care for up to 
6 Med /Surg, Orthopedic and both General Surgical Patients during my 12 hour shift.. The first 4 hours of the shift is extremely busy but as night settles in it is a wonderful environment for learning and being able to care for numerous types of patients. We also care for end of life Hospice in house. This is one of my favorite assignments
and I hope to become certified in Hospice care in the future.I am 
IV proficient and I enjoy on line Documentation, We use pyxis and COWS for safe medication distribution. We have self governace on 
all of the units and do most of our own scheduling.We have many opportunities for education and a very generous tuition reimbursement program for full time employees. Management is present 24 hours per day and are easily reachable for in house emergencies.We have 24 hr Hospitalists for most of our patients.
Coworkers are team members and are available to help one another 
in times of crisis most of the time.Supervisors on off shifts are great.
The hardest part is beginning of shift/end of shift admissions.
We have to pick up our admissions in the ED, This is not always a good thing because it interfers with seeing our other patients who are already on the unit and many times the patients are not ready to come up to the floors yet and we must spend longer than usual time waiting for patients to be ready and that is time away from our already established patients who need meds and tx . This also put excessive stress on other nurses on unit to look after your patients along with their own while you are off the unit.
The most enjoyable part of my job is caring for my patients who I take into my heart and soul . I enjoy teaching my patients and their families,I help them to embrace a healthier lifestyle so they can be  home enjoying their lives and families. I enjoy nursing research and 
evidenced based practice nursing which has made such profound 
changes in the safe environment at my place of employment. I am blessed to have worked in such an advanced hospital setting.

Melrose could be a good place but it is not.   The worst  aspect is lack of staffing.   Nurses frequently overwhelmed and floated too much bc the hospital provides no incentive for ppl to come and does not actively recruit staff, also too cheap to hire agency or travelers even during  the COVID crisis.  Nurses have their vacation taken from them while sitting at home on call when census drops.  You either have to somehow pay your bills without working or take from your earned vacation days so you can get your regular pay check.  If you need to have a full check and use your PTO days to get paid when called off then you can’t request a vacation until you build your earned vacation back up.  I am sure upper management does not get their vacation stolen from them, that’s reserved for the “heroes” apparently. The lack of ancillary help is insane.  1,2,3 CNA’s/PCA’s for the whole hospital is now the regular.  Sometimes zero as frequently they are pulled off the floor to go be a sitter.  Hospital admin has put no effort forward to improve the situation. They saw that the doors didn’t close when staff was further burdened without PCA’s so since it saves them money they aren’t concerned.   It is not the unit managers; definitely nursing leadership who does not advocate for nursing or good patient care.  The immediate bottom line drives every decision, and that is so the Hallmark and Wellforce executives can make money hand over fist.  Take a look at their compensation sometime.  Infuriating when we don’t get a tech bc it “costs too much.”   They have 1 lab person overnight who is expected to cover ER and the entire hospital.   It is a frantic, near impossible pace that no one should be subjected to.   Until COVID their was one RT for the whole hospital.  They could be stuck in CT scan or with a baby in L&D, or dealing with a code in ER and meanwhile the whole hospital has no therapist.  Hopefully they keep the two but I doubt it.   Advice: Find yourself a better environment to work.  There are certainly better options.

The value for HHS affiliating with Partners is the opportunity to become a fully integrated member of a coordinated system of care with primary, secondary and some tertiary care in the community and the availability of critically acute or research-based care at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), one of the highest ranked hospitals in the country. By keeping patients within a coordinated system, HHS can track the quality of their care more effectively and focus on the cost of that care by eliminating repetitive procedures, such as tests and imaging that can happen when a patient sees a disconnected number of providers. Working within a coordinated system will also diminish fragmentation of care, which is a known cause for increased costs. And the proximity of Hallmark Health System and MGH provides the opportunity to use existing facilities more efficiently and effectively to coordinate available patient services for the region.

Highly rewarding work with patients in a Cancer care setting.
Start up, monitoring temperatures and QC, running the XN2000 analyzer and reading differentials on flagged specimens. 
I also draw blood and do specimens processing. 
Stat BUN, Cre, Lytes and Blood sugars are done on an Abbott iSTAT.
Software on this chemistry device is managed over the internet by myself and 2 other senior techs.
Internal and external QC is performed.
I have also had the opportunity to be a CAP inspector and travel out of state to perform inspections on other laboratories.

Busy Medical Surgical floor with a never ending revolving door of RN turnover. The company is so focused on hiring new staff and relying on travel nurses that it treats it dedicated nurses like they are at the bottom of the totem pole. Nurses that lack experience, lack care, lack knowledge along with completely new- new grads are being hired at higher hourly rates than the nurses who have shown dedication with this company for years on end. If your completely new to the company and without experience, chances are you will get a significantly higher hourly pay than nurses that served this place during the pandemic. Such a transiently staffed place.

In a typical workday, I can interact via phone/email with insurance payors working on a contract negotiation. I may be contacted internally from employees working in payment collection related to improper payments received from an insurance payor. I'll then work to resolve the issue. I may be contacted by a physician office with questions regarding a new insurance plan and related contracting queries. Simultaneously, I may be working on an agenda and meeting package for a senior hospital leadership meeting. I may be outreaching internally to clinical areas related to our achievement of pay for performance quality metrics in our contracts.

I joined a newly formed Marketing/Communications Department, which at the time was fully-staffed with a VP, Director and four other people including myself. This new team was a cohesive group that accomplished an incredible amount of work in the past seven years including a website redesign and subsequent smaller redesigns. Extended the distribution of main publication from 80,000 households to 120,000 and converted other publications from print to electronic. Launched the system's social media efforts and won national and local award for social-media specific campaign.

my most enjoyable day at my job was looking forward to see my patients. I enjoyed drawing blood daily and interacting with my patients. the only dislike I had was the supervisors did not interact with their employees and alot of time I felt alone or I was not being recognized for my hard work. The patient recognized my good performance more than the supervisor did. It felt really good to have patients only want me to draw their blood and not anyone else. I loved all my co-workers and I know for a fact they felt the same way about me because we stay in touch outside of work.

Many talented, caring, nursing and ancillary staff.  Most ancillary staff has been laid off, leaving very little time for nurses to interact with patients.  Nurses are overwhelmed, overworked, and under appreciated like never before. Hallmark is very fortunate to have such dedicated nurses, but seems to take the attitude that everyone is replaceable, conform or leave. It's very sad to see the changes that has taken place in this facility over the past year.  Nurses do not seem to have a voice, or a leader to represent them. Management shows favoritism to staff, examples are, days off, advancement, preferred assignments, etc.

Management is selfish they do not care about the employee.  Very poor moral due to constant lay offs and cuts in work hours.  Hallmark health is going down the tube quickly.  Human resources is a cut throat department., they do not help make situations better when they are  needed to do so.  The organization is no longer a top hospital to work for at this point it doesn't even make the list of hospitals to work for.  Sad change for what use to be 10 yrs ago a wonderful place to work.  Think twice before making a bad dicission and applying to hallmark health. There are more caring people to work for and better places to work.
