The job is good for experience for those who want to work with the severely mentally ill, but staying with the company long will burn you out. Intakes are completely walk in even when the crisis unit tells clients they have an appointment for outpatient follow up. While biopsychosocial assessments are expected to take an hour & a half, there is not a reasonable cut off for individuals walking into complete paperwork prior to the biopsychosocial. If one of the providers doesn't agree with your provisional diagnosis or they are told something different by the client that specific provider will give you a lecture that continues even after they made their point. 


There was so much gossip in the office that a common saying was "the walls have ears." Turn over is high within the company, especially for the intake clinician role. 


They use paper for anything payroll/HR related and the original document is to be sent to HR via interoffice mail. If they close for a hurricane or similar weather event, you are expected to use your PTO to cover the hours lost and if you don't have the time, you don't get paid.


Leadership didn't always keep their promises or bent truths in interviews.

MHRC is a great company to work for.  There is a lot of opportunity for advancement but it seems most don’t jump on opportunities to apply to seek advancement. The PTO accrual is high and grows as you work with the company.  Upper management encourages staff to reach out for support and those that do, recognize the benefit of it. Those who keep to themselves or do not ask questions seem to be less satisfied than my coworkers who learned to ask, ask, ask.  I always feel encouraged to ask questions. It’s difficult at times as there is a lot of information but the work is extremely rewarding. Things have improved a lot and continue to as people seem to be open to ideas and actually listen to make things better. If you’re not afraid to admit when you don’t know something so they can teach you, you will learn a lot and enjoy the work. It is never boring and you know you’re making a difference. Be the change you want to see. That’s what I choose to do and I feel fulfilled. 

I supervised the Mental Health Techs. First we had shift change. New information passed down. Took care of any fires which had started such as certain clients trying to hurt themselves, or others or becoming veryk aggressive. Counseled with these persons and modified stimuli, and reinforcers on the crisis unit to reduce behavior and to increase adaptive behavior. I had the tech's stay outside the Nurses station so that they could see trouble starting and head it off. Management made themselves available throughout the shift. Co-workers were helpful and on point most of the time. The hardest part of the job was the physical control of clients. The most enjoyable was to be able to sit down with the clients and assist them make future plans.

Unfortunately, my experience here has become increasingly difficult. The environment is toxic across the board, not just within one department. Upper management often contributes to drama rather than resolving it, and HR does absolutely nothing to help you feel heard or supported. Concerns are dismissed, and genuine efforts to seek help go unanswered.

Proper training is not provided, yet employees are micromanaged and held to unrealistic expectations. This creates a frustrating and disempowering dynamic.

When a team of individuals who were originally mentally sound begins to question their own sanity, experience panic attacks, and struggle with anxiety, it’s a clear sign that the work environment has become psychologically unsafe.

There are talented, dedicated people working here who deserve better leadership, meaningful support, and a workplace culture that prioritizes well-being and respect.

I've worked here a good bit of time compared to others. It's getting worse and worse. Management doesn't care about employees. Upper management is 100% out of touch with the work the "regular people" do and it shows. The staff turnover is insane because no one really wants to work in a place we get treated like we do. We get more work dumped on us all the time and have to do it with a small staff because no one wants to be here. It wasn't always this bad but now it's miserable. We're stressed and unhappy all the time.

We're forced to do things that don't make sense and get more stressful for patients and staff. No one cares. Seriously. I've seen them turn down solutions to problems just cause they don't get it or don't care. The pay isn't great. Not worth it. I see hard workers and good people get worn down no matter how hard they try. It's depressing.

This company is exactly what you would expect for a not for profit community mental health center. The pay is not the best but the benefits are great (MHRC see's ANYONE regardless of their ability to pay) , the employer pays on average $600/month for your benefits leaving a very small portion for the employee's to pick up monthly, there is no wait in receiving benefits, the people who work here don't do it for the money they do it for the satisfaction is helping others in our community. 

If you are looking for an entry level Psychology or Sociology position at a place to grow with that really cares about their clients/patients this is the place for you! High performers are promoted, those who left negative reviews obviously were the bottom of the barrel.

sometimes it can trying but most jobs are am no stranger to hard work.it is one of the most heart felt jobs i had ever had.i interact well well with the kids that am dealing with.i have learn to telerate the noise that kids can make .management is wounderful anything you need they are there.and all my coworkers are friendly we are just like family.the hardest part of the jod is nonviolet crisis intervention.when someone becomes violent.the. enjoyable part is when the patient tell you how much you that you have help them with what they are going through and parent are greatful for the help you have gave there child.it is a wounderful thing and that is why i have sayed so long.

They are very careless toward their clientele and toxic workplace climate. If you are not one of the manager's favorites, you will frequently be singled out for tiny errors that they have not adequately instructed you on, exposed to micromanagement, and the manager will leave a paper trail about you.  It is a dishonest workplace because they keep dismissing clients on their census and tell employees not to call those clients. Working in the office is like being around a group of bullies who thrive on other people's errors and their client's mental health problems (it's funny when a client has a breakdown). It's a pretty depressing workplace because they are constantly looking for ways to criticize others. 

MHRC is a good company. I enjoyed being a case manager there and had a supportive supervisor. However, I did not feel being in a management role was the best position for me in regards to child welfare. The stress level and work life balance was not there and I was constantly worried about potential of risk in the homes the children were residing in with some of our cases. As a case worker, its easier to know when one goes in a home and evaluate safety vs reading on case notes another person's view of risk. 

In general, case management or investigatoins is more my line of work. The company is a good company. It was just time for me to move on:)

I liked working here because of the patients you get to interact with. The staff doesn't care about the patients and tends to not take the patients seriously just because they are in a mental health facility. I would like to see more compassionate staff and better compensation. Starting at 9.00 per hour for a Mental Health Technician is not enough for the type of work that is done. The company needs to not look at patients as a way to get money. They need to focus on the care and betterment of the patients.
