The Mercy rehab hospital administration are not Mercy employees, but the bedside staff are. Administration does not care about the bedside employees or patient care. We are constantly begging for help and the administration over looks it. There are many issues with upper management and unfortunately they’re not going to fix it or care to fix it. The nursing staff is constantly understaffed even though we all beg for them to hire more help or reduce the load. Admin constantly says “it’s in the budget” but never offers a solution. They are not competitive in the pay and because the management is not a Mercy company they won’t advocate for their employees pay or benefits. There are no opportunities for growth in the company and no incentive or reward for doing well. The communication between management and employees is very poor. It’s an extremely stressful place to work and there is no help when you’re over worked. The level of care for the patients is very fake, they only care about the image so they will do whatever they can to please them so they don’t write a bad review.  They do not care about employee comments or complaints at all. An actual response I’ve received from upper management is “what do you want me to do” and they were not being genuine. 

Working at our rehab facility has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. From day one, I’ve felt supported—not only by leadership, but also by an incredible team of coworkers who genuinely care about one another and the individuals we serve. The culture here is rooted in kindness, compassion, and a shared purpose to help individuals and families through their healing journeys.

A typical day for me involves marketing the facility and building strong, meaningful relationships with healthcare professionals throughout our community. It’s a role that allows me to connect, educate, and advocate for the high-quality care we offer. Every interaction is a chance to spread the message of hope and recovery.

What I enjoy most is seeing the success stories unfold. Watching individuals complete their rehab journey and return to their lives stronger—knowing our team played a part in that transformation—is incredibly fulfilling. It’s more than just a job; it’s a mission we all believe in, and I’m proud to be part of it.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I worked in the kitchen as a dietary aide. The dietary staff is wonderful. The hours are flexible and the work environment is great. Alot of encouragement from the kitchen manager. She gives you ample room for moving up and encouragement. Everyone is treated as equals. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
If we had alot of new admissions scheduled at serving time and didn't have menus on them yet, that would cause some stress. But it was a pretty stressful free experience for me.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Everyone is treated as equals and ample encouragement for promotions. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy but enjoyable. It was nice caring for people who are healing from sometimes very serious life altering accidents/sicknesses. When they would come to us letting us know they appreciated everything we do, it felt so good to know we were doing a good job.

Out of the different jobs I have worked at throughout my life, I would say that working at Mercy Rehab Hospital has been the most rewarding position I've had yet. 

However, it had its down sides. There were many different times where they would call me either an hour before my shift, or as soon as I arrived at the hospital, to inform me that I was "canceled for the day" (Meaning; I am no longer required for my scheduled shift.) Yet they would sometimes call me not 20 minutes later to then say "Actually, we do need you.", if you miss that phone call, you get written up for a "No call, No show". 

I had run into many different problems with this being the case that I unfortunately could no longer continue my position as a PCA. Maybe I was simply unlucky, but as I said, working for Mercy is extremely beneficial, rewarding, and overall, a wonderful learning experience.

I really enjoyed my experience at mercy rehab as a physical therapist and all of the amazing coworkers I got to work alongside. The hospital is full of caring, compassionate employees that are truly there for the patients. My schedule was very flexible and the PTO was great. Salary is a little bit less than similar facilities in the area, however, my caseload was always much more manageable than those facilities. Like many healthcare facilities, insufficient staffing created an extra burden some days, but management is always actively trying fix those issues. Overall, I would recommend anyone join this fantastic crew. 

I have been employed with Mercy Rehab Ft. Smith for about 2 years as a Registered Nurse. My favorite thing about our facility is the family atmosphere that has been created - you are not just a number here; you are a part of a great mission. There is opportunity at our facility for growth and it is encouraged. Management is not above helping anyone below them - they have made beds, cleaned rooms, or passed meal trays when it gets busy on the floor. I enjoy working with our rehab patients - it is heartwarming and rewarding to be a part of their last step toward getting home! It is comforting to work for a facility you would recommend to anyone. 

The co-workers are the absolute best. Management and administration could use a complete turn over. They use the same methods over and over to solve the same problems and get frustrated when they get the same results. Went through 3 CEO's in 3 years, 2 nursing directors, and major staffing walkouts. This was a difficult environment to work in. Worked more weekends than promised and had to work tons of overtime to compensate poor staffing ratios.

Mercy Rehab is a great place to work because it allows you to learn through a medical setting.

The fun part about this job is the people you work with and your patients they know how to make your day better.

The worst part about this job is the amount of patients you can receive and how hard they are to manage.

I have learned to be patient and that it is good to respect your elders and the ones you work with. To be honest and open is important to help to get to know others and how to do your job with success.

I loved everything about my job. Helping people is a benefit in it's own. But, every job has a con. The nurses weren't very helpful and expected their nursing assistants to do everything for them. I was considered an "unlicensed nursing assistant" and I was told that they would train me and get me to be a "certified nursing assistant" and that never happened. I worked nights, so it interfered with my home life quite a bit. I took a medical terminology class, but was unable to take my final due to me having to work even though I had asked off.

Mercy Rehab is a great place to work as a therapist, especially as a new grad. There are several willing therapists that help you learn and grow, and it is a very team oriented environment. I have enjoyed working here for 2.5 years and hope to be here for years to come. It's a state of the art facility as well. The PTO is really good here, and management is very understanding when things happen at home and you need to take time off. It really is a family feel in the therapy gym, and everyone gets along extremely well.
