Great job for anyone who considers them self a people person. A lot of interacting with older folks, some of whom may have more traditional beliefs than teenagers. All the staff was friendly and helpful, teamwork was definitely emphasized. Had lunch and/or dinner rushes one or twice in a shift - could get very stressful as you run out of materials and have to keep people waiting.
I worked in the cafe, the most casual of the dining options available, and therefore only had to wear khakis and a uniform shirt that they provided. Other venues had to dress nicer - belt, shirt tucked in, hair up, etc. - and some had to wear blazers.

The workers were mostly young adults. Flexible and easy scheduling. You'll spend as much of your shift as possible on your feet (no chairs and no sitting down during your shift). It is important to remember that this is a retirement community and you will meet people that pass away.

Start with am 8:00 am stand up meeting with the staff, environmental rounds, committee meetings, paying bills, balancing the budget answering call and visiting residents. Managing employees throughout the day with different resident concerns. The workplace culture is something to behold, everyone is in a great mood you are trained to put a smile on your face. We have hospitality promises that are centered around greeting and addressing are resident's needs. The hardest part of my job is getting new employees to understand the culture at Mercy Ridge. That culture is we are in their home and must act accordingly.
The most enjoyable part of my job is satisfying the residents and seeing a smile on there faces.   

Mercy Ridge is a very special place. It is a place that is more than just a job.  The relationships that are built with the residents and the friendships that are formed with the employees are beyond what you would find in just any job. There is a feeling of belonging and acceptance. People walking in the building to take a tour (whether to decide to live here or to work here) can feel it the moment they are welcomed into our world. We greet you with a smile, we embrace our individuality and accept one another with open arms. We treat you with respect and wow you with our friendly, clean environment. We are family and people stay. Our turnover is low and we have a perfect environment for students. The experiences you will have while working here are fantastic and we really care about you.

A typical day at work involves opening and closing side work, and a section of 5 tables max and 3 minimum. I learned how to enter data in a P.O.S.  system. The management was decent, they were very understanding, but they weren't always "visible", there were many times where management had disappeared when a resident or employee had an issue. The workplace culture has a somewhat diverse staff, but not much diversity in the residents. The hardest part of the job is managing all of your tables on a busy night, especially when you have a table that seats up to 8 in your section, as well as 3 to 4 other tables of up to 2 or 4 to check on and serve. The most enjoyable part of the job is building a bond with your coworkers and the residents.

Whether you are a frontline staff member, manager, supervisor, or director, HR goes out of its way to be fair and represent Mercy Ridge and the staff's best interests in a balanced way. The HR staff maintains an open-door policy and listens without judgment to offer the best counseling possible. HR is a great team and positively represents Mercy Ridge. A typical day involves regular engagement with residents and families either in meetings or participating in activities. Residents and staff care for and look out for each other. The most enjoyable part of every day is the amount of appreciation one receives for doing the little things.

The daily workload is far from overwhelming; I learned how to serve several dishes on platters, alcoholic beverages, as well as how to set up a cart for catering. The management has friendly people who are willing to work with you if you communicate in a timely fashion. It's hard to say if this reflects on the company or just my location, but there was a notable issue with maintaining staff members. Due to low numbers it wasn't uncommon to be a tad overloaded, but even in those circumstances it wasn't nearly as bad as working at an actual restaurant.

A typical day here usually consisted of stocking, making sure the residents were enjoying their meals, cleaning, etc. It all really depended on what job you were given that day--it could be clearing tables, serving food on line, managing desserts, working the register, handling the salad bar, floating, all kinds of positions. All of my coworkers were friendly and capable, and my boss was very accommodating with scheduling given that many of us were high school students.

Get in and set up the pool, studios, and get the daily message out. Go up and greet the residents , teach a few classes, have a few training sessions, help out members with an issue they might need help with
I love splitting time in assisted living memory care , independent living and the pool.
The staff is so supportive of what I do with the residents. 
Also if I ever need anything management is right there to help, no questions asked.


I've been here at Mercy Ridge as an Environmental Service Supervisor for almost 30 days, it has been productive and rewarding.  I've worked closely with leadership and the EVS team.  Working daily building trust, understanding each of their thoughts and their way of doing things.  Continuing to follow policies/procedures, while maintaining a clean and safe environment for each other, residents and visitors.  I look forward to continuing to grow in this position.
