I worked there for almost two years and got fired over a he said she said situation. Not only that but the scheduler used her job very unprofessionally and to her advantage…. The staff was very unprofessional especially HR I got fired over the phone!!! Most of the time I felt like I was working with a bunch of teenagers who gossiped and competed and treated others very poorly…. I really loved my job besides all of that I loved working with the residents and learned something new every day some of the nurses treated the aids very well and helped them when we were very busy.. I knew exactly what was expected of me and how to do my job and if I didn’t know something I asked and was taught. The hardest part of my job other than loosing some residents was how overwhelmingly busy it got and having less staff because the scheduler took advantage of her job. The best part of my job was being able to learn new things and take care of the most amazing residents!! 

Messiah Lifeways is by far the best place I have worked. They have very high standards and morals - with high quality resident care and staff satisfaction at the top of their list of goals. In the 13 years I was employed at Messiah, I felt valued and always encouraged to grow in my role there. I grew within the community from an Activities Associate, to Activities Director, to eventually a Manager of a Dementia Neighborhood with 64 staff. I learned more at Messiah than any where else, or in any other way in my journey so far. I will always be proud to have been a part of their team.

Management was absolutely horrible. They showed clear favoritism to employees , and would hang out with those employees outside of work. There was no boundary of authority, and management started 99% of the drama. Residents were treated kindly, however aides never were quick to keep their word to the residents. Need something? *someone* will be back in 1-3 hours. Management was aggressive to staff, including pointing and yelling in employees faces. Management also did  nothing about an employee who made other employees uncomfortable. Again- the employee was a friend, so there was favoritism shown . 

My opinion on Messiah lifeways is this certain employees and staff favor certain other employees but if you're a lowly dishwasher like myself you don't get as much appreciation or understanding and the workload gets heaped on you people back there are not willing to help you out as much as what everybody thinks they are and as for paid time off and medical conditions okay I admit I had to take a lot of medical time off over the last year they hold this against you even if it's a doctor or a hospital related visit it's like you are committing some great sin

A typical day at work is usually really busy. Constantly on the go. I have learned a lot of different things about dealing with the elderly. It is a totally different environment.
Management is a different story. You have an issue, and they really don't want to hear it. Do as they say.
Co-workers are really nice and understanding people. At least some of them are. If you aren't in management, you are looked down upon.
Hardest part of the job is working on the weekends. It is only one weekend a month, but I like my weekends off.
The most enjoyable part of the job is the people.

Messiah has been the best company I have ever worked for. They truly do want to show their appreciation for the staff and the residents frequently. They have several incentives multiple times a year to show staff how much they care. Sadly covid has also affected the staffing which is a country wide problem and at times short staffing can be felt by the direct care staff. Measiah legally has always overstaffed which makes call offs more easy to handle. 

THIS IS A PLACE THAT CLAIMS TO BE A CHRISTIAN MINISTRY YET WORKS IT'S EMPLOYEES TO THE BONE. THEY ARE UNCARING ABOUT THEIR EMPLOYEES AND ARE SADLY SUPPOSED TO BE NON-PROFIT BUT ARE ALL ABOUT MAKING MONEY AND FILLING BEDS FOR ADMINISTRATIVE BONUSES. BENEFITS ARE ALSO HORRIBLE. PAID TIME OFF, SICK TIME AND HOLIDAY TIME ARE ALL THE SAME BANK. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CLOCK IN EVEN ONE MINUTE LATE OR YOU RECEIVE AN OCCURRANCE. OCCURRANCES ARE JUST UNBELIEVABLELY MISUSED. THIS IS A PLACE WHERE EVERYONE IS AFRAID TO LOSE THEIR JOBS ON A DAILY BASIS. THERE ARE ALSO NO RAISES ANYMORE. THE BONUS PROGRAM IS BOGUS.

This is a really good place to work. I was able to obtain my CNA through here. Although it can be chaotics/ stressful when there are call offs, it's a good place overall. My managers are friendly. My biggest complaint has been the pay. Compared to what other places are paying CNAs, the pay could be better. Because they are short staffed, the scheduler is constantly contacting you to work a shift on your day off. That can be annoying, but they're just doing their job. 

I interned at Messiah for 3 months as a Social Worker and directly following my internship and graduation I was hired there as a Neighborhood Enrichment Specialist. I have since worked in three other long term care facilities and Messiah is by far the nicest one. It is very clean and bright, the staff is very friendly, and the residents are very well cared for. They offer very competitive wages and a very inviting workplace. The only reason why I am not currently employed there is because I moved and now live too far away.

Working in senior living at Messiah Village provides a sense of purpose and job satisfaction.  The work culture fosters an open communication with everyone striving for common goals.  It feels good to know we are a respected   and sought after community and that we can provide meaningful services to the Harrisburg area.
