I wish I had started residency elsewhere. I believe I would still have the same fire I once had before I started working at Methodist. 
Typical work day:
You are expected to arrive prior to shift start to look up your patient load for the day.  They’re okay with this so long as you’re not clocked in or taking up space.  You’ll maybe get a lunch, you’ll likely be interrupted during said lunch and hopefully at the end of your shift the following nurse remembers they’re on shift and arrives at least at their scheduled time for report (the supervisors WILL NOT come and help cover down, they will just put the burden on another nurse or request that you stay until hopefully a nurse can be floated to that area).
What I learned:
Young nurses eat their young and old nurses try to help the new nurses because they at least understand that it's important to teach new nurses how to be effective in the department they're in, instead of only teaching them a few things as if the new nurse was hired to take their place.  I learned that if you don’t  simply take over the precepting individuals job, you will fail, be fired and lose any future opportunity to work at the facility ANYWHERE.  The doctors on the peds side LOVE TO TEACH and they are very good teachers.  You will learn more about medical conditions and procedures from them than you will from the nurses who are supposed to know the patient.
Management:
They only like you if they can use you as they intend to.  They are not really concerned with helping you progress if you don’t pick up extra shifts, or essentially brown nose them.
Workplace Culture:
The young nurses WILL NOT help you and would much prefer to see you sink, even if a patient is coding.  They will go into the break room and openly say “they can wait.”, which is why I am not surprised to see patients pass away at Methodist facilities.  Management wants you to find replacements for a shift if they “accidentally” schedule you even if you’ve requested time off months in advance.
Hardest part of the job:
Not wanting to end yourself at the end of the shift… not because of the work or the patients, but because of fellow nurses and the lack luster management who could care less if you are mentally okay (which is why at least one new nurse took their life shortly after starting to work at the facility)
Most enjoyable part of the job:
The patients and the doctors, they were always the highlight of my day.

Working here made me want to quit nursing.  I’ve taken a long break and I still love nursing but I would never recommend ANYONE start at this hospital, especially as a new grad, UNLESS you've already worked in the area you intended to start in.  They have very poor retention at this facility (I learned this from HR directly) and management doesn't really listen or care.  They will allow some individuals to start working on the floor even if they have no checked off on all of their 140-something preceptor tasks.

Its an ok place to work. The worst part was complaining to mgmt daily about the same issues that never get resolved. There is NO communication. The manager will literally lie to you/ omit information to use against you later. Do not trust her just because she is good looking. When you talk to the manager, she would act like an emotionless politician who spews out lip service everytime. She is basically part of the problem as well. 

Some of the people they hire within the dept have issues so bad that you ask yourself why did they ever hire this person if we can't communicate with them/ train them?... We think the manager most likely gets a bonus if she hires a more diversified crowd at the expense of other employees who actually have to work with them daily. A LOT of learned helplessness! Old school/ gender/ generational issues/ inequality/ double standards. 

The animosity amongst the coworkers is pathetic. Everyone there is basically a backstabber who plays games. You cannot trust anyone in the workplace there. People are only there for themselves and their paycheck, as they turn a blind eye to the alarming industry that everyone works for. The nursing staff loves to work against the EVS dept and act like theyre gods that we should bow down to but if you ever dare send a complaint to them they will have a cow and scream bloody murder. Some of the Dr's are the same exact way. 

There is no unity or fun work environment. Definitely no so called "culture". Unless you want to call not having a work culture a culture. 
They do an initial drug test and later force you against your will to take flu shots and other toxic vaccines. If you don't comply with things like that they will turn on you and treat you like an animal as they toss you out, after they tell you that you're family there. 
If you're going into this job because you want to help people, you will probably find out that this is not exactly all that it seems in terms of being able to directly help people due to all the red tape/ bs politics you get to deal with everyday. The CEO is a very nice fellow who doesn't act fake at all. Good luck!

This was one of the worst jobs I have ever had the misfortune to work. The management was very weak. There was a lot of favoritism going on with the Director and a select few employees. There were a few dedicated employees but the majority were not interested in working and would disappear or just not do any work while leaving their co-worker swamped. Two techs were having an affair and would leave the lab for hours while on the clock putting all of the workload on their co-workers. Security even caught these two techs in the parking lot in one of their cars having s-word. One person was still on the clock. These two were written up but never fired. Unbelievable!
The workload is horrendous. Techs are made to do the main percentage of specimen processing. The director even makes techs do histology so they don't have to hire a certified histology tech. Work flow was nonexistent. It was more chaotic than organized. The laboratory was never cleaned. The trash was pulled daily by EVS but that was all. If the director saw you were not busy she expected the techs to clean patient stickers off the floor with alcohol prep pads.
The techs doing the morning run are expected to do all specimen processing, run instruments, blood bank, urinalysis, chemistry, hematology, answer phones, and most importantly interpret results. Ridiculous!! Don't complain or they will turn on you and say you can't handle the job.
If you are not from Texas or are unwilling to conform to this chaotic workplace, move out of this state. Your life will be hard working at MHSO. They do not like outsiders and find any and every opportunity to criticize you personally and professionally.
The hospital requires you to buy certain color scrubs and also pay to have their logo embroidered on the scrub top. This is unheard of in any other state I have worked. Conform or be ridiculed.

I worked at 4 of the 5 Methodist hospitals in San Antonio as a resource RN and permanent staff at one. Overall the staff are great to work with. Not too much pettiness and telling on each other. I think this is because the RN’s at Methodist tend to be on the younger side 20’s and 30’s. It’s the older RN’s that cause the drama mainly.

They use Meditech for their charting which is ancient and redundant. It’s a DOS based system. You have to type in commands for shortcuts instead of a drop down menu like modern charting systems. The charting is very redundant. I’m currently using Epic at my current employer and can document everything in 20 minutes on all my patients. On Meditech it would take me 40 minutes to document everything for the same number of patients. 

From my experience Methodist cares about the bottom line first and foremost before staff and patient care. Many times the charge nurse has to take patients too. They will send nurses home if the ER is empty with only 4 hours left in the shift which I think is ridiculous. And then the rest of the nurses have to pick up an extra patient. Their staffing grid is horrible and needs to change to support the RN’s.

I’ve worked under some very political directors which brings down the morale of a unit. When a director is political it’s because they have ambitions to move up in the organization. They don’t care about the staff all they care about is numbers and looking good. But the staff is great for the most part and make work bearable and enjoyable. 

My job was enjoyable, busy, and interesting. I worked with some great people, and was able to share my knowledge and experience as well. The Methodist culture was great, but direct management did not follow those guidelines. The stress level was high due to the amount of project turnaround times and requests on a daily basis. I worked with some great people, we supported each other when help was needed. It is unfortunate to have great expectations for a company and job only to find later the unprofessional conduct from  Management, This also created trust issues and a hostile work environment among the work groups. Human Resources chose to look the other way even after numerous tenured employees all experienced the same treatment. It's a non win situation for anyone who does not fall under a specific manager's intimidation. I have seen employees treated in inexcusable and unprofessional ways. These people had no marks against them .There were incidents regarding employees using FMLA, management did everything including inventing issues to insure an employees termination. Some great people were effected by these practices. If someone is looking for employment besides this location, people would be happy working for Methodist Healthcare.

They really pinch a penny here and send you home early even if that means after 1st rounds (about 2 hrs). Half the people are great to work with & the other half well super new & just thrown in without proper training. This makes it hard because sometimes there’s 2 RT’s for the whole hospital & they make it harder for the experienced RT on purpose by expecting more work, more responsibilities etc without the extra pay. Management is pretty awful they care more about their end of year bonus & cutting costs than about you as a person. Stay away from Methodist in general is what I kept hearing but decided to try this place out regardless…. Can’t say any of the other nurses & RT’s were wrong about Methodist. And sad to say this small hospital was worse than big hospitals. Mainly because you get a full assignment plus deal w/all outpatient & inpatient diagnostics. That includes complete PFT’s which no one is certified for. We had such a busy shift and were short handed and 5 pfts printed that we were also responsible for. If you wanna apply here don’t. Run the opposite way. Especially if you don’t wanna deal with favoritism and toxic work environments.

I love being a registered nurse. I stand proudly wearing my nursing uniform. I love delivering care to the ill, and seeing the difference I make in their life and families' life.  I care for 5-6 patients on a medical/surgical unit three days out of the week. I work the 7pm-7am shift. I have definitely learned how to multi-task, while being safe. Time management was a challenge the first year, however I think I have it mastered. I work with awesome nurses. They are proactive and team players. My manager is God sent gift from heaven. She is very personable, and she really cares about the staff members. She is always looking for feedback on what she can do to make our jobs easier. She comes in early for both shifts to make sure we huddle before going out on the floor. My manager is truly a mom away from home; I love her dearly. The hardest part of my job is when a patient dies, and you know deep in your heart that the medical staff exhausted all means in trying to keep the patient alive. The second part of that is explaining to the family that their love one didn't make it. I know dying and death is a part of life, but it never gets easy for me. The most enjoyable part of my job is clocking out, going home, coming back the next night, and doing it all over again.

This is a very fast paced ER with high volume and not quite adequate capacity.  The staff here did a great job of doing quality patient care with what was available to them. I enjoyed the comradery with co-workers, the pace of this ER and the physicians I worked with. I learned a multitude of skills in this ER due to the location and acuity of the patients there. I learned how to care for some of the sickest population in this city.  We handled our share of traumas as well even though we are only a level four trauma rating.  It was not unusual to have gun shot wounds and stabbings walk in the door. The hardest part of my job is making the ER flow when the hospital is at capacity and there are multiple ICU holds in our ED.  I enjoyed teaching new nurses and being a resource for them.  My staff looked up to me and that gave me a great sense of pride and ownership in that unit. Management has changed the last year there.  I felt like there was a lack of concern for safety in the unit and an unwillingness to back the staff during stressful situations.  There was a feeling amongst staff that management did not appreciate them. New nurses felt a sense of betrayal at being put in situations they felt were out of their experience level.  All in all it was fun to work there.

I handle stress on the day to day job very well, it pushes me to be better.		 
•	Stress is very important to me. With stress, I do the best possible job. The appropriate way to deal with stress is to make sure I have the correct balance between good stress and bad stress. I need good stress to stay motivated and productive. 
•	I actually work better under pressure and I've found that I enjoy working in a challenging environment. 
•	I’m not easily stressed.  I know the importance of being flexible and am good at adapting to changing situations and shifting priorities.

I am motivated to do an excellent job in whatever I am doing.  I set a high level of professionalism in my work everyday to ensure that anything that I am part of is above the expected standards by management.  It is also a great way to show your talents and highlight talents of fellow coworkers.

Working as a nurse at Methodist Healthcare has been a rewarding experience overall. The organization places a strong emphasis on patient-centered care, and that commitment shows in the resources, training, and teamwork provided to staff. Leadership is supportive and approachable, and they encourage input from frontline staff, which makes you feel valued as part of the care team. Methodist also provides many opportunities for professional growth, from continuing education to advancement programs, which is a big plus for anyone looking to build their career in nursing.

The culture emphasizes teamwork, and I’ve found that colleagues are willing to step in and support each other during challenging shifts. Benefits and compensation are competitive, and the emphasis on work-life balance, while not perfect, is better than many other healthcare systems. Like any large hospital system, there are times when staffing shortages make workloads heavier, and the fast pace can be stressful, but management generally tries to address these issues.
