When nurse managers are promoted within the department, it allows for staff RNs- who worked closely with that nurse while in the staffing pool- to continue overly friendly behaviors with that manager. This is an issue especially for RNs new to the department/facility or those not included in that manager's circle of friends prior to the promotion. It is valuable to have a nurse manager who understands that particular department's challenges and strong points from the staff RN prospective. However, this understanding is offset by favoritism from the manager and lack of respect from the staff RNs. Due to the relationships formed between the manager and staff prior to the promotion of the manager (which was also prior to my arrival in the department), I found it difficult to assimilate into my new RN role, form new relationships among the departmental staff, and deal with variuos issues that commonly come up in the workplace. Since I am a nurse who has relocated several times in the past few years (due to my spouse's career advancement) this has been a problem noted in other organizations that also typically promote from within the department. Perhaps hiring managers from outside the organization, or at least outside of that particular branch of the organization, would provide for more equality in individual departments.

I enjoy working with Methodist.  It has flexibility for my home life 9of 10.  I consider it home away from home.  My typical day or should I say evenings and nights are most busy at the beginning of the shift. The beginning of shifts I make sure the assignments are made for the staff in a timely matter to relieve off going staff.  Then, I monitoring the patient's board for any deliveries and assigning those rooms quick as possible to allow receiving nurses to prepare for an admission to our floor. I clean up patient information boards for accuracy and update pertinent information as needed to communicate with staff when not communicated verbally.  Also, I round on patients for patient satisfaction and continuity of care.  Recover patient's complaints when necessary so that excellent care as well as is safety can be promoted.  I assess patients when necessary (the assigned nurse with another patient), therefore, preventing delay of care. I work on staff evaluations, peer reviews and other pertinent paperwork to keep the flow of are unit in optimal performance while promoting excellence to our patients of all cultures and background with a team of wonderful and professional staff and/or coworkers.  The most rewarding part of my job is feeling that I have provided our patients with the most appropriate resources for each individual need and a wonderful experience above their expectation in the hospital setting.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working under management that knows nothing about the clinical side of things, it’s extremely frustrating having to explain basic things to someone who is above you while trying to do your job taking care of patients. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Management is very out of touch with the clinical personnel and there is no help coming in sight and it’s been this way since I started three years ago!!  they continue to run off great workers and hire people who are incompetent just to fill a seat and that’s all they do is fill a seat literally 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I pride myself on arriving early for every shift and soon as I pull into the parking lot anxiety and stress floods my mind and soul of the day to come I’ve worked with some really great nurses as well as CNA’s and one excellent manager all who have been run off due to managements lack of leadership and competency I now do the workload of three to four people and it’s still not enough no raise no moving up the ladder just do more and more I’ve reached my breaking point and am currently looking for better options to try and keep my mental health and life moving in a positive direction

i worked here and it was a very stressful work enviroment the staff hired me and it seemed liked after i got the job they looked for a million reasons to fire me they blow situations out of proportion whenever there is a problem with a black employee they strive not to hire people from memphis because they say we have a different mentality most of their employees come from across the bridge Arkansas Mississippi and rural areas of Tennessee where they really dont have that many jobs such as a job like this so these people will do anything for your position they are mostly racist the caucasian employees dont speak to the black employees they treat them like suspects in a murder case watch your every move make false reports and try their best to get you fird because of the color of your skin this place was one of worst and most racist places i have ever worked ive never felt that type of pressure other than being pulled over by a racist cop thanks but no thank lebonheur safeto say ive started 2 businesses since then that have been successful im no longer a slave to your work enviroment and im glad i left place because i never woiuldve known my true potential i hope someone reads this and considers these words to be true because i have no reason to lie

I clock in  at 6:45 am and by 6:48, I have signed into my work station and have started my day on one of 5 work areas. Mondays & Wednesdays I work the front desk, checking in anywhere from 70 to 80 patients  (7 hour shift) as well as assisting in getting the patients to triage. I enjoy the daily contact due mostly to the sweet children and elderly patients that need that extra reassuring touch or smile.
 I work in our fast track area 2 days a week where patients are registered in, demographics and signatures obtained, insurance verified, patient is discharged within 45 minutes.
In the main ED, the focus is on team work. The nurses the physicians, the paramedics and the 6 registration associates, we work closely to ensure that every patient gets the best possible care with dignity and respect in a timely manner . 
Our supervisor works side by side with us during high peak time's. In my eyes that says it all about our management. 
Work is a new experience every single day that I look forward to.
I love the people that I work with. We make an incredible team. We work hard and get things accomplished. We do laugh often!

That I can always go to my leader when I have a problem. She will do her best to help me solve the problem.

Nothing at all, but I’ve had to learn a new computer program and that is a little stressful when entering clients data, knowing I have a time limit to do the job.

The work environment is very casual and involved. I love going to work everyday.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I start the day by getting to work at 7:30. I usually make 3 pots of coffee then go back to my office to start entering information that my nurses have gathered from their home visits. I do that all day with occasional breaks. Lunch and 15 minute breaks. When I finish entering the data I put the files back in the locked files in alphabetical order and I then go home which is at 6:00pm.

A typical day at work for me is talking to patient parents setting appointments. Ensuring parents that are choosing the right place of care to bring their children. Making parents feel comfortable and doing all I can to help with bringing a smile to patients and parents. I have learned that doing just a little more than is required can go a long way even when its not required. Helping others always makes me feel great not only in the inside but as a person that takes confidence and proud in my job. I enjoy working with co workers because I feel that developing a team with teamwork helps develops better productivity. The hardest part of my job is seeing parents when there children are sick and its nothing that the parent can do to help. The most enjoyable times is just simply getting a good laugh even while working.

when entering my work place I greet oncoming patients and co-workers with a smile and a good morning.  I start my day with a cup of Apple Cider Tea.
