You don't get paid enough for the work you do. You really don't. The only reason I stayed so long was because I got attached to the residents. Most of the staff were snobby towards newcomers and they had their "clicks". I've noticed that too many employees talked bad about not only their work mates, but the poor residents as well. We almost couldn't take a full break because we were understaffed and needed to answer pagers. There is a reason these jobs are always posted because these people aren't respected and the work load is insane. RAs shouldn't have to do it all. The kitchen staff should serve the food and help clean up. The RAs are already bathing some patients, wheeling them around, changing them, assisting with dressing, and cleaning their rooms too. On top of it, you want them to work as a waitress when they need to help the people back to their rooms when they are done plus the rest of their chores. I'm not saying what they do in the day is impossible, trust me, I done it, however, the pay is just simply so low for it all. Up the pay. They do more than any place I've worked for so little. 

I am a resident assistant. The environment at Riggs Manor is absolutely amazing. The variety of activities they provide for the residents as well as the ability to make your own schedule would make it an ideal job for anyone. Unfortunately, the management is very poor and inconsiderate. The have no regard for the employee needs and show little compassion for the needs of our residents. They have employees who do little to no work at all and dress very inappropriately. When we voice our opinions to Corporate, nothing seems to get done. This is suppose to be a retirement community/memory care. But they have people here who are better suited for a nursing home. (i.e. bedridden, dependent, cant provide any self care or assistance) They will sale you dreams when they hire you but do a little research first. Hopefully the pros out way the cons and good luck to whoever is reading this and seeking employment!

Working for a company that actually cares for its employees is such a great experience. More like family than a coworkers/bosses

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I am the director of my department, so I have a lot of responsibilities. A lot of people count on me to get the job done right and in a timely manner. Expectations are high. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Amazing… Family like atmosphere. Full of love and support. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
We meet in the mornings to see if any of the staff needs any assistance from other team members with their duties for the day. Then we start our day by completing work orders on a priority basis. Some work orders are as simple as assisting an elder hang a picture. Others may be a little more involved like renovating a vacant apartment. Our days are full of laughter with the residents and staff.

I’ve been working as an LPN at Martha Coker for going on 2 years. I’ve worked a variety of shifts, currently weekends. The job duties and expectations are pretty standard for the field and while there’s the occasional challenge, particularly if there’s a virus going around that requires extra precautions, but that’s the case in any inpatient facility. We place a special emphasis on making sure the elders feel at home and I believe it shows. It’s easy to work with other members of the care team to coordinate care. The Supervisors step in when needed or when any unexpected obstacles arise. There’s always someone on call when needed. I appreciate the understanding they give us parents when it comes to needing PTO. Almost everyone here has kids and understands the struggles and I’ve never had an issue requesting time off, even when it was at the last minute. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
I enjoy coming into the community each day and put smiles on my elders faces. Making sure they have everything they need and that they are happy. When I leave and the end of the day my is full because I know they are happy.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When I can’t redirect. That’s when I know something just isn’t right.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
In our community it’s a great . We’re always having a great time engaging and empowering our elders.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My favorite day of the week is Wednesday the elders enjoy  getting their hair done. Day of  or before I make sure all nails are done as well. They look forward to that.

At my facility, we have a 30 to 1 nursing ratio. The pay is much less than the local competition and the job duties for the LPN on day shift make it impossible to complete without staying late. The insurance is free for the employee, but it leaves much to be desired. Direct care employees such as LPN’s and CNA’s are not permitted to leave for lunch during a shift as, “meals are provided” but there’s usually not enough food to feed the elders and all direct care staff. I don’t eat unless I bring  it from home. It’s a lot of work and nurses don’t tend to stay long. 

Each day working here is fun and productive! You learn to have more patience, care, and understanding when it comes to the elderly. You experience great team work. The hardest part of your day may consist of how many times you'd have to explain simple things over and over to certain elders with a certain condition. The easiest and most enjoyable part of the job is knowing you made a  difference in that elder's life; knowing you were the reason they smiled and made it from moment to moment! Great place to work!!

NOT ENOUGH MONEY SO PEOPLE DON'T DO THERE  JOB EFFICIENTLY.

IT'S DIVERSED AND YOU GET TO MEET NEW PEOPLE ALONG WITH THE RESIDENTS.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
IT'S GREAT, JUST SEEING THE SMILE ON SOME OF THE RESIDENTS FACES IN AWWW TO SEE YOU.

Seems like a place that genuinely cares for their residents. Very friendly staff and a well kept facility. Never saw any issues that weren’t addressed quickly. Some residents have been there for many years. Administration has an open door. Best facility for the elderly that I’ve ever worked in. I think the greenhouse concept is the best way for a retired person to live as it still feels like living in a home versus a facility that feels so generic.

A typical day at work is filled with joy of talking to the Elders and making them feel at home. I have learned that the Green House Method is the best overall method for taking care of the elderly.  The culture here is extremely positive and helpful. The hardest part of the job is leaving to go home. The most enjoyable part of the job is the team that works here.
