Overall, Michigan Sugar was a good place to work as an early job. Local managers were very helpful in sharing of knowledge and helping to understand factory operations. Operators were very willing to discuss with me although I was management. 

Upper managers and corporate entities often were disconnected from the day-to-day factory work and often pushed and pulled based on personal convictions. Local management often urged otherwise, but threats and bullying created outcomes that frustrated operators and maintenance crews. 

Zero growth opportunities for young engineers outside of management. They struggle to keep supervisors and try filling it with whoever they have available. The expectations for supervisors are high. Acting as safety officers, process monitors, quality managers, time keepers, and serving union discipline while being paid about the same as those they are managing with exceedingly more responsibility. Most management worked closer to 60 hour work weeks, with some exceeding that, all without additional compensation. 

This company is a cesspool. Rife with favoritism, politics and lies. Was constantly made to feel like less of not just a worker but a human being during my time here. Management is nothing more than the big boys' club who follow or break the rules as they see fit and will only push people they like or see something they have to exploit. Once those in charge form an opinion of you, it sticks no matter how hard you work or how much you try to take the initiative. Union does nothing and monthly dues may as well be donations, most people appointed into positions of authority have no business being where they are. Fraternization is enabled and the people who point it out are ignored in favor of those guilty of such an act. Unlike a real job, benefits must be earned annually and there are constant hoops you must jump through to earn them. You are only allowed 2 emergency days a year and those are subtracted from your vacation days.

I'm only scratching the surface here but if you miss the drama and stupidity of high school and don't mind being treated like less than you're worth, apply today. For those currently working there, find the better you deserve and get out ASAP. This company is a disgrace.

A typical day doing sugar bench is very time consuming. You don’t have scheduled breaks, you have to make the time in order to get a break. Lab supervisor is no help to his employees, while other supervisors are great. A lot of the employees like to act as if they have such a hard job but they don’t, they act miserable but being general labor is easy. I’ve always kept a positive attitude while working and it puts everybody in a much better mood. Supervisors and regular coworkers really appreciated it. There are some people here stuck in there ways or slightly creepy. I’ve had some racial incidents and a creeper incident during my time here. I feel the company did not take my creeper incident to the extend they should have, which I was highly disappointed with.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I got paid every week. Worst part, don’t excel, don’t perform, don’t learn and let them know how well you learn and show skill. You’ll become a target of sabotage like I did. Make sure you record your work. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Stated before the lack of fairness, need more people  that consider safety first as the #1 priority. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Well worked outside for 8 years. Made it inside only lasted maybe 2 months before my work was being altered and tampered with. It’s a hit and miss culture. Need to walk with your head down if you don’t know anyone. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy and relaxed at times. The work isn’t hard but you need to be on your toes for sure!!!

The summer was busy getting the plants up and ready for the upcoming fall when the sugar beets started coming in.  The fall time, making sure the proper chemicals were brought in, supplies were in and everything was running smoothly as far as the purchasing dept goes.  I didn't work on the sales side.  As far as the people that worked in the office, we all got along very well.  The was not good at all.  I know since I left, they have been bought out by the farmers in a co-op, and moved to another building.  I don't know if that affected any of the benefits or salaries.  Overall is was a good place to work, but the pay if you were not in mgmt was not very good.

Terrible management, do not care about the employees just themselves. Union is useless . No medical benefits unless you hit your hours and management will make sure you don't hit them by laying you off so there will be no way possible to get them in. They have their favorites there and if you're not one of them they will make your life miserable.  Management is nothing g more than The Big Boy Club. I was so glad when I was able to quit and move on from that place but feel bad for what the current employees have to deal with.  Good pay but a terrible place to work,  The pay is the reason most are stuck working there

They will work you to the bone. Six days a week with no notice when you are in he orientation. Forget if you have other responsibilities because they don't care. All they care about is working you as much as possible. No flexibility at all. You got in think you will have at least two days off and they take that away. Being new no PTO and points add up quick because of it. Their hiring is a revolving door because of this. Always new people coming in and people being fired over the dumb stuff while others get away with everything and don't do any work. 

a typical day a work is very steady the trucks come through and we unload them and clean them, then we send them on their way so that they can return with another load.  i learned how to drive a forklift, how to get along with all sorts of good and bad people.  the management was good when i worked at Michigan sugar.  The hardest part of the job was standing for long periods of time and the cold, windy, and wet weather.  the most enjoyable part of the job was the fact that i was able to learn how to operate the machines.

If you want to be extremely lazy this is the place for you. Are you big? Like, really big? Perfect!! You can get the same pay rate as the skinny guy that will have to do your job for you (and his)! The workers are lazy, the bosses are really lazy, everyone's lazy and filled with complaints. Show a little work ethic/drive and you will be buried with work, because nobody else is going to help. The boss will sit in his car and pop out just long enough to tell you to go do other peoples jobs. This place is a real bummer. Good thing it is seasonal, or I would have quit before the end of the first week.

Set hours,paid weekly ,great benefits after you reach your probationary period.

Factory setting cannot be afraid to get a little dirt on your hands and be ready to work.

The hardest part for me there are jobs for everyone always I would say some jobs I could not do but they worked with me to help me find my place.  I came in with minimal training other than the basics but they have taught me a lot and showed me about their educational programs.
The most enjoyable part learning new skills.
