I worked on the production floor in a shipping and receiving role. Workload was extremely inconsistent in my area, but I was only 40 hrs most of the time. They like to buy steel from China that had to be unpacked and stunk like fish from the barges. It is nasty, dirty work. Very up and down with the production schedule, overtime one day, sending people home the next. I would never recommend someone take a slitter operator job with this company, or anywhere for that matter. It's dangerous, hot, cold, and dirty.

Average pay, good benefits but not enough to compensate for the dangerous and unsafe working environment. Equipment moving 50k lb coils is decades old and routine preventative maintenance is nearly nonexistent. Also, don't plan on advancing, even with a degree, if you hire into the production area. No raises in 2 years, they give you a monthly bonus that is good once in awhile.

Good company to work with with understands things come up and willing to work with their thier employees if need time off love working there 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
It can't get stressful if recieving gets alot of trucks coming in and try to keep line running  with coils they need just need to know how to get time to get extra stuff done really not to much stress for me

It is good good environment and good people to work with

I go in and do my job I  find time to get extra tasks done to make work safe and help others when they need it

Mill Steel company is a great place to work for the people and work life balance. If you are an intern or fresh out of college looking for a job then this is a good place to start with decent pay to start off. After being there for 2-3 years they won’t pay you much. Most people top out at 52k. Get your professional experience and leave for a place that will pay you your worth.  They love hiring interns and people fresh out of college so they can pay them the bare minimum. 

Only thing they had going for them was the work life balance (four days in office, two remote) but they are taking that away. Great people there, and most management is friendly and helpful. 

One of the worst managed companies I've ever worked for. The level of communication is a joke. Nobody is held accountable for anything when things are asked about. Good workers are very over used and prone to being burned out early on and expected to continue to perform while lazy workers are held to no standards at all and allowed to continue to do no work without consequences. Favoritism is very strong in the company. Management doesn't uphold to the things guaranteed in the interview or said in meetings after hired. 

If you're not in their clique.. you're being watched all the time.. never trust other employees, they are the ones that talk behind your back and convince management that you're not fit for the job. So much politics in this company, you have to cone to work every day fearing for your job. With that being said.. I wouldn't have been there a year. If you don't have a life, you definitely won't enough time to be with your family because you basically lives your life at work

Was a Setup/Helper on 76 and 74 slitter and advanced to Slitter Operator in Melvindale. Great wages, overtime opportunities always available, monthly bonuses for safety and performance. Safe and fast paced work environment with alot of team work. The Plant is clean and organized, manager/supervisors are knowlegable and always willing to help out.

A typical day at work involves constantly playing catch up. Doing numerous tasks that don’t involve your job.
Management was filled with nepotism, manager was rude and made you walk on egg shells. Expected you to be a mind reader. Hardest part of the job was learning on your own without direction and expected to succeed. Created a position then eliminated it a year later.

The  Money is great. Daily overtime.

VERY VERY VERY HOT. nothing else is a problem

Good environment people are great just hot

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Could be busy could be slow , sometimes you are overloaded. Sometimes you are sitting around

On a daily base i packaged steel coils and steel cylinders. weighting tons, i used a over head crane to unload the cylinders, and the other coils go on wooden skids then banded to the skid and place in the plant in a specific location that we scan in a location with a scan gun.

Rude, unprofessional,  untrained management. Inadequate training for new hires and management.  The plant manager literally tells people to "go work at wendys " in the morning meeting at least once a week. No respect for employees or their roles. Large presence of favoritism with plant manager and his close friends.
