It seems when US Oncology/MN Oncology wants to get rid of older employees or so called "problem employees" such as FMLA takers.The most common excuses they seem to use for getting rid of these employees was “job elimination.” However, that may have been just an excuse for what really looks like discrimination. The departments are not really eliminating the job, just changing the title and putting someone else or someone younger in their former positions. After years of great performance reviews, these employee's were getting reprimanded for things everyone does, or being nitpicked for things the company didn’t care about before, the company was gearing up for what I call the “suddenly stupid defense.” They were building a case to get rid of them for poor performance. It seems like one of the ways to force the employees out was to cut their job duties, limiting their authority and humiliating them with low-level tasks. Hoping they just quit in disgust. Towards the end they cut them out of meetings, excluding them from lunches, or sticking them in offices far from the action.

Almost the same scenarios for getting rid of their “problem employees.” When  Human Resources department and upper Management are presented with this "problem employee". They try to manage or eliminate the employee so they do not cause problems with coworkers, the Leadership, or the organization. They will investigate how much a problem this employee is. Maybe they will wait and see if diplomacy will work to fix the "errant employee". Ultimately, HR supports management's choices, If they cannot diplomatically solve the issue, they will make the employee's life difficult so they quit on their own because they do not want to pay unemployment or worker's compensation. Making there life difficult can take many forms from a bad performance review, putting them on a "Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) the. If the person is a true legal threat we may need to cut their losses and remove them immediately.

This location is an infusion center and specialty pharmacy. You rotate through the different positions weekly. For example, you work one week in the hazardous room and the next week you will be in the non-hazardous room. 
I learned a lot about admixing and felt that I was able to greatly improve my sterile compounding technique and understanding of the drugs.
Direct management is decent. Flexible with your schedule if you communicate what you need, preferably in advance. Amazing workplace culture at this site. I got along with every single one of my coworkers.
The hardest part is the workload. The current team works together to get things done but it can be very stressful. Every week you will make 40+ 5FU pumps for other Minnesota oncology locations. This is on top of your infusion schedule. 
In the specialty side, it is very meticulous. You have to look through patient charts to find information about dose changed or discontinuation orders. After doing so you must call the patient to schedule delivery or pickup. Then go back to their chart and put a note a “refill management” note in. You must fill the prescriptions that will be sent out via fedex/usps the day before you send it. Then process through the register, pack and label them for shipping. On a typical day there are 40 calls to make and the workload keeps increasing. They only have ONE technician dedicated to retail.  

The company is good overall.  

On the plus side, the corporate location (depending on the department) is able to choose hours and wear jeans every Friday.  There are very caring doctors, nurses and staff.  Management is very approachable and open to new ideas that provide a more efficient work process.  The benefits are really good and offer 401K employer matching. They have a fantastic presence in the community and provide a great support and great resources to local families touched by cancer through our volunteer events and the Angel Foundation.

On the negative side the customer service between the clinics and corporate, is terrible.  The PSR's are rude and the clinical staff rarely answer calls until multiple attempts have been made to reach them.  There is a lack of communication between clinics and corporate.  

As technology becomes more prominent, there is an increase of sitting for long hours looking at a computer screen .  Multiple people in several departments have complained of aches, pains and weight gain due to the lack of movement.  Breaks are provided but it is difficult to take them.

Insanely high turnover rate amongst all MA/CA roles. There's at least 1 person who quits every month at a clinic. HR is a complete joke, and should be seriously looked into or investigated. Favoritism is highly notable. Practice administrators are write up happy for minimal things or here say things. If you like micromanaging and enjoy people breathing down your back.. work here. But honestly there are so many more less depressing and better paying clinics. You constantly get more and more stuff added to your plate to the point where you're so overwhelmed.. and don't expect a raise because they cancelled them company wide! They added more management roles making for more micromanaging, employees don't help each other out and constantly talk about each other like it's high school. I can't wait to finally be able to quit. MA/CA's are looked down on and not respected or appreciated by HR or anyone in management. 

The nurses and staff at MN Oncology are fabulous and take GREAT care of the patients.  They are very knowledgeable and a great resource to patients.  
Management was terribly unsupportive in the locations I worked at and when this was brought to the attention of higher-ups (multiple times) there was no acknowledgement- therefore nothing changes.  I finally left when I realized I would not want to be a patient there, nor would I recommend family be treated with the doctors I worked with.  I couldn't work for a company I would not want to be a patient of myself.  

Some critiques are that the rules don't apply to everyone, they are only enforced on certain individuals. There's a hierarchy and if you're at the bottom of it there are MLS who will definitely treat you like it and let you know. Some of the techs do weird stuff like not helping certain phlebotomist draw blood even though that's part of their job. If you're a float, the other employees who aren't floats will not have your back only eachothers and they will throw you under the bus. But the pay is decent (however I've had better) and the benefits are great! If you get a job here just keep quiet, don't let them get to know you too much, and focus on the patients you will be fine. 

There were very few friendly and helpful people there when needed, but the work environment felt more serious and stressful. Everyone kept to themselves unless addressed. Felt like employees were chained to their desk and not allowed to converse unless work related questions or concerns. Ridiculous that remote positions ended so quickly, as there was very little reason to be working on site. Very unfriendly, unfair, strict, heartless supervisors. Cold and extremely serious workplace. Felt like you'd be docked pay for even smiling. 

I received great training from great employees.  The position I was hired for was something I was already familiar with so it was an easy transition.  But I did learn something new everyday.  Management there was great, they were always there to answer any questions or concerns.  All staff members and the work environment was great.  Everyone was helpful and dependable.  The hardest part of the job was making sure all payments were posted by the end of the month.  I enjoyed everyday that I was there.  My team was great!

This job was challenging both mentally and academically. The physicians and all staff worked well with balance of emotion and patient care. All staff respected one another at the Minneapolis office. 
I learned work-life balance. I was able to gain perspective through each patient's journey with cancer.  From lowest grades and stages to end-of-life, I was able to leave work daily with an appreciation for life.  The physician dedication to each of their patients was something hard to find throughout the healthcare field.

Management, more specifically practice administrator could definitely be approved upon. Say one thing, then go completely against it. More so focused on petty things vs employees they look over and the company overall. Love working with most staff there, most doctors were great. Just management that sucks- and they’re adding in more supervisor roles thus will make for a lot of micro managing I’ve already seen.
