What is the best part of working at the company?
The patients were nice. The staff all worked together to keep the facility clean and comfortable for the patients. They celebrated all the patients birthdays. Celebrations for each holiday. The facility was always decorated for the different holidays. The patients would get free tickets for various events around the city. They would sit in the gazebo in the garden and we'd all enjoy the barbeques. The garden was well kept and we'd watch the hummingbirds drink from fountain. The squirrels would run around and collect peanuts put out for them. It was just a warm and inviting atmosphere to be in.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There wasn't any stressful situations. Occassionally an emotional outburst from a resident, but that's to be expected  at any facility.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Different cultures and religious beliefs, but everyone got along for the most part.  Work environment was always busy in the mornings. Getting residents out to appointments, distributing meds, cleaning rooms, doing laundry, sweeping, mopping, cleaning restrooms, doing dishes, taking out trash. Doing paperwork and charting. The usual day to day operations.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I just answered that question before this one.

Having worked in several nonprofits, there is a clear understanding and even stereotypical how they work. Low wages for workers- very high wages for executive team. Run down offices that never seem to get better. Since SF is known to not really have aircon unless its a new building, the same applies there. When its cold, its very cold and when its hot, its very hot. Very poor working environment to be in.  I digress. The most shocking part of interning at this nonprofit is that there is very limited opportunities for folks to climb up, since budget is a huge topic there, despite ED making well over 140k and giving herself and others in her exec team a nice 40k bonus. That was the most eye opening experience for me, seeing folks that truly believe they are creating change, squander money. This nonprofit needs to unionize ASAP! Very fortunate to have not stayed.

I feel very accepted at my place of work. The pay is impeccable for what I'm doing. The benefits are there and it is a very relaxed environment and the staff is pretty easy-going. There isn't a lot of racism in the workplace and the management play fair. Also this is a non profit company, so your helping others.

I stayed for the purposeful work, and loved the members I worked with. But the contradictions of what the org claimed to be and the way the executive managed the org and treated its staff was too much to bear. This place needs a union. 

It's very hard to work with people who have no compassion or empathy. If only the staff could put themselves in the clients shoes for 30 Minutes, maybe they would understand how hard being in that path really is.

Workplace culture does not value you as an individual. Staff is disposable, you can go to work everyday not knowing when your last day is. Other companies offer better protections for workers.

Delores st community services provide care and special services to the public regarding housing and shelter placement and more, it's a growing family and everybody have to respect guidelines and rules to complete the program.

opportunity to give back to the community I grew up in. being able to help provide services to the less fortunate. went from a non-profit to  a corporation setting and feel.

This program is great, San Francisco needs more places like this one. I like the feeling of making a difference. The team effort is great, I can't say anything negative.
