What is the best part of working at the company?
There is not a best part of working for this company.  The pay is very low for the responsibility you have and if they don't like you then you will not receive raises nor will they let you take a different position in the company.  The management are very biased if they don't like you personally and it is a horrible place to work

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part of working for MODA is that they don't spend the money on upgrading their phone systems or technology so the members who pay good money to be insured by MODA has to sit on hold for extended periods of time before they speak to anyone.  The management is horrible.  They don't know what the employees should be doing.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is very stressful as they use outdated phone systems and technology.  The culture is : if they like you as a person and you will do things they ask you to do which you should not be doing you will be fine.  If not, they are constantly looking over your shoulder making you feel uncomfortable and tell you that you won't be getting any raises or allowed to accept any other position in the company.  You either stick it out and be miserable or you quit.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Arrive at 7am, have the manager look over my shoulder and listen to my conversations with members and critique me while I am on the phone with a member.  Lunch is 1/2, which is fine.  If you have to go to the bathroom during working hours you have to clock out that you are going to the bathroom and will be reprimanded on your review if they feel you go to the bathroom too much.

I have worked for Moda for 12 years.  It takes many years to get a decent pay.  The benefits are not bad.  They do Micromanaging for employees that are in Customer Service, Billing, and Individual Sales, and any department  on the phone.  You tend to be treated with less respect, if you are non exempt verses exempt.  I have worked both, Salary and hourly.  It can be a fun place to work, but if you rub management the wrong way for, any reason, you will be placed on a 30 day notice, with possible termination of employment. 

You do make nice friends and not so nice friends.  Just like any other company, there is favoritism and you can be pointed out quickly with no compassion for from management. Management does have their favorites.  It's best not to question any policy or procedure.  I spoke a second language there, and was never compensated for it.  No incentive whatsoever and was used as much as possible for that skill from all departments.

The most enjoyable part of the job was going home.  P.S. If you don't take exactly the two 15 minute breaks or the 30 minute to an hour lunch, you will be reprimanded; meaning don't go over a minute or two over the required 15 minute break or hour lunch, only if you are non exempt.  Exempt employees have it great there.  Just being honest.  They also only pay you for 37.5 hrs a week instead of 40 hrs a week.

The reason I stayed there so long was because I was an exempt employee and was not micromanaged, until, they changed my job to non-exempt.  that is when it turned not so good.

Company attempts to lead people to believe that it is representative of all peoples: this is not the case. Women will receive less money than their male coworkers and, despite performance reviews and near perfect scores, will never let a woman make more than a man of the same position.

In that vein, promotions are only for men. Women are expected to take on extra job tasks and responsibilities without compensation and are expected to not only go above and beyond, but must go even higher than that to be considered for even base level positions. Males in similar situations do not have to meet all requirements or do many years of additional work before consideration -- they can be promoted to higher positions within 6 months of being hired (I have never seen a woman get promoted, so cannot speak for how long it would take for them. I do personally know female employees here who have been trying to move up from their current positions for 9+ years before eventually having to quit and find other work).

Additionally, I have seen people get fired for things such as life threatening internal injuries requiring them to take time away from work for surgery and recovery. In other cases, people were fired for their children developing (exceptionally rare and horrible, actual disease name left out so as to not specifically pinpoint anyone) diseases which required both child and parent to be medically quarantined.

This is only the ice burg of issues within this company.

The people they hire are spectacular, but unfortunately they can't begin to hold a light to the talent they bring on.

A typical day would have started with reviewing my emails and voice messages to determine what the hot issues of the day would be.  I would answer member and agent emails after review the various issues that they were experiencing.  I would make contact with the Billing and Eligibility team to determine what caused the issue and how we could resolve it.  I would then follow up with the member and agent.  I answered incoming calls from members and agents and answered questions regarding benefits and membership status.  I ran  book of business reports for agent.  I assisted walk in members who either wanted to enroll or to have issues with claims and billing resolved.  I wrote procedures for the department and trained new employees.  

I also, on occasion, manned the Moda Health table at various health fairs and manned the Moda Health table at the Moda Center during Blazer Games. I represented Moda Health at large employer group benefit fairs and presented Moda Health benefit changes to Public Employee Retirees during their open enrollment period.

I was a key member of the Sales team.  I enjoyed working for Moda and the Sales team and regretted having to leave them.  I had a good relationship with my supervisor and respected her for her dedication to our team.

Leadership has fallen off in the past two years. They seem to employ weaponized incompetence, gaslighting, and avoidance instead of facing any issues and taking accountability for mistakes they've made.  Blame was continuously placed on personnel who left the company years ago instead of implementing new plans to move forward. 

Specialist are expected to manage all of their scheduled tasks and create their own backups to schedule PTO.  Leadership will frequently take off Monday/Tuesday and work the weekends instead of with the team. 

Leadership lacked the interpersonal skills to deal with any differing personality types to their own. They were especially unaccommodating to anybody dealing with mental health issues/diagnosis or neurodivergence.  

The company as a whole is also willing to spend to increase their sales territory but are opposed to implementing more expansive versions of software that the bulk of the company uses. 

They will also ask temporary workers to work overtime during the holidays; but will not include them for the Holiday Party. Getting hired on as a temp is hit or miss; and depends on the team you are working for. 

Unless you are a huge customer service person that does not mind putting yourself into your work and giving 150% this may not be the job for you. I can see why they have high turn around. I was hired as a remote customer service representative and they are a massive call center. The volume of calls you answer in a day can be overwhelming and stressful. Management and supervisors are mostly there for you to help and support you, but they do expect a lot from each person in calling back members and providers and a lot of follow up calls that you have to find your own time for. the phones are mostly busy, but there is never any time set aside for call backs and follow ups and if you take too much time not answering incoming calls you get in trouble. For someone that does not mind working off the clock and being non stop busy, this is a good job. If you want to work remotely and think that this will be a good job for you to stay home with your kids, animals, etc you are wrong. While you are working the expectations are that you clock in and do not leave your desk unless you are on a break or lunch. There is no extra time for bathroom breaks or anyone dealing with anything else like medical conditions or kids. 

I was given a review. I was told I did very well.  Just one day before I finished my probation, I was told by HR that I was not meeting their expectations. I feel all along they were just trying to find someone to work temporary so I could not get benefits once I finished probation. On my last day, I was called down to HR. My box of personal items was given to me. I was then escorted out of the building.  I left records of my performance review at my desk. I also left one of my favorite mechanical pencils.  I was not allowed to go back to my desk to retrieve them. I would think twice before considering working there. I still believe there are  other good companies out there for people to work at. It is a challenge to find them though.

I work remote and it is a huge benefit of working for Moda, however, my complaints are with Moda's policies as a whole. I only get 15 days of PTO per calendar year, and that includes sick time. There are very few holidays we get off compared to other agencies and companies. The pay is simply ok, but could stand for an overhaul to meet market value of licensed clinicians. I must emphasize how abysmal the medical and dental benefits are here. The deductibles might be low, but the coinsurance is simply not affordable. You are strongly discouraged from taking unpaid time off, despite the fact that you are given a profoundly poor amount of PTO. I absolutely feel insignificant here, and that my job is expendable. I don't feel that executive administration cares for anyone working beneath them. I could see myself working here for the duration of my professional career if they would just give us more PTO and better healthcare benefits, which is laughable, since this is a medical insurance company.

Process enrollments, terminations, plan changes, reconcile payments, respond to emails/calls, and attend meetings.

Moda is a good place to get your foot in the door. Some departments provide room for advancement, but others, not so much. This position is helpful for those just learning about the insurance field.

The leadership team in Membership Accounting have their favorites, and it's near impossible to get promoted. Leads and supervisors are also not well educated, and often give mixed information to employees.

Employees are definitely not paid enough for all the work they put forth, and workload is not balanced across teams.

The most challenging part of the position is getting mixed answers from the leadership team, and having to provide that information to members (whether correct or incorrect).

The best part of the job is 37.5 hours a week, flex time, early Fridays, and PTO.

A typical day at work is get up, get some caffeine, go to your desk and work.
I learned that they only train for 5 days and you have to learn very quickly on your own. You can't talk to your co-workers. There is no interaction with your team members. Maybe a few people, but for the most part you can't joke around, send messages or eat lunch together. There is a black hole void. 
There is no in person training. 
Management doesn't listen, piles on the work, you get overwhelmed and pray you can catch up. But you can't because the work keeps coming. 
Moda Health grew too big too fast and they hire temporary employees to pull the weight and fire them when they can't perform like someone who's been there 3+ years. 
Hardest part of the job is teaching yourself the job and working overtime all of the time when it was supposed to be 37.5 hours per week. 
Nothing really enjoyable except the providers office thanking me for my help.
