Only settle for a FT position. If you are a contractor then you will be left in the dust. For example, a contract will get extended 3-4 times before they decide to terminate you or hire you. Just beware, they won’t let you know if your contract is getting terminated, they’ll have your agency reach out same day they make their decision. 

I’ve learned a lot of things at Moderna. It will definitely benefit me later on down the road with new/similar position. But I would never go back, even if they offered a hefty increase. Just not worth the mental burden it puts on you. 

Management picks favorites. They are only willing to work with you if you suck up, so if you brown-nose; you’ll fit right in. They love passing off projects and waving “promotions” in your face to make you think doing that project will help your chances, that’s not the case. 

Moderna used to be very enjoyable. The work, culture, and environment. Recently, a lot has changed, and not for the better. Some people are very judgmental, some will “people watch” and make inappropriate remarks. It’s not the welcoming place like it used to be. 

The micromanaging, not only from your direct report, but from your peer(s) as well. They’ll report on everything you do. The managers will have employees keep tabs on one another, kinda like babysitting. 

The benefits are great though. 

I really enjoy working at Moderna.  If you’re a people person, the culture is amazing and the work environment is fun.  There is a lot of potential in this company and room to grow in your career and life.

The best part of the job are the people and the pay.  The worst parts of the job are that things are changing on a monthly basis and you’re forced to adapt to new arbitrary standards and people that have an overall bad work ethic/a bone to pick with everyone.  Also the cafeteria is very sub par, but workers get a stipend so it’s essentially free food so you can’t complain that much.

Management can be a little biased towards certain people, but ultimately it seems to come down to attitude and total effort.  If you do your job and can hold a normal conversation most of management will find a way to like you and help you where you need it.

Moderna is actively trying to build its product line and therefore this place isn’t perfect by any means.  There are often many changes that happen month to month but if you can adapt, put your head down and complete your work they pay really well, offer great benefits, and the job has a lot of perks.  

Not recommend any people who seek for development in their mid career to come here. The management foster a culture of staying flat and lean, which means you are less likely to get promoted and lead a team who directly report to you. They have a program which people could be the team lead, who would manage a team to advance projects. But all those people don’t directly report to you. You get 0 credits for doing extra. No extra compensation or faster promotion track. Essential you are doing the job for your managers because of their limited bandwidth but get no recognition in report structure. This is detrimental in mid career because most of the positions will have a couple of direct report in any other companies. But you get none even you did the management duties. They did this to save money with less layers and also cripple your career development so you could stay.

I would not recommend anyone in their mid career to come here. They treat you like a tool to advance projects but not a human being to grow and learn together.

This company has potential to be a great force for pharma needs but it is run by ill equipped people without the proper experience to lead properly. They have standard operating procedures that don’t get followed regularly, all it takes is a meeting to occur for the entire plan to deviate and the techs are put at risk daily. The quality of the product is questionable due these constant changes and lack of accountability. Coming from a more established company I had a certain expectation for how the process of vaccine production is run and regulated but at Moderna that is not priority. Image is more important that the safety of the patients they service.

Upper management sets arbitrary deadlines that will be met at any cost, regardless of whether or not what is delivered will actually work or meet the need.  They work the project backwards by deciding when it should be due and then proceeding to figure out how to cram it in the allotted time, at the sacrifice of your personal time and life.  They will tout moving at Moderna speed as a positive thing when in reality, it's a huge drawback.  It's a fancy way of saying speed matters more than good quality solutions.  This creates an incredibly frustrating environment that is burning people out quite efficiently

I worked at Moderna in 2019 through "Opsource" temp agency, I was there for onlyba coupleof months, but unfortunately, I was hit with some medical issues which I had to attend to, which in affect cut my tenure short there. I really enjoyed working at Moderna, working as a team, but most of all I miss my job as Machine Operator. Managment was great, just do your job and everything is fine. I felt I had a god report with my team, managment and felt if I did have a problem I could easily navigate the proper channels to a positive resolution. The climate is Hot in the summer and colder in the winter, if I had the opportunity to return, now that my health is better, Id be back to work tonight. I really loved my job.

At Moderna everything was a challenge, they don't understand my technical things that needed attention. Even after presenting detailed reports to follow path A they always opted for path B. Working in an environment where saying the truth could get you in big trouble is frustrating. I was able to play their game but in the end, the results that I wanted to provide were not there because of their hidden agenda. I felt like someone inside wanted to sabotage the organization. The principal of Moderna is awesome, but the leadership team didn't transmit clarity. 

The possibilities for Moderna's technology to make a difference in human health is what drives most people who work here. It's one of these high risk/high reward situations that brings passionate people out of the woodwork.

Now that things are matured, some of the early craziness has calmed down and the work-life balance has become very reasonable. Although we're no longer a "start-up" according to our age and head-count, we still get catered lunches and new and exciting data frequently.

A devils contract. Sell your soul for lots of perks, but the leadership, dynamics, and culture is terrible. Leadership states they allow teams to operate, but it is VERY top-down management.

If you are a woman of color. Forget about it. You are told that inclusion and diversity are top priority, but that is not true. You will be overly scrutinized and if you make any mistake no matter how minor you will be put under the microscope and termination is imminent. Directors and associate directors are not line managers and they suck at the task. They have no clue how to guide people. If you want a life this is not the place. they expect everyone to work 12 plus hours days no matter your role and if you don't you will be canned.
